Christmas Day Reader Tips

And still, 187 people checked in here in the last hour.
Though admittedly, I popped out to do a small hand lettering job this afternoon, so who am I to question how people choose to spend Christmas day?
So, if you’re all truly that bored or just wearing off the turkey, and you find something good out there while surfing that you think others might enjoy, drop a link in the comments.
Update – Ask, and ye shall receive… this is a good one. Move over, beer and popcorn – meet “Olivia Chow Chow”. (screenshot)
Stephen Taylor has lots, lots more.

  1. Paul Wells has got one that’s going to leave a very ugly mark on the Liberals.
Mike Klander, a senior Liberal exectuive, compared Jack Layton’s wife, Olivia Chow, to a dog.
Move over beer and popcorn. Welcome to the most offensive thing said or done in this campaign.
Slagging a leader’s wife (even if she is a candidate)?!?!?!?

  3. Klander’s cite reveals the true ugly face of PMPM’s Liberals. These maliscious Liberal attacks say much more about the Liberals than about their intended targets.

  4. Just to be certain that Don Newman of the CBC’s Politics saw the article, I copied it and sent it to ‘politics@cbc.ca’. No excuse for ignorance, especially if 8 or 10 others do the same.

  5. I wonder if its going too get any worse. Its about as low as you can go…whats next! attacks on children of those who are running?

  6. Although I can’t stand her politics, I’ve always thought Olivia Chow to be a rather attractive lady.
(Just sitting here with one of those silly Christmas cracker hats on, trying to digest the turkey and wondering how I’m going to make it through dessert and tea).

  7. I found in my files a copy of the March 2005 CPC Policy Declaration which may or may not be the currently-operational document for the CPC crew.
It probably is because, in reading it, I couldn’t think of anything announced or said to date by Harper that would contradict it. It is also clear, coherent, and actionable.
So if you want some light reading, mosey over to:
    http://www.thiscanada.com/2005/12/25/harpers-platform-for-canada/
The .pdf is available off my site, and also the Fraser Institute report referenced in the article. Save/download both, if you want.
The CPC platform is no longer available off the CPC site, as far as I know.

  8. Let’s face it ma’am, you’ve got one of the best blogs in Canada and there’s an awful lot of us out here who jump on the internet like people turn on the radio or the TV in their homes. So let’s also face it, you’ve got a large following and you’ve got to work hard to keep us informed and entertained. Where the hell are we, in the commie Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or Kuba or something? You have the right, nay, almost the obligation, to carefully market some space for some select, tasteful, advertising, repugnant though that may sound. That’s where the financial compensation is on the internets, it’s my understanding that the insane Google share price is based on little more than advertising revenue (something I still have a hard time believing – who cares if advertising executives stole a little directly from the government, sounds like they’ve got their hands pretty deep in our pockets already, every time we buy an advertised product). But I do ramble on…

  9. Kashechewan residents boiling water
    By TARA BRAUTIGAM
Cedric Hughie, 3, walks past a water jug in his home on the Kashechewan native reserve in northern Ontario, Oct. 28, 2005. (CP/Jonathan Hayward)
(CP) – For the roughly 1,900 residents of a remote northern Ontario reserve, the only gift they wanted for Christmas was fresh drinking water.
But the people of Kashechewan First Nation remained under a Health Canada boil water advisory Sunday, two months after more than half of the community’s population was evacuated because E. coli was found in their water supply.
“I had hoped that it would be resolved before the community came back, but the people wanted to be home for Christmas,” said Deputy Chief Rebecca Friday in a phone interview. “The community is a family itself, so it’s really good to have them back together again.”
Nearly all of the 1,000 residents who were airlifted out in late October and early November have returned to their homes, except for about 30 people in Sudbury, Ont., whose houses, some of which have doors hanging from their hinges, are dangerously dilapidated.
“They should be home as soon as their homes are renovated,” Friday said >>>

Christmas message from Indian Affairs minister Andy Scott’s website: Sweetwater/Boil Water Martin is not mentioned>>>
The holiday season is traditionally a time to reflect on our blessings, past year’s events and accomplishments. It is also a time to look forward to the new opportunities that await us in the coming year.
It is always heart warming to see citizens reach out with great generosity to those who are less fortunate. That is what makes this time of year so special.
On behalf of my wife Denise, sons Nathan and Nicholas, I want to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
May 2006 be a year of peace, health and joy for you and your loved ones.

