Let’s see what our intrepid Canadian “investigative” reporting industry has been up to in the latest Gurmond Grewal “undeclared cheque cashing scandal”…
In the mainstream media equivalent of McDonald’s buying and reselling the Whopper[tm], the Globe and Mail “reports” that they are viewers of the CBC .
The RCMP is investigating complaints that contributors to Conservative MP Gurmant Grewal’s 2004 campaign have not received tax receipts for their money, CBC News reported last night.
“This is really strange and unusual,” said Barj Dhahan, a campaign contributor. “We have one of our national parties and one of its candidates is accepting political contributions and there’s no receipts. So it raises a lot of questions.”
The Vancouver businessman told the CBC he gave Mr. Grewal a cheque for $600 for his 2004 re-election campaign. Mr. Dhahan said he never received a tax receipt.
Camille Bains is just as diligent in repeating the story for Macleans;
Barj Dhahan, a Vancouver businessman, said the Mounties planned to take a statement from him on Wednesday. Dhahan said he contributed $600 toward Grewal’s campaign on Dec. 27, 2003, and has had about a dozen phone conversations since February with staff at the MP’s constituency office about a receipt.
[…]
According to Elections Canada, a campaign contribution can be made directly to a candidate but receipts must be issued and funds must be deposited into the campaign or riding association account.
Dhahan, along with his associate Sarup Mann, met Grewal in his office on Dec. 27, 2003, the day both men made $600 contributions toward the MP’s re-election.
(And several months before Elections Canada revised their rules to require the issuance of tax receipts, but why dwell on minutiae?)
To their credit, CTV quotes Dhahan’s “associate” Sarup Mann;
“I have nothing against Gurmant, he’s a friend of mine, said Sarup Mann, who says he wrote Grewal a cheque for $600 and never got a receipt.”
… and finds a not-so-irrelevant tidbit of information that neither CBC, the reselling Globe or Macleans bothered looking into.
But, he is also on the executive of the Liberal Party’s Vancouver South riding association, Dosanjh’s riding.
How many “investigations” has the media broken about Grewal so far – only to see him cleared? Is anyone else losing count? And why are mentions of criminal investigations into Tim Murphy and Ujjal Dosanjh over the tape affair being omitted from recent reports?
One wonders if the RCMP would be knocking on the door of Inky Marks today, had he obtained proof of the offers allegedly made to him to cross the floor that included taped participation by the PMO and Health Minister.
Update – Brent Colbert wonders if someone has been playing the “long con”. Where the Cash-Filled-Envelope Party is involved – anything is possible.

And that is why the CBC won it’s asshat this week! Maybe the G&M and Macleans should be honourable mentions – thanks Kate.
Pointing out the decidedly and obvious media bias once again.
Why is it that we do not have full blown investigations of REAL and Corrupt wrongdoing by the liberals?
Anybody notice the connection with the drug sting made by the US DEA on one ‘lady’ whose father is connected very strongly to Dosanjh?
I do not see investigations flowing from that connection and there should be if there are not.
Not to mention the heavy waft of corruption that flows from every move the liberals make.
Also, I hear that the Queen has been petitioned to step in over passage of bill c-38 by the senate, which is expected in days.
Not that I think she will do that, but it would be a delight if she did instruct her GG here in Canada and other Commonwealth countries to take exception to the passage of this particular bill.
I think the petitioners have a case, but that’s just me.
Indeed, the message is clear to anybody else thinking about blowing the whistle on Liberal wrong-doing; your credibility will be destroyed, your reputation and career will be shattered, you may even get deported; and the media will be only too happy to participate in your character assassination.
Part of me wishes that Harper would take a more verbal stance against this media campaign against, and paint it for what it really is; an attempt to destroy the credibility of Grewal and thus the tapes, and an unspoken threat against any other politicians who try to expose Liberal corruption. However, it’ll just reinforce his “angry” personna.
I wonder if what is happening to Grewal is why Inky Mark chose to remain silent about who approached him?
Well done Smithers!
Does Inky need the CBC killing his career?
T Libranos have this under-the-table donation routine all figured out. Cash in envelopes is far, far cleaner than a personal cheque. Taking a cheque instead of cash does not signal something fishy – it’s an obviously auditable financial instrument. Taking cash in envelopes, in true Librano style, is fishy.
As usual, the Libranos bet on the fealty of their MSM puppets and the stupidity of the anesthetized public. Sadly, it’s too often a safe bet.
There comes a time when it is futile to continue on the current path.
The MSM will not change.
The political system in Canada will not be changed.
Ontario will not vote for change.
At what point do we finally say enough is enough?
Kate has something up on the latest Grewal matter.
Go see small dead animals: Ujjal Dosanjh’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
Worth the read.
I remind everyone, that there are no receipts given to donations towards a nomination fight. To give a tax receipt in such a circumstance would be illegal!
What a waste of time. What about Ujjal Dosanjh’s buddy: Kalwant Singh Puar, on the executive of Vancouver’s Ross Street Sikh temple. He has been a high-profile supporter of federal Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh.
