    1. These senior citizens were fun. I can’t get over the fact that I saw someone in a 1929 film who was born in 1829, he said that he was 99 years old. He looked terrific. The womens’ clothing gave the era away. Not so, for the men.Their sartorial flare never went out of style! Perhaps women ought to wear suits, or jackets and jeans with a white shirt like American author Fran Lebowicz rather than the H.R.C. pant suit.

      Marc in Calgary: you say you “didn’t hear any of those folks say they’d take a chocolate bar over a silver bar.” If offered, they would’ve more than likely have taken the silver bar, in my opinion. The $ 7.70 in 1929 would be worth $111.03 in today’s money. Just say’in… The stock market hadn’t yet crashed when this was filmed, to boot.

      The people seemingly, hardly had any vices, so a chocolate bar or an apple versus a silver bar, say for example, would have not been a good choice for a second reason:

      Thanks for posting this YouTube, it’s something very sweet, I ♡ their activities, clothes and American locations, but mostly how they spoke and what they found important to say. Wonder how things will look in 100 years from now. Any guesses?

          Good question. I should’ve quoted the quantity, forgot, my bad: in answer to your question the info I quoted would be based on a, yes, Hershey bar @100 grams. Not the mega bar that the promotional guy was offering to give away. My source is the Internet. Additionally, these stats on this 100 gram Hershey bar, marketed in 1900, would be specifically the one without nuts. In 1908 Hershey’s put out the one with nuts, which, as you know would have more calories.

            If we had the equivalent in a silver bar of a 100 gr Hershey bar, that would be 3.5 oz. So at $111.03/oz, for silver, that would be $388.61….if you’d found a willing buyer for the silver and traded for cash..think you could get some steak, lobster, wine, etc and crêpes Suzettes, for that amount? Yeah? Yeah, lots of calories but mm mm….

            However, if you would just take the ” Argentum ” bar Symbol number 47 ( Ag ) Ptotons/Electrons 47, Atomic Mass 107.8682 and went to a laboratory and just cook it you’d have too many factors to consider like it’s density, molar volume, electrical resistivity, it’s thermal conductivity, it’s mass magnetic susceptibility, number of valence shells, ground state electron configuration, boiling point 2210.0°C and melting point 961.93°C not to mention the incompatibilities with other elements, acids and so on. Ah, yes. Ah no. Taste yeech, yuk! Costly dental work and pain. Nooo… no!

            The incompatibilities to man and his health if he were to ingest high concentrations of a silver compound would result in what is known as “argyria” and one’s skin would no longer have a pinkish hue but turn a blue grey color, as what happened to ” The Blue Man”, Paul Karason! Not good.

            Cash in the silver and turn on the BBQ!

      Suvorov in particular I adore.
      Solzhenitsyn always left a bad taste, he sorts of gets it but then he laments about poor russians left behind borders of other countries, he can go f*** himself and take the mother (whore) russia with him.
      The argument about not reading victor’s history is retarded though. Speaking of Eastern Europe/russia history excellent counterparts for your authors would be for example: Anthony Snyder, Richard Pipes, Norman Davies.

      2. Actually, some of those “first settlers” have serious money tucked away because of their involvement in the oil sands. And they’re not about to let their investments diminish because of a lack of markets. Look to them – and to a lot of their brethren other than the “rent a war bonnet” crowd – to start pushing for pipeways across BC. The northern group is already getting together and, responding to JT’s ban on tankers off the west coast, have figured out there’s a nearby Alaskan port which would just love the jobs. Tankers still going down the west coast, only out of Alaskan ports instead of BC’s.

    1. Actually, Armstrong was ex-U. S. Navy. He interrupted his engineering studies to serve in Korea, eventually flying jets off carriers. After he completed his service, he finished his degree and later found work as a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base.

      One reason, I understand, why he got the job was his time in Korea. During one mission, he collided with a pole and lost a large portion of a wing. He made it back to friendly territory but he had to bail out and was rescued.

      Eventually, he flew the X-15 and eventually applied to be an astronaut. His handling of Gemini 8 when one of its maneuvering thrusters malfunctioned, causing the spacecraft to start rolling, was a major factor in his being selected to command Apollo 11.