  10. I sent an email to Paul (nice to see people like him are on the ball at Maclean’s).
He ended his story Scary” with the comment, “God bless us, everyone.” I tend to think it should have read “God SAVE us, everyone.” Come the 23rd January, and the likes of Mike Klander and his ilk find their way to power again, then some of us will be on our friggen knees! And I am an atheist too boot.
It’s not a question of whether it’s bad sport to go negative. Gloves off, boots on. Time to step it up now!

  11. Do you want to know something very interesting, that I discovered?
From his archives, May 20, 2005.
There’s an image in the post titled:

Look at that image. Seems familiar? I think I saw it on the news yesterday.
Guess what the body of the post in his archives says:

    Bed Buddies?
    More than just friends?
Yes indeed, politics does make for strange bedfellows…but is there more to it?
I would bet that his wife couldn’t make his eyes roll back into his head like that.

Ding dong the wicked witch is Dead (or We WON!!!!)
As you may have guessed, we beat Olivia Chow. Hehe.
The election is over and boy am I tired. I have plans for a few good posts but I am just too damn tired to do it now. A few highlights:
-Spending the night with Tricia Edgar and Catherine Kunz at Kinkos… sounds kinky.. hmm kinky Kinkos… boy I am really tired because I found that really really funny.
    -beating Chow >>>>>>
    Sites I check everyday.

  13. Thanks for the link, Mark. Everyone here should follow it and see for yourselves what a disgusting pig this guy is. Was he trying to be funny? I doubt it. Clearly pathological.

  14. I’m posting this information on every newsgroup and emailing every media outlet can think of. This is excellent ammo for the Conservatives to utilize – its not slander, its absolute truth and a glimpse into the true nature of the Liberal garty. And just think, this degree of indignation from a card-carrying Liberal member. The infallable voice of irrefutable reason wins yet again.

  15. Here’s something funny, a Liberal lecturing in ethics
    http://bcinto.blogspot.com/2005/12/sign-sign-where-are-frickin-signs.html
Sign, sign, where are the frickin signs?
Im home for the holidays on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The snow of Toronto has been replaced with rain and wind, but at least its a little warmer. What is missing on the Left Coast landscape however is any Liberal campaign signs.

Ive seen signs, both lawn and large, for the Conservatives, the NDP and even the Green Party, but nary a Liberal sign is up yet in my old riding. Im told this isnt confined to this riding though, in the Lower Mainland (where were actually competitive) and across the province it seems the brain trust have decided not to put up any signs until after Christmas.
Genius, pure genius. Makes us look amateur, like we cant afford signs or think we dont have a chance and arent bothering. The kids really do need some adult supervision, I think.
On another note, the local Conservative incumbent, John Duncan, sent out a mailer yesterday, courtesy the taxpayers of Canada. First week or two of the campaign I could let that go, but this is a little too late for these to be going out on our dime. He narrowly squeaked back in last year, trailing the NDP candidate until the military vote came in. When youre fighting for you life though, ethics seems to go out the window, doesnt they John?
He’s right about one thing, the Liberals have absolutley zero presence in BC right now. The only signs I’ve seen are David Emerson’s, and very few of those.

  16. Haw! Ethics went out the window in this country over thirty years ago, when Cruton and his criminal friends showed up in Ottawa.