His name came up recently when his daughter was arrested by DEA agents for being leaders of an IndoCanadian gang who were smuggling designer drugs into Seattle.

Go read WITTW track-backed post. It’s illegal to provide a tax receipt for a donation towards a nomination battle.
When Paur was arrested what she had to say to DEA agents is very interesting: One , she told them they could be “six feet under” for crossing her.
AND that “they” ran things in Vancouver and even the police were on the payroll because they knew which side their bread was buttered. ANYBODY who crosses us is d.e.a.d. and everybody knows it.
Apparently the whole family is running things and the head of this family is the man who supports and promotes Ujjal Dosanjh.
It was interesting to note the DEA agents response when she told him that he did not know who he was dealing with. He responded that SHE was talking to the US government.
More Ado About Nothing
I think the “bombshell” will be released on a Saturday in mid August… No, wait, that’s too far away… The August long weekend… Timed perfectly so no one will notice.
Yup. Good for the DEA for doing the job.
Another sad example that you need to leave Bananada to get things done.
Round up every single MP and beat confessions out of them!
The Federal Government- ANY Federal Government- is ABOVE THE LAW! (And our RCMP is right on station to make sure it STAYS that way).
It’s not like getting investigated by the RCMP actually means anything.
I think there was some sort of bombing a while ago.
Something to do with an airplane. Air India? Ireland? Narita? I’m not sure . . . It’s all a blur.
Anyway, the RCMP looked into that for 20 or 30 or 40 years, and then the defendents ended up being named to the senate or something.
If the RCMP were invesigating the London bombings, one could expect them to arrest some Basques, circa 2025.
This country is in serious trouble. Monday’s report by Terry Milewski which aired on “The National” is the final undeniable result of the confluence of three forces — a corrupt national government, it’s own coast-to-coast propaganda network, and their own private police force working together to intimidate and persecute a political opponent who who dared cross the Liberals by exposing them.
After he taped the PMO in action, Grewal was first probed by the RCMP, Transport Canada and Air Canada for doing something completely legal — handing a cassette to someone who was on the same flight that Grewal had already paid for, after he had already passed security. Then, five days later, his immigration status was suddenly under investigation. And now, the RCMP and the CBC is after him again, this time over a few $600 cheques and a $1000 cheque which were made out not to a political party, but to Grewal himself.
What the hell is going on?
Terry Milewski: “Gurmant Grewal is already under investigation after tape-recording his conversations with Liberals about crossing the floor..” (take a moment to parse that) “Now CBC news has learned that the RCMP are also investigating his campaign finances. The reason is that some of Grewal’s contributors…say they don’t know where their money went.”
Now, CBC’s government journalists have never once asked the journalistic question — even after a public enquiry — of where hundreds of thousands of dollars in CASH came from (you can’t withdraw that much from a bank) let alone where the recipts are. And CBC has always been completely diligent in dismissing the connection between millions and millions of missing and misappropriated dollars, and the Liberal Party; the responsibility was always somewhere vaguely off in the direction of a dismissing hand. But here is Terry Milewski, justifying his investigation into several small personal cheques made out to Grewal:
“The issue here is that the elections act has very strict rules about campaign donations. Everyone must get a recipt, and the act also makes it illegal for donations to be deposited anywhere but
in the campaign’s account, or the riding association. The act also says that only the official agent can handle contributions, and that every one must be reported to Elections Canada. In Gurmant Grewal’s campaign, we found five cases where these things don’t seem to have happened”.
Is is possible to die from a lack of irony?
Here’s how Milewski ends his report, and again, parse the first sentence: “As the riding president Jim Holt said, these charges are part of what he called a political assassination attempt by the Liberals against Grewal. And it’s true that some of those complaining did give money to the Liberals as well as the Conservatives, but neither Grewal nor any other Conservative is ready to give a full accounting of where the money went, and why these donations were not reported as required.”
“Terry Milewski, CBC News, Surry, B.C.”
How do you spell vendetta?
Um…am I missing something here? Why are all the missing receipts for $600?
Sounds like someone wrote a script….
Well, I guess we know they did, but still, do they have to be so OBVIOUS about it?
And still no mention of the Fraser Institute’s report on Lib spending, RCMP and Privy Council contributions, etc. Grewal has been incredibly patient, as only an innocent man can be. But it really is a disgrace to see the way MSM treats this man, all because he exposed Liberal corruption for what it really is. I don’t see anything on Tamil Tiger donations to the Libs, or other terrorist organizations that aren’t terrorist really because they all do some sort of charity work.
What disappoints me in this situation is that I know Barj Dhahan, though not very well, and he is a Christian. For him to be involved in what seems to me to be a “sleeper sting” saddens me. I wonder how many other rookie MPs have got such ‘sleepers’ waiting to jump up and bite them the moment they cause trouble.
Liberals Mull Bringing Themselves Down

I guess it’s becoming clear now whey the Disney Corp was interesting in purchasing this cartoon police force.
