Will Stephen Harper return to lead the Conservatives? Should he?
http://www.poletical.com/stephen-harper-returns-to-leadership.php
I voted yes even though I know Stephen would say FU, I don’t want the job. And I don’t blame him.
No, he looked disinterested when he was busy losing. The party needs an enema!
I would love to have Harper as PM again, but the country (spurred by the media) would treat him just as badly as they did last time. Too many Canadians these days are nasty, selfish and ignorant. They do not deserve a leader as fine as Harper.
I agree Linda, Mr Harper, a policy wonk, was not a great leader, but he did clean up the last Chretien liberal mess, and got no thanks for it. Now the mess is so big, I would bet he would refuse to get involved, and I wouldn’t blame him one bit. He was a chance to elevate beyond the control of Quebec, and blew that, and he didn’t do much on the CBC and the gun issue, but really improved our fiscal problems, only to have Turdo destroy all that he had accomplished. Would you want to have that job now???
I voted no. The commies are in power. Nothing will change that.
It was a good article.
Hell, no!
Harper is part of the problem, not the solution. For chrissakes, he KILLED what was left of our ‘Reform Movement’. I think that Scheer and O’Toole were/are such absolute disasters for Conservatism that people are now remembering Harper’s reign as ‘solid’ in comparison. It was not!
He was a great manager but a piss poor leader
He screwed Alberta, so NO. He was a loser. He had a huge majority and did nothing about the CBC. He also sat on 4.1T in Total Government Debt. FAKECON. Tell me again who was PM in 2014.

Will Erin O’Toole’s strategy work?
http://www.poletical.com/otoole-conservative-loser-trudeau-majority.php
No, he will not. The article is just a bunch of BS leftist talking points.
The Liberals beat Harper with an air headed “dreamy dreamboat “ who was overly promoted by the drooling MSM. The Liberals used pot legalisation and the promise to screw over rich people to get the votes they needed from Southern Ontario and Quebec. Essentially they used the politics of envy and union greed.
I run off a parasite who was yelling at me that I was going to deny him is handout from his hero. He was from Quebec and was triggered by my lawn sign.
Conservatives will not ever win by being leftists. There are already a shitload of them to vote for already. They will only win when they provide a real alternative to socialism.
Sad day when Montrealers have more stones than Albertans.
Where are you, cowboys??

BAD – That’s awesome! First Timer’s video hit the mark as well.
Thanks.
She may be Canada’s equivalent to PJW.
BAD – Paul Joseph Watson? It would be nice to have a Canadian like him. Mark Steyn was great in his day.
I made that comparison because her biting comments and overall snark reminds me of him.
Gawd I love her.
Nice cleavage and a great post.
Which “Albertans” are you referring to? The ones in Edmonton (mostly government workers), or Calgary whose downtown core has been gutted, economically by anti oil/gas policies from Zentrul Kanerder? We send you Equalization in the billions annually and you have the nerve to mock us? What does your car run on, your buses, trains and especially airplanes? Anyone who ever worked in oil and gas left for Oklahoma or Texas. There’s a hard core remaining and they’ve got better things to do than stroll down main street earning CERB and bitching about how bad de gubmint is treating them. The cowboys don’t live in the cities and are still running Big Ag and don’t have time to parade down main street either. It’s planting time soon dude, or they’re branding calves and rounding up strays and wondering who some SFB from Toronnastan is beaking off about why we don’t join you for your inept posturing.
Anyone who ever worked in oil and gas left for Oklahoma or Texas.
I made my first long-distance trip with my truck last week when I drove it from Fort St. John to Edmonton so that I could register it in Alberta.
It was the first time I travelled that route in over 3 years and one thing I noticed was a distinct absence of oil-related traffic on the highway. I guess that the work on the leases that had been committed earlier is done now and the equipment that was being hauled back then has gone elsewhere.
FYI…I live in Alberta, and have taken part in our own demonstrations. And it’s not genuine cowboys…it is the individuals who put down the east, and claim that we are somehow more independently minded, but only speak in the Holy Huddle.
Demonstrations may be only parades…you have a point. I do not ask this sarcastically, but what are our other options right now? Kenney is not going to drop a vote on UDI. Separation parties need our support, but can our economy survive as they build? And unless we change our school systems, separation only postpones the slide into 3rd world Marxism.
I accept your criticisms, and hope that I have responded respectfully. And really, I agree with you that we need more, but at this point I do not know what that is, so I would like to use the tools available, as those Montrealers are.
This is advice for so-cons but it’s applicable to Albertans in general.
Don’t fight the power. Subvert it.
http://www.poletical.com/social-conservatives-canada.php
First Timer: No problem, but street protests do squat. Get thee to a local political Party. You have to start somewhere. Street is a waste of time.
Political parties are a waste of time.
They exist to harness energy and grift off of it.
Looking at this Montreal protest, I am starting to see street demonstrations in a new light. They are NOT merely aimed at getting a message out to the MSM and elites. They never listen, anyway. But what demonstrations may do is create momentum amongst the populace – to tell people that they are not alone, that there is an alternative to the Narrative, and that we the people need to do whatever we can to enact change. So we may be looking at two prongs of the same movement – demonstrations to build support and create momentum and a realization that many share the Views We Dare Not Speak, and then take the fire in the belly that demonstrations foster, and use it for political ends, doing what you suggest through parties. The enemy has used Groupthink against us for decades; maybe we can harness the power of Group more honestly and use it for the Truth, instead of for lies.

