We know that Frank Stronach/Magna was Paul Martin’s largest single contributor for his leadership campaign.
Then Stronach and his other corporate powers fronted his own daughter for the CPC leadership.
So, in essence, corporate Canada wanted to control both major parties.
Question 1: Who is controlling the NDP? What corporate forces have Jack Layton so spooked that he is aiding and abetting a corupt regime?

Um, I hate to be rude here, but unless the Grits are talking about junking confidence votes when the margin of defeat was due to circumstances beyond the MPs control (“stuck in elevator”), I don’t think this should cause such a hullabaloo.
Yes, I know (or at least I think I know) that Westminster precedent says if a vote is lost a vote is lost, irrespective of who can’t (as opposed to won’t) show up.
To which I say, maybe that precedent out to be changed or tossed.
Anyone who has seen my posts now I’m a huge Toryphile, but the idea that a government can, or should, be knocked down due to a traffic jam, plane delay, etc., is more than a little unseemly.

The Grits are talking about any non-confidence vote as far as I can tell. They’ve effectively ignored four so far (one procedural vote asking them to resign, and three motions to ajourn Parliament, which are also technically nonconfidence votes), with only positive consequences, so what’s the big deal about ignoring a couple more?
I see your point on losing the vote on a “stuck elevator”, but the trouble is the Liebrals keep on moving the goal-posts until they are guaranteed a win!

Why? I think we need to understand who is pulling the strings behind the scenes. Who, besides the media. And, who is controlling the media?
Who controls the NDP so completely that the Liberals have utter confidence they have Jack Layton in their hip pocket for these votes?
Who’s to say they’ll respect the outcome of an election, anyway? There is no shame in this party, apparently. And I agree – Harper is scary because he has principles and cannot be compromised. Too bad the same cannot be said of the Newfies who just breathed new life into them, and Carolyn Parrish who is ready to return to the fold in a ‘to hell with the American bastards’ demonstration of Librano$ desperation. Starting to look more like Cuba North than ever.
Folks, the media is the easy part of the question.
We’ve had lefty MSM down here for years, largely due to 2 things:
1) the baby boomers who were reporters in the 70s, and are bureau chiefs now, and who steeped themselves in mroal relativism and other lefty platitudes
2) Watergate: the fact that two reporters set off the unraveling had everyone in “journalism” convinced they could “make a difference.”
For you guys, number 2 would be, I assume, substituted by Trudeaumania.
The one thing to keep in mind here that when it comes to the media, you’re not talking conpsiracy, but a mass consistency (literally a “hobgoblin of little minds”). These people simply assume the liberal position is the natural default position, because that’s all they see.
Down here, they dub everything between NY/DC and Los Angeles as “flyover country,” a mocking term for area in which they would never set foot.
My guess is Canadian MSM has the same contempt for any address outside Toronto, Ottowa, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Judge rejects Gagliano’s bid
Sponsorship audit reveals $355M cost
MONTREAL (CP) � A member of Prime Minister Paul Martin�s office is scheduled to testify before the Gomery commission on Wednesday about his role in the sponsorship program.
Gaetano Manganiello, a press office manager in the PMO, worked for the Liberal party in the late 1990s. He was employed in the federal office of the secretary of state for international financial institutions before working for Martin.
Manganiello has been on a leave of absence in advance of his testimony.
Martin spokesman Scott Reid denied the testimony will link the PMO with the sponsorship scandal.
�Mr. Manganiello�s testimony will speak for itself,� Reid said in an e-mail. �The only connection between sponsorship and the Martin PMO his testimony will serve to highlight is our office�s sincere determination to ensure that all the facts are brought forward.�
Manganiello isn�t the first member of the current government to testify at the inquiry.
John Welch, a former aide to Heritage Minister Liza Frulla, testified that he organized two Liberal fundraisers while on the payroll of the ad firm at the centre of the sponsorship scandal.
But he categorically denied working full time for the Liberals while earning a total of $97,000 from Groupaction Marketing in 1999 and 2000.
Former federal Liberal executive Benoit Corbeil testified that several current and former Liberals, both federal and provincial were paid a total of $50,000 in cash from ad man Jean Brault during the 2000 federal election campaign.

Suppose the Liberals lose a confidence vote, then the next day promptly introduce a Motion of Confidence which is voted upon. A Motion of Confidence takes precedence over a Motion of No Cofidence. This has been used many times before in other Parliamentary systems, including Canada under Pearson. How is that wrong?
Only when Canadians realize that they have not lived under a “government” for the past decade but a corporate-political cartel which exists only to broker influence and run unethical/illegal revenue schemes to enrich itself and it’s patrons, we will become a nation again.
As far as I’m concerned, right now, we have an illegitimate cabal in constitutional breach and in defiance of the POGG ( peace order and good governance)principles of this nation’s rule of law. To exasperate things, we have a smug, nurotic, sycophant media who have used massive propaganda to keep this cabal in power by hiding it’s many crimes and nature from us.

All I can say here Allison is connect the dots. The NDP is still influenced by the Rea brothers and both of them have and are working as political powerbrokers in the employ of Powercor.
Perhaps Jack knows the old unionist trick that when a union leader ( or NDP zealot) is effective in creating problems for the “boss” a lucrative offer to buy that agaitation off is usually in the wind. I suspect there will e some election donations and some money in foreign bank accounts or some great private sector plumb jobs waiting for “dippers” who prop up Powercor Paul’s lame regime long enough to buy an election.
There is nothing more greedy than a socialist….nor easier to buy.

I am absolutly astonished that the Liberal Government has been able to get away with ignoring the various votes prior to May 19 and to say they will ignore the results of future confidence votes if it doesn’t suit them.
What is the Governor General doing about this ? Neglecting her duty it seems. Why hasn’t she called in Paul Martin ? why hasn’t she dismissed the Government or ordered a dissolution of Parliament ? Why hasn’t she been sacked ? What’s going on ? Why aren’t the public up in arms.
I’ve just seen the provisional result of the Labrador by-election. There’s good and bad news. The bad news is that the Liberals were returned with only a small dimunition in their vote. The good news. There was an increased turn out and the Conservative vote leapt from 1,400 to 3,400.
Perhaps uncommitted Canadians are waking up and supporting Conservative candidates or candidates with the best chance of unseating the Liberals.
I think the Liberal share of the vote dropped by 11% and the Conservative increased by about 17%.
Such a swing across the country would produce a spectacular result in a General Election.
However, with an extra member + darling Belinda the Liberals seem safe for now unless Layton and Co come to their senses.
I do wish you and your fellow bloggers every success in your attempts to restore some integrity in Canadian Life. I fear a similar battle is looming in the UK.

I assuming the Libs just think they are doing what is right for the country. The thrive on a logic that is almost narcistic. If you don’t share our values,you must not share Canada’s values, and thus must be on the “fringe”. The events of the last weeks have sparked a fire that will consume Confederation. The party will be bigger in rural Alberta when Quebec is gone anyway. I can only now share a deep sympathy the the Bloq Quebecois cause. Let Labrador rot.