  17. More than you’ll ever want to know about Mike Klander:
    His Liberal Party bio:
    http://www.lpco.ca/images/doc/KlanderProfile.pdf
He was elected by acclamation, BTW.
His December archived pages (from Google’s cache), in which he targets Ms. Chow:

His November archived pages, in which he proves himself to be both a misogynist (quote: the sexy Rona Ambrose) and a bigot (“the ethnic Rahim Jaffer”):

His July archived pages, where he pokes fun at Chretien’s facial features, and has a distinctly anti-gay approach to his humour:

His April archived pages, in which he lays out the Liberal strategy for putting off an election, in the hope of getting Canadians bored about Gomery:

Mike Klander learning his approach to politics at Liberal University (no, really!):
    http://www.gazette.uwo.ca/1999/September/28/News8.htm
Here is a list of his clients (from his website http://www.klander.ca/):
    Imperial Tobacco Canada
    *Research In Motion
    *Lakeport Brewing
    Inco Ltd.
    BFI Canada
    Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association
    *Air Canada Pilots Association
    *International Union of Operating Engineers
    Greater Toronto HomebuildersAssociation
Those that don’t have an asterisk in front of their names are those whom he hasn’t registered as a lobbyist with the Government of Canada. (see https://strategis.ic.gc.ca/app/ec/lrrs/search.do;jsessionid=00007jcIsbvK4-6mscdIdF3fHqh:vdd1k0er)
His bio from his own website (http://www.mikeklander.com/about.html) says about him:
    It says, in part:
“As a senior political organizer Mike played a significant role in building Paul Martins Leadership organization in Ontario. Prior to joining Martins team, Mike helped build a national organization for Brian Tobin and also served as his Campaign Manager in Ontario. As Executive Director of the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) Mike was responsible for managing the day to day affairs of the Federal Liberal Party in Ontario. In that capacity he served as Ontario Campaign Director during the 2000 Federal Election Campaign. In his eight years with the organization he held several other positions including Field Organizer, and Director of Field Operations.”
THIS is the kind of guy they have running their Ontario campaign? They have no shame.

  18. Yeah, getting more patholgical all the time as I read the new links to his posts (thanks guys!). In fact that will be his/their defence. I predict a coming news brief… Mike Klander resigned today due to mental illness… Liberals complain heartless conservatives for slagging someone who’s cleary not well/handicapped/disabled etc. Sheesh. Just watch it. It’ll happen. Make the acid test to be which media outlet reports it as such. God save us.

  19. Bigger than Beer and Popcorn

Senior Liberal advisor Mike Klander wrote on a now defunct blog 10 things that make him sick. Number 10 was the wife of Jack Layton, Olivia Chow. He then goes on to compare her to a dog as seen in this screenshot:
    With your everyday regular blogger…

  20. Klander’s apology.. “I only intended these insulting and disgusting remarks for my close and personal friends.”
I’m surprised this idiot has friends.
    My Blog
22 Dec 2005 by Mike Klander
It would appear that more people viewed my blog than the small circle of friends it was intented for. I apologize if anyone was offended by my comments…they were meant to be in jest. Anyway, I have removed my previous posts and will …
You can find a short summary of his post here:
    http://search.blogger.com/?ui=blg&q=blogurl%3Ahttp://klander.blogspot.com/&scoring=d
I wonder if Klander is the one who posted the Harper/Duceppe photo to the Liberal intranet?

  21. “I only intended these insulting and disgusting remarks for my close and personal friends.” Which is why they were posted on the internet and not emailed? Idiot.

  22. I suspect Jack will go ballistic when his holiday hiatus ends. The only reason crap has yet to hit the fan is because of the day. It will, though. This is far too damaging for anyone with credibility to let go of.
But this is Canadian politics and the media. It won’t happen, but I have a new Christmas wish. I just want Jack to challenge this guy to a fist fight. Would you want someone talking about your wife like that?

  23. I wouldn’t ask this idiot to step outside: I’d drag him out by his hair, jersey him, and then go to work.
As a favour to Jack and to teach these creeps a lesson, please forward this to all appropriate sources and stay on it hard. This can be parlayed into massive Lib destruction in TO. That the key race in TO is being run by a mean and bigotted POS without any manners, ethics, or dignity like this individual is not going to go over well with key swing voters or with major elements of the Liberal base. Take advantage while we can.

  24. IMPORTANT UPDATE:
I emailed the Toronto Star, National Post, Globe & Mail and CTV with this story.
I ALSO posted on CTV’s forums, under “Question Period.” I check a few hours, and lo and behold, THEY DELETED MY POST.
I am absolutely astonished at the lengths that these bloody liberal media outlets will go to protect anything from getting out. Absolutely unbelievable. Any suggestions on what can be done?Just plain unbelievable.
    S.

