  1. Oh look a Breitbart writer is shoehorning a narrative into his ‘story’.

    In reality, for all the nerd hate, TLJ cleaned up at the box office. I’m guessing no one saw the latest Star Wars movie for the same reason I didn’t: the premise doesn’t grab me at all, and the main actor looks not much like young Harrison Ford.

      Breitbart not responsible for that narrative, Ethan Van Scriver has been all over this for a long time. Even printing up “Soylo a Soy Wars story” shirts, as well as “Fandom Menace” shirts, and in preparation for the next movie is threatening to make “Beta Fett” shirts, unless that movie is set after RoTJ and takes place entirely in the Sarlac pit.

      Yes, TLJ may have done not bad, but it under performed at the box office, and was carried largely by being a Star Wars movie with a HUGE fanbase interested in seeing how the story played out. They are rapidly losing interest, as it is clear Disney doesn’t give a shit about the story or the fans. It is also clear that there is no story arc for the trilogy, just each person in charge making up their own shit for the movie then handing it over, in essence just treating it like a franchise rather than a continuing story. Anyone paying attention knows that the cray cray KK establishment has been insulting the fans continually, and appears not to even know the characters. Even Mark Hamill has stated that he is not playing Luke in these films, and has called his character Jake Skywalker in these films.

      But I understand you wanting to stand up for Kathleen Kennedy, the UnMedicated need to stick together.

          1. TLJ bored me to tears … it’s almost as if they took the script from the first Star Wars film … made Luke into a hot emo girl and had her do the EXACT same things. I hope the writers of that recycled SJW crap made no more than minimum wage. I literally had to FORCE myself to watch the thing to the end … just to see if the writers came up with something NEW!? … nope. SOS … with a ‘girl’. Meh.

            Remember Luke struggling with his early training, getting shot by the floating mini death star, falling down in the swamp with Yoda, struggling to lift the X-Wing and thinking it was impossible, losing those early lightsaber fights as well as his hand.

            Seriously: most of the shit people are outraged about in the new Star Wars movies are actually just features of the franchise. It may be time to come to grips with that franchise not being as great as you remember.

  2. I saw the original movie shortly after it was released and I rather liked it at the time.

    I watched it again when it was shown when the nation-wide pay-TV channels started broadcasting in early 1983. My opinion of it changed and I was quite unimpressed with it.

    I saw the third SW movie a few months after that. When it was over, my buddy and I looked at each other and wondered why we bothered.

    Since then, I haven’t paid much attention to any of the movies.

  3. The reality for the Hollywood flop in addition to the “lame excuses”, ignorance of the Hollywood Large Bureaucracy___ similar to the U.S.A. Government’s Bureaucracy ___ full of nepotism__ scratch my back __ I’ll scratch your back ___ being Weinsteined ___ such as Sally Fields dumb manager ___;–The reality is the average movie goer is now exposed to the Far Better Acting ___ than the North American coddled & expensive Poor Acting/Direction.

    The Bureaucratic Brass always falling back on “the sequel always pays” plus using the “Process”. to gather in the Suck – ers, not the Weinsteined ingenues- even this contributes– but the Stunned Investors will be wary.

    Even with English sub-titles, — now improving every day, ability to simulate English Dialogue—the acting in Films from Brazil– Spain– Scandinavia — Eastern Europe is far greater than the lame__ script writing to meet the “process” code. A Code for non-profit investing similar to Broadway in it’s skid to a Supporting Niche of willing to pay exorbitant costs.

    In closing Professional Sports stadium tickets have “Jumped the Shark”.

    Y’all remember the early Mad Men episode about; and I paraphrase ” the Smokers want to keep on Smoking Cigarettes___ They just need a good enough excuse to ignore the Health Warnings ___ Ergo! Lucky Strikes are Toasted; ____ Now in Professional Sports particularly National Football —- Sorry Kids I know you want to go to Stadium to see the Game ___ But I am not going to pay to see a bunch of Cry Baby Millionaires defiling our Flag.

    Much easier for a Dad to say & really believing this as the Truth; especially when he May have to say We just cannot afford to pay for the –Music Lessons— Horse Riding ___etc–etc–.

    1. The last movie I saw was “Wonder Woman” – it was a very good movie! I have been watching a lot of foreign mini-series on Netflix and even with the dubbing or sub-titles, they are much better than what Hollywood or the TV Stations are producing. I would like to recommend “Babylon Berlin” from Germany and “Trapped” from Iceland. The bonus is that you learn a little bit of German and Icelandic along the way!

      1. Yes, you might also enjoy “Border Town”, a Finnish production about the drug trafficking on the Border between Lapeenranta and St.Petersburg.
        Then there was “Narcos”, a production U.S. networks have been unable to even come close to in drama.

        Unfortunately, they don’t carry many Canadian masterpieces, I wonder why that is . (sarc)

  5. Anyone see “Solo”? The author of this post doesn’t actually explain why “Solo” is left wing. And why exactly is Kathleen Kennedy left-wing? Like others on this thread, I have stopped watching the Marvel big-budget films, preferring to watch a few of them for free on TV a few years later.

