Yes, I remember Mike Harris and I’ll tell you, you won’t catch me voting for him or his Party this election, that’s for sure! And if you know what’s good for Canada you won’t either!

Mike Harris won back to back majorities in Ontario, something even Bill Davis never managed. Peterson got canned after 5 years, Bob Rae lasted one term. It is factually accurate to say Mike Harris is the most popular, successful, and dominant Ontario politician in recent memory.
Ontario was broken when Mike Harris came to town – one in eight Ontarians were dependent on welfare.
Mike Harris fixed Ontario; that’s why he was rewarded with back to back majority governments. Ontarians have voted for a Progressive Conservative government for 50 of the last 62 years for a reason: they don’t like socialist governments very much, something Dalton The Safety Premier is about to find out.

If Stephen Harper is “Canada’s Mike Harris” as this ad suggests, does that mean that Paul Martin is “Canada’s Dalton McGuinty” or is McGuinty “Ontario’s Paul Martin”. Take a look

I see that all of you whingers have conveniently forgotten that Harris slithered out of office with his tail rattling between his legs, minutes ahead of the very real possibility of criminal charges being laid against him. And he left Ernie, his “best friend”, Eves and his Conservative Party hanging out in the wind to dry when he did it. He didn’t have the courage to stand up and engage his opponents. By then, that was almost everyone in the province and cowards and bullies never stand up against anyone prepared to fight back, do they?
Based on his history, how could we expect him to stand up for anything – he’d already gotten his fat pension buy-out and his lucrative board memberships and his right wing think tank assignment as payoffs for the corporate shilling and outright giveaways he�d been promoting through his whole tenure as premier, hadn’t he?
Mike Harris exemplified Conservative despotism, greed and corruption at its zenith. He brought thuggery to an art form with his assaults on the poor, on teachers, on our environment, our societal norms and on anyone else he deemed the �enemy�. (George w. and his fellow travelers have been playing from the same playbook in the USA since 2000 and you can see how well those political philosophies have worked out south of the border. It�s a matter of scale. Ontario got Walkerton as a wake-up call, the US got Katrina and the utter destruction of New Orleans. Btw, did you know that Harris took a �fishing trip� with Bush jr. and senior just before the 2000 American elections? Ahh, to have been a fly on the walls of that fish hut!)
Harris tried to make myopic and selfish greed into an acceptable standard of behaviour for our Ontario government but was finally called on it by disgusted Ontarians � we may be dim easterners but he was such a threat to us that even we had to eventually wake up from our usual political lethargy. Ontarians, with the exception of the weak-minded and selfish, were quite rightly prepared to throw the bastard and his henchmen to the dogs after witnessing his continual assaults on what we considered our just and civil society with the only real benefits going to a small group of the most well-off amongst us. His $200 tax giveaways contributed nothing to responsible governance or to our society as a whole.
He was and remains a liar of some accomplishment and reputation. He was and remains a vain, petty, thuggish and evil man, only in it for what he can steal from the state for himself and his corporate sponsors. In that way he differs little from most Conservatives I have met over the past few years. A not-too-bright ideologue that deserved to be driven from office for his gross incompetence at what he was hired to do � governing.
And in regards to him being responsible for the turn-around in Ontario�s financial affairs, it has been widely recognized by economic scholars everywhere that Harris�s policies contributed little or nothing to the upswing. It was the full-steam-ahead American economy under Bill Clinton that was responsible for that.
I admit to still being ashamed of myself for voting for him the first time. I naively believed that he meant what he said. He convinced me with his glib assurances that the policies he proposed would go a long way to turning around our difficulties here in Ontario. I couldn�t have been more wrong.
And as far as those of you who are still supporting him and think his legacy was a good one � I have to question your judgment. If, after all we�ve learned about the man you still feel the need to support him and his fascist policies of divide and conquer – of providing enemies for the general population to hate – of his intractable and stubborn support for the discredited policies of �privatization�, �privatization�, �privatization�, (which after all, is just another neo-liberal buzzword which translates as �steal from the state�, �steal from the state�, �steal from the state�, [think, Highway 407 � a fraudulent billion dollar giveaway to the investment bankers Ernie was working for before coming back into government as Harris�s bum-boy yet again.]) If after all of this you still consider him and his policies sound, there is no help for you. You�re not just delusional � I have to question your intelligence.
He was a spectacular and dangerous failure as premier of Ontario. And only the ignorant and self-interested among us still have reasons to be still celebrating his abuse of the premiership.

Well Ron, no I’m not. I come from that other wasteland of common sense, Ontario.
However, back to my point, at least it is a start. Getting an endorsement from 2 of the 5 Provincial parties in Quebec is a big step forward for a party that has been frozen out of Quebec since the end of the 80’s.