Derek – Oregon State Advocates Global “Convergence”, Equalising Per Capita Emissions
Socially just policies aimed at limiting the Earth’s human population hold tremendous potential for advancing equity while simultaneously helping to mitigate the effects of climate change, Oregon State University researchers say
“From both climate and social justice perspectives, affluent overconsumption by the wealthy must be addressed immediately, for example through policies like eco-taxes such as carbon pricing,” Ripple added. “Reducing fertility rates alone is clearly not enough. The middle class and rich must be responsible for most of the needed reduction in emissions.”

Would be an amazing thing indeed. I tried to think of something that would bring Canadians to the streets en mass….couldn’t come up with literally anything. Puts me in mind of a statement made by a Chinese economic minister a few years back. He was responding to being asked why they were opening up to Capitalism. To paraphrase, he said the citizens can have all the economic freedom they are willing to work for, the Party will remain in control of political freedom. After all, he explained, if you make sure they have a new IPhone they don’t care about anything else. Sad but true.

John Podesta Threatens “Consequences” Over Australia’s Weak Climate Policy
Trillions of dollars are being poured into preparations in Asia for the next major military confrontation, and Australia is cashing in…
A substantial share of the soaring military budgets of Asian superpowers is being spent on the purchase of Australian coal and iron ore.
With money of that magnitude on the table, and the promise of much more to come, nobody in the Australian government cares what the Biden administration has to say about carbon tariffs, climate change or reducing Aussie coal exports.
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/04/28/john-podesta-threatens-consequences-over-australias-weak-climate-policy/
And US coal production will increase by 8.6% in 2021!
https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/market-insights/latest-news/coal/040621-eia-us-coal-production-export-consumption-forecasts-rise-for-2021
Perhaps Zhou Bie-Den should cut his own coal production if he’s worried about ‘climate change’
Joe – Didn’t see that coming. Things you won’t see on CBC, or CNN, while Biden (sorry, Harris) is in office.
Thanks
CBC, CNN,and others are well paid to keep quiet. To quote Al Pacino, speaking to Robert Duvall in the first Godfather movie, “We have reporters on our payroll, don’t we?”.

Reading a few Globe and Mail articles this morning, one notices that the words “husband” and “wife” have been purged from the text, and the word “partner” has replaced them. As in “howdy partner?”.
Can’t connote heterosexuality any more, can we?
“Partner” covers everything from crime to business and all manner of relationships. Hearing a female refer to her wife or a male refer to his husband kinda has an overtone of in your face activism….just my opinion, I could be completely wrong.
Must be an election coming. Blackie had his loyal CBC run a Harper is Hitler, Justin is wonderful story at its website this morning. They also explained that Quebec and the diverse population in the Toronto area will give Great Leader another majority.
“Baizuo” Justin Trudeau. The Chinese have coined this word to describe social-justice-flaunting liberals — i.e. self-loathing anti-nationalist Western liberals with weak brains:

“borrowing it without asking permission.”