  25. It may have been a Star reporter that dug up the dirt on Klander, but it hasn’t gone to any sort of press as far as I know… we’d have much more buzz about it on other mainstream venues if the “venerable” Star had picked it up.
    S

  26. I think instead of the MSM and Conservative sites we should be sending this story to every leftwing site we can find.
Those sitting on the fence between voting for the Liberals or the NDP and those who would forsake their party to keep the scary Conservatives from forming a government might change their minds.
In truth this is scary stuff. If he only meant this crap to be seen by a few friends, one has to ask who these friends are. Is Paul Martin one of them? Is the Liberal caucus in this circle of friends? Is this how they really think when out of the media spotlight? Do they really think that being gay is something to be made fun of? Does he mean that Olivia Chow {in my opinion a very lovely looking lady) being compared to a dog or does he mean Chinese people as a race are dogs?
Hidden agenda indeed. If I were MS. Chow I would be consulting an attorney and the human rights commission.

  27. Seems the media are turning on their trough masters, too. Even Susan Delacourt of the Star alluded to the same thing on Don Newman’s show the other day, saying that the media seem to have begun to pushback, and if that’s the case, the Libs should be worried. I’m more worried about her apparent concern that the media have suddenly remembered that they are supposed to provide impartial, fair, objective coverage. But then, she did write a book on Paul Martin. Anybody else watching that get the impression that the media are abandoning the sinking ship?

  28. HOLLAND – Pastor Thomas J. Crouse is looking for a few good heterosexual men.
Crouse, pastor of Holland Congregational Church, is not running a dating service. He is sponsoring a “Mr. Heterosexual” contest, where contestants will tear Oprah magazines, play “Name that Potato Chip” blindfolded, discuss the best use of duct tape and display a talent.
All for $100 and a “Mr. Heterosexual” trophy.
    http://www.masslive.com/hampfrank/republican/index.ssf?/base/news-2/1134809006111130.xml&coll=1

  29. The Klander site crosses the line. I don’t think we should touch it with a ten foot pole. If we are going to clean up politics in this country, we can start right now by deciding what is right and what is wrong. Is it right to point out Liberal hypocracy? Yes. Is it right to use this filth to do it? IMO, No.

  30. A couple of reports from World Net Daily I believe should be looked at if one hasn’t already:
Russia renews arms race, has missiles impervious to BMD:
    http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=2459162005
    and
    Muslim grinches steal
    Bethlehem Christmas:
    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48064
This one describes how the Christian population of Bethlehem has been decimated from 90% to just 25% since 1995, when the PA assumed control. Christians are being violently persecuted, just as the Jews were leading up to the Holocaust.
You wouldn’t know it from MSM reports. A Must-read.

  31. Hey Iron Lady, The “Lie-beral Titanic” has suffered irrepairable damage and is close to sinking, with the cold unforgiving sea starting to wash over her decks. Her time is almost passed and after investigations have been done it will be revealed that this ship had serious design (ethical standards) flaws.

  32. I’m waiting for the massive, top-story-every-hour-day-after-day-till-it-decimates-the-Libs’-support MSM outrage against the Liberals for what one of their own high-profile operatives has done that would ordinarily be called “racist” and “sexist” by the Libs, the left and the MSM if it were a Conservative, who I doubt could ever do something so terrible without immediate dismissal from the Party and the consequent crucification of the entire Party and its leader by the MSM.
I expect the MSM to again naturally protect the Liberals from rightful charges of sexism and racism among their members.
And I expect the sexists and racists in the Liberal Party to be allowed to continue as members and powerful agents as if nothing has happened…
And the left and all who vote Liberal will remain blissfully ignorant or even oblivious to the dark truth about the Liberals and the left in general…
    Scary!

  33. My christmas wish was that Maz2 would post just once without quoting an article fully reprinted.
    Did I miss it?
    Perhaps next year.
    Happy Festivus,
    Ted.
