Over at HuffPo, Alec Baldwin, (of the “Film Actors Guild”) speaks out on what’s wrong [in the war to defeat Arab terrorism], and what we need to do about it. One of these is real, and one is a line from a puppet movie*. Can you tell which is which?
Andy McCarthy on more dangerous fools;
ISG Chairman James Baker, a foolish man, looked Congress in the eye on Thursday and explained his master plan. Did it seem foolish to propose negotiations with Iran, our relentless enemy? Sure. But, the “realist” doyen puttered, if we invite them to negotiate about Iraq’s future, and they demur, why, we’ll expose their intransigence for all the world to see.
Right. They slaughter and abet the slaughter of our marines, our airmen, our sailors, William Buckley, Robert Stethem, William Higgins, and countless others. They tell us their defining goal is a world without America, a world in which our allies are wiped from the face of the earth. But, at long last, we’ll know who they really are … if they don’t show up for a meeting.

yeah, we got a new tough liberal sheriff in town, gonna keep that PMSH in line.
And, if you don’t like heem (enough to vote for moi), he’ll become 100% percent, true blue, err rouge Habitant!
i really hat quoting movie scripts.. but here goes, ’cause it’s good..and reasonably accurate:
A Few Good Men
Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You?! You, Lieutenant Weinberg?! I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall! You need me on that wall! We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said, “Thank you,” and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
Hi Paul,
That’s one of my favorite (recent) movie quotes as well. I have a friend south of the 49th that I can picture quoting that very passage! (He served as a Marine too!)
One of my favourite quotes on the subject is:
“Diplomacy” is the art of saying “Nice doggie” until you can find a big enough rock.
The “truth” behind this saying (IMHO) is diplomacy CAN WORK and SHOULD BE EMPLOYED…BUT:
– you have to have access to a big enough rock; and
– you have to be willing to use it.
My wife tries to use diplomacy with the kids…and they ignore her because they know she is all talk. Diplomacy is useless if there are no consequences.
The good news is President Bush is unlikely to show up for very many of James Baker’s meetings.
The ISG is pure political theatre.
How about elimination the SCREEN ACTORS GUILD and save us having to listen to anymore of this jerk ALEC BALDWINS idiotic blather he still is a jerk and his movies stink
And the movie industry wonders why it is not drawing people to the movies. These so called celebrities think their opinion influences everyone, not just the leftist kooks. They should realize that the US is divided almost 50-50. People use their wallets to protest. Some “star” says something I don’t believe in, I refuse to spend money supporting their movie, record, cd etc. Think of the Dixie Chicks who can’t fill a concert date except in Canada. If they were for Bush, they couldn’t even do that. If the media would get back to the basics and tell the truth, and get off their hate for Bush or Harper both countries would be better off. Take Duceppes latest threat. Fine, don’t let french troops go to Afgan, after all the french have always been cowards, think WW11. We now have two french cowards from Que leading parties and they will do great harm to Canada if they succeed. Who will ever trust us again, especially if dion becomes pm and can’t even communicate with other leaders. I hope Harper fills every judicial vacancy with a strong conservative in the next few weeks, and the same for the senate. Dion will be out dictating what women can run for his party. I wonder how the people of Que will react when the whole world calls them cowards, and refuses to do business with them. Alberta as an independant nation will not send them one red/green cent. Go it alone you cowards.
The suggestion to outlaw the CIA has merit, while they’re at it, get rid of the BAFF, DEA and IRS…all are costly rogue agencies that create domestic terror.
JJM & crabgrass: Hold your vitrol till late this p.m. as I am off to do Christmas shopping, which will not include anything made in Quebec.
“Diplomacy is useless if there are no consequences”
The one truth that the left is continually blind to. Just look at the UN.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that there is only one truth that the left is willfully blind to.
Mossadeq
“….Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that there is only one truth that the left is willfully blind to….”
HA…the left does not know the meaning of TRUTH!
Socialism is an ideology of LIES and wishful thinking..from the getgo to the now and for ever…socialism is an Ideology of Lies!
Got that?
…and if a liberano is talking he is following that ideology to the letter and LIEING to you.
This is the jerk who was calling for the murder of HENERY HYDE and his family while on the CONNAN O,BRIAN SHOW someone should consiter planting a pie right in baldwins big ugly mug
