Inappropriate
It appears Mike Klander, the Executive Vice-President of the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario), is it a bit of hot water these days.
Check out Stephen Taylor’s Blog for the info.
And there’s no shortage of negative reaction. Just ask Paul Wells or check out Views from the Left and Red Tory.

Like I keep reminding folks, the dirt on the Liberals keeps on pouring in each day, adding to the existing mountain range of scandals and everything else.
Considering this, can anyone with common sense bring oneself to vote Liberal again, if they have previously?
Related,
This is interesting:
“Following up on questions raised last week about a $475 Million contract awarded to AIM PowerGen, a company headed by top Liberal insider Mike Crawley, it was revealed today by Interim Leader of the Opposition, Bob Runciman, that Mr. Crawley promoted a $5,000-a-head fundraiser for the Minister of Energy during the Request For Proposal (RFP) bid process.
“Premier McGuinty handed a guaranteed, 20-year contract worth $66,000-a-day to a top Liberal insider, and claims that all was above board,” said Runciman. “The RFP rules are clear in stating bidders are prohibited from speaking to Ministers about their bid. Yet Mr. Crawley promoted a fundraiser for McGuinty’s Minister of Energy just days before the RFP closed.”

My my.
If Mr. Klander is stepping down as Vice-President on the Management Committee for the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario )maybe he can take the position of Vice President of Policy (since that position is noted as VACANT on the party website ). I wonder why it’s vacant?
I must be suffering the after effects of too much eggnogg but could some please explain to me why comparing Olivia Chow to a dog is racist? Insulting perhaps, but racist?
“And over at the CBC roundtable Ms. Abramovitch has invited MWW to the party.”
That bit has now been edited out.
I’m almost impressed (note -almost), that CTV has the CP article online. Not only is he identified as a high ranking member, but a pivotal position in Ontario. The article goes beyond the insult to Chow, complete with the references about Jaffer, etc. from Klander’s Top Ten list of things he would hate about the election. Thank goodness for blogs, because otherwise this would not be brought to light, considering that some of the entries were from back in November.
I love it! I just saw on CTV NewsNet coverage of the Klanders/Chow affair, including a display of the offensive post. Score another victory for the bloggers! I used to be completely skeptical about the influence of blogs, but wow have I ever become a convert in the last week!
S
the poster boy of liberalism just resigned according to Pravda.
Why don’t we start calling him “KluKluxKlander”?
YES!!! I just saw it too!!!On CTV!I LOVE IT!!!

Alf
Bear asked: “could some please explain to me why comparing Olivia Chow to a dog is racist? Insulting perhaps, but racist?”
I’ve seen dozens of these “separated at birth” items, and some of them do compare people to animals. In each instance, it’s because there is actually something in the photo that made a person, for that instant, look like a bulldog or whatever. Had that been the case here – had there been the slightest resemblance between the two pictures, I don’t think it would have qualified as more than bad taste.
There were two elements that make me comfortable to say that there was a racist element to Klander’s blogs. One was the play on words, mocking Ms. Chow’s Chinese name. It smacks too much of those who would call Asian women named Ho as – well, you can guess, I’m sure.
More compelling was his use of the term “the ethnic Rahim Jaffer” to refer to one of the Members of Parliament. As Parizeau demonstrated, there is only one reason to use the term “the ethnic”, and that is to single them out for no other reason than the fact that they look different from those who are in the majority.
I don’t know this guy, and I suspect his friends would say he’s not a racist – he just plays one on the Internet.
Is this true? I’m confused, I thought this was brought up as a response to a question from the media. can someone clarify for me?
from CTV:
“With the election buses barely heated up, Harper opened the election campaign Nov. 29 by vowing a Conservative government would allow a free vote in the Commons on restoring the traditional definition of marriage.
The statement, offered without provocation or prodding from the media…”

The entire business reeks of “Dirty Tricks”. Klander posts daily for weeks. For his friends? From vanity? For others to discover during an election? Some journo makes a discovery, hints broadly, & bloggers pile on? But not left bloggers? Was this a setup from the Librano$$$$$? Why? Who? Can Kinsella help? >>>>