Ahhh… just wait until Grewal’s tapes of his conversations with Harper and CPC caucus meetings come out – well, the ones prior to the wiretap sweeps, anyway. They should be interesting.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Speaking truth to opposition.
People on the left think that Good Mr. Iron Man is going to take his party into the bottom of the ocean.
“Iron”icly enough… I feel the EXACT same way regarding Belinda Stronach!
I have much to say, but it has been a long day, and I hope tommorow will be better, so…
Long Live Good Mr. Iron Man
Good Knight…
I feel for Grewal but in a way I’m almost glad it has come to this, perhaps more people will come to realize that what passes for free Liberalism in this country degenerated into Communism sans the violence years ago.
But what need of voilence with a passified un-armed populace?
Jesus Canada wake up, they stacked the Supreme courts along with the Senate, have a sypathetic Governer General and will pick the next one, a monopoly on media with only the SUN giving weak opposition to their propaganda.
The RCMP and educators are seemingly on side along with most of the bureaucracy and I’d bet all senior mandarins.
They reduced our armed forces to less than required just for minimal national defence and use them for political pawns.
What more must they control or influence before we admit a political party has seized control of the society’s infrastructures?
Read the Nine Commentaries, remove the violence and you have Liberal Canada.
I’m counting Kate. And we should be demanding the RCMP charges….against Dosanjh, Murphy and Martin for up to 4 breaches of criminal code statute including corrupting a public officer and conspiracy.
We chat about that very matter here:
http://thefirebrand.blogspot.com/2005/07/warm-up-jail-cell-for-natural.html
Kate are you interested in circulating the petition in Saskabush?
Change requires organisation, commitment and leadership. The internet provides a great way for those against neo-Liberalism and the left to become organised in order to force change. There are many ways this can be achieved, here are a few:
– Activating and organising at the grass roots level (like the Republicans did) before the next election.
– An organised tax revolt (withholding taxes) would crush the Liberals, that’s if enough Conservatives got on board and didn’t suck out at the last minute.
– A million person march on Parliament Hill (or even better, Sussex Drive) calling for the resignation of Martin, followed by a full investigation and prosecution of he and his government. A large enough march wouldn’t be ignored by the media.
We need a massive, organized and focussed rebellion. The thugs have hijacked our country and there’s a criminal occupying the PM’s office. It’s time for all good Canadians to organise and come to the rescue of our country, rather than just bitch.
Oh, and how about a poison arrow aimed at the Liberal achilles heel? Support or agitation of the Quebec sovereignists could get started with little more than bumper stickers, as long as enough people put them on their cars. The downside would be the loss of Quebec, the upside would be the end of Liberal tyranny and with any luck, their demise as a political party. The termites have burrowed into the infrastructure and sometimes you have to knock the house down or at least part of it to get rid of them.
Excellent; IrwinDaisy, excellent!
Doing something constructive, corrective, active about the mess, like bringing in more bodies.
Personally I ask likely looking strangers, Do you spend time on line with your computer?
Usually the answer is yes. I’m pretty good at picking possible co-horts.
Then I talk about blogs, a fuller awarenes and hand them a sheet with choice posts and about six blogsite addresses.
All the people I have engaged this way have been positive.
I admit though, my mental machinery has not delivered a sure-fire means whereby we could all easily organize.
A petition-like blog page is a possibility I guess. It would take a lot of promoting around the bogosphere to get many to sign in.
This constructive thinking is worthwhile in any case. If I lived in Ottawa there would be a good chance I and friends would be walking about the hill with placards reading
*$4.6 Billion not budgeted*, *Libs Repay Now!*
*Vote-Buying is Fraud!*, *Bar CSL from Seaway*.
MacKenzieRedoux is right also. There is enough evidence with the 4 breaches mentioned along with proven links in Gomery report evidence to put both Martin and Chretien along with other minions behind bars.
We should develop this further. So few Canadians are focused on a singular cause, that even realatively small groups of one mind can have way more effect than one would think. 73s TG at BendGovernment.blogspot.com
One way to help is to go into different discussion groups and rebutt the garbage spewed out there about the CPC. Check out the forums run by CARP, a huge organization reaching lots of viewers. Their forums are mainly inhabited by the radical left who spew out some of the most malicious garbage about Harper and the CPC I’ve ever come across.
I firmly believe that the internet can help affect change so as activists and supporters we should be countering the left wing radicals who are allready infesting discussion groups.
http://www.50plus.com/ and go to forums
As far as Grewal goes, the CBC did a hatchet job on him, they owe him and the party an apology and retraction. Write to them and the ombudsman.
What the Conservative party is sorely lacking is not only vision, but ideas. A situation that leaves the constituency uninspired, angry and frustrated. What we need is a separate forum that’s promoted by all the Conservative blogs, where ideas can be posted and discussed.
All great revolutions start with ideas that are shared with other like-minded individuals. Like viruses, the better the ideas the more they’ll spread.
What about FreeDominion.ca they would probably accomodate that?