Some minorities are better than others? Or is it worse?
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/action-needed-to-end-anti-black-racism-in-public-service-advocates/ar-BB1ghmHk?ocid=msedgdhp
“Thompson said the government should create a separate category for Black workers under the Employment Equity Act in order to guarantee better representation in the public service.
He said Black people are currently considered a part of the visible minority group.”
So he advocates categorizing “visible minorities” making some more equal than others?
Yes, basically the idea is the your level of equality* varies inversely with the average IQ of your group and hence with the a degree of fuckupedness of your culture.
*some are more equal than others.
How about establishing “competence” as the first criterion for hiring in the civil service? Spent about three hours on hold – and counted myself lucky not to be kicked off – before getting a francophone to answer my query (had been referred to a specialist). Said woman – just going off shift – was very affable but gave me a response to my query (okay, not so simple: couple owns house; husband dies early in the year and title is now transferred to wife who dies later in the year – how do I report the disposition). The on-line guide said I had to report it on first spouse’s death but could defer designation of principal residence until she died. The useless ornament at CRA told me to ignore any disposition as of husband’s death and just report everything on wife’s return. Which was totally opposite to CRA’s on-line advice, but whatever.
Went elsewhere; was advised that do disposition AND designation on both returns. Did that.
At least this go-round with a francophone, she spoke adequate English. Do remember, back in the day, when the agent who answered my call on the “English” line has so little command of English that I reverted to French – and my French was never that great.
Gee, that sounds familiar…..
Not only have I had some tricky tax issues to deal with during the settlement of my father’s estate, I was also put on hold for insufferably long periods of time, and had to deal with people whose command of English was worse than my capabilities in French.
Maybe I should revert to speaking with a German accent, or simply in German, and see how far that gets me.

From my wife’s Chinese-born acupuncturist, from last week: “Never, ever eat imported food from China. They have no rules as to food safety”.
Or anything else for that matter. Have a friend who has things manufactured in China for sale in her store. She is very astute and went directly to the factories in China to negotiate price. No matter where she went, same story; 3 wholesale prices offered. One with low quality materials and zero quality control, one with better materials and zero quality control, and one with first class materials and an inspection off the assembly line. The price increased as you went up the chart. So which of the three would our brilliant businesses choose?
IBM sold its laptop division (which made the famous ThinkPad machines) to the Chinese firm Lenovo about 15 years ago.
The TPs were, when IBM built them, pretty good. For the first few years, however, the ones from Lenovo were rubbish. It appears that quality has improved a lot since then as I’ve seen Lenovos being used by people as well as on sale in stores.
Similarly, there were misgivings about Chinese-built amateur radio gear. For example, the Baofeng line of hand-held transceivers were often of dubious quality and, from what I heard, fell far short of what Japanese manufacturers such as Kenwood or Yaesu produced.
Again, it appears that the quality has improved as I hear hams using them more. All my radios were made by Japanese companies and I’ve never had any quality control issues with them. Why should I change brands?

It’s trying to show a 5-year old’s understanding of inequity and how to fix it. It took reading through a lot of the comments to find the gem “This is a great analogy because we know that you can’t straighten a tree like that. It is absurd. So, I guess we can conclude that all their proposed ideas are equally disconnected from reality.”
My take on initial read was even stronger: they are saying that anything that works and is productive must be warped, coerced, mangled, and possibly destroyed in order to produce “fairer outcomes”. Thereby making everyone poorer because less can be produced.
It reminds me of something I encountered while teaching at Armpit College. Education isn’t about equality of opportunity, but equality of outcome, leading to the dissolution of standards and requirements.

The most stunning thing in all this bullshit is the number of Canadian government leaders of all stripes who have made statements that, deliberately and maliciously in some cases, pit one group of citizens against another. Unbelievably feckless and ignorant.
It could be a diversionary tactic. A divided citizenry would be too busy fighting amongst itself to take on the government.