This story broke wide open in the MSM in the last 24 hrs. courtesy of Bourque posting Steve’s link. The Ottawa citizen ran it and I’m listening to the Lowel Green show right now where it is the lead item.
Yaaaaaa us.. latest score on Liberal sleaze: Blogosphere 3 Libs 0 MSM 1
how many attacks like this must we put up with, “beer & popcorn”, “alberta can kiss my behind” “duceppe,Harper plotting At a jewish memorial service” & now this. The liberals have been in power too long, they feel entitled too make these comments. Long as voters continue to support these actions we will never rid ourselves of them. Iam not an NDP’r but there is no place for racist comments such as those. I have stated before that Canadian’s gave there lives in many war’s against tyranny & racism. We are seeing the true color’s coming out of this party, 2004 labeling Harper as a war monger racist. when in truth it is them, We are seeing that the liberals owe 34million VS DEBT FREE. They are pulling out every dirty trick possible in order to keep us from seeing the books. They have leaked finacial info to the point that there maybe insider trading, they have made appointments that have caused havoc in canadian institutions. The Auditor General is prevented from looking at certain books, why?. A Pm that can’t even register his own ships or build new ones in Canada & finaly ADSCAM we now know that they are so far in debt that they had to steal the money from somewhere. Wake up before its too late.
Liberal spinner Stephen Heckbert has just qualified for the next Olympic Games, in gymnastics. He’s really jumping through hoops on this story.
First, he told Canadian Press that, while Klander’s comments were “outside the bounds of good taste”. He goes on to say “This is something the Liberal Party of Canada doesn’t condone.”
Before he got through the CP interview, Heckbert was backpedalling. He told the reporter that although Klander’s comments were regretful, it’s not uncommon for political blogs of all stripes to cross certain boundaries. “Partisan blogs get a little heated, particularly around election time,” he said. “You’d see some language that might curl your hair.” Klander was just trying to fit in, apparently.
By the time Heckbert was interviewed by Canwest Global, he was already preparing for Klander’s rehabilitation. First, he apologized on behalf of the party “if anyone was offended by it”. (The party apologizes for the actions of a mere volunteer? And there is doubt in his mind as to whether anyone was offended?)
He then “praised Klander for having ‘a history of being a strong Liberal and someone who has worked for diversity.’ I guess that’s why Klander refers to a person from a visible minority as “the ethnic Rahim Jaffer”. Why, I’ll bet some of his best friends are ethnics.
Then, in today’s Globe and Mail article,
Heckbert said this about Klander:
“Mike has been a long-time Liberal and holds the Liberal values of diversity and tolerance and inclusiveness….” Shattering the record for the fastest rehabilitation of pond scum in history.
So the next time you hear the Prime Minister emote about Liberal values, you know what he’s talking about.

Commentary
I was asked at a discussion on blogging whether an anonymous writer could compete with an established expert. My reply was that an anonymous author had the advantage of never being able to never argue from authority. The sole force of his argument came from the proposition ‘does it follow?’. Yet that was not wholly accurate and I knew it: people liked to know who you were and to trust you, even though you did not want to be trusted. I added, “when you are read by ten people a day you can say what you please, and no one, not even yourself, will care; but when you are read by ten thousand a day, everything changes and people — you — start to care”. Punditry is one of those strange activities where for the good of your character it is best not to be too successful. One hope is the Internet, by spreading out readership among different sites will make it hard for dominant voices to arise. While human nature may not change, relative temptations might. Howard Kurtz described in the Washington Post how a Cato Institute scholar was accused of accepting $2,000 for every favorable editorial column he wrote. Which is sad: no one’s opinion, except a doctor’s or some similar specialist — should be worth $2,000 — and even then you should always ask: ‘does it follow?’.>>

Klander is actually not the first top Liberal to make derogatory and racist comments this year.
Last spring, it was Mr. Alcock who had his contribution.

This is not just a stupid mistake, but a race discrimination. Mr. Klander commits the Canadian law.