      I have seen Solo and it is not nearly as leftist as one suggests. It is probably the best of the recent (4) movies.
      For a SW geek there are some obnoxious, in your face, references to the original trilogy that one wonders why the f*** did they feel obliged to include. There is some explaining of things that never needed explaining like the history of Solo’s last name or the shape of the Millennium Falcon. There is a completely pointless cumbersome reference of Dart Maul that screws up SW time line. But that is for the geeks.
      For the normal viewer. The movie isn’t bad. Would it be worth watching as a space opera not set in SW universe? Yes. It is no Serenity but it is not bad. It is better than the The Farce Awakens and the The Last SJW. Yes, there are idiotic progressive themes like the Social Justice Robot (spoiler: gets killed and people clap their hands) and of course rebellion is started by people (and others) who were wronged by evil corporations. But these themes are not anywhere near as obnoxious and annoying as in The Last SJW. They can be ignored and the movie is still watchable. Verdict: much better than expected especially given how bad TFA and TLJ were.

          How old is Han when we meet him in New Hope? Ten maybe fifteen years older?
          Within those ten fifteen years Maul dies, Anakin grows up to father Luke, Luke grows up. See the problem?

    3. I agree. It would have been nice to judge for myself what the left-wing specifics are. That said, we no longer watch anything put out by Disney because you just know there will be a SocProg theme of some sort. No real entertainment, just SocProg dressed up as entertainment.

    I think it is largely viewer fatigue and tired plot lines that have hurt sales. A lot will wait till it comes out on DVD/ Netflix.

  7. I have a bit of a different view of how Disney has/is handling their purchase. I’m a bit geeky, and have read a pretty good chunk of Star Wars Expanded Universe. We’re talking authors such as Aaron Allston, Troy Denning, Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole, James Luceno, and Kevin J. Anderson…to name a few. Remarkably, some of it was quite good. The Thrawn Trilogy being very well written.

    Well, the second Disney purchased the franchise, the first order of business was to say “those previous books, yeah, not canon.” Now, that’s, obviously, a pretty rotten thing to do to authors proud of their association with Star Wars. Essentially, their work was now nothing more than fan fiction. Then, you have to take into account people like me who purchased these Star Wars products being told it is a continuation of the original Trilogy…only now it isn’t. Sorry you bought all those books…tough luck hardcore Star Wars fan. To reward you for being one of those people who pursued the story and supported the franchise…we’re pretty much saying you read nothing that has to do with our story.

    Personally speaking…the books I’m referring to are 10 times better than the schlock that they are putting out in these films. If you want an interesting and fun ride with Han Solo prior to A New Hope, pick up the books by Brian Daley. Good fun…and about how you expected Solo to come into his own.

  8. The original Star Wars movie came out when I was thirteen. Through the eyes of a 13 year old it was a really cool movie. Now that I am 53 I have no interest in sci fi fantasy movies intended for a teen aged audience. The new movie may be good/bad/indifferent I don’t know and I will never find out. I’m am just curious who all these adults who are getting all wrapped up about these movies are. Grow up already, it’s time to put away childish things!!

          As kenji hinted, yes, the reboot of SW was a blatant carbon copy of the original script, save for the emo girl sub for a “warrior” (Made me chuckle, emo girl), which is ridiculous beyond words. Oh well, looks like the feminized Oceans 8 is coming up soon too (GAG).

    2. Can’t agree. Only a year older than you. Entertainment is for escape. Nothing wrong with that. I work hard. Blue collar. I pay my bills, taxes. I am debt free and I take care of my sh*t first and foremost. I’ve got a hundred history books but sometimes I need to read some fiction. When you read about Nazis killing babies by throwing them against walls, Russian soldiers raping German teenagers by the tens of thousands, gulags, you sometimes need to escape.

      If only Marvel was not the -only- movie company that gets it. It would be nice to see a good Batman or Superman movie. Star Wars, unless they pull their heads out of their butts, is dead. The Last Jedi proves the writers haven’t got a clue who the characters are supposed to be. I expect the massive failure of Solo is down to that.

      1. There is no such thing as a good Superman film because Superman is terrible. He’s actually a total psycho in the original comics.

        1. Superman sucks because there is no character development, and no suspense possible in the stories. They slowly gave him godlike powers starting in the 70’s so there can be no worthy adversary for him. Jordan Peterson had a good lecture about this problem, where basically every story is simply somebody bad tries something bad, and God stops him, the end. The time reversal in Superman The Movie was perhaps the worst case of that. The ability to turn back time renders all the story irrelevant (and maybe eliminates a song from Cher).

    1. I lost interest in Star Wars halfway through the prequels when it became apparent that George Lucas had either lost touch, or had made the original trilogy by accident, but at least for the prequels his priority was about trying to tell a story.

      During her tenure in charge of these films, she has been pegging the audience.

I can’t help but think of Kathy Newman when Jordan Peterson was talking about the crisis with young boys and how to help them grow up, and her “But what’s in it for the women?” line. Hint, it’s not all about you bitch.

      The real problem is not leftist drivel inserted into entertainment, it is leftist drivel replacing entertainment. Like buying a box of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs cereal with a toy inside as a treat, only to find it filled with Scratchy Bland Wheat Bran instead, then hearing a report it was recalled due to contamination with mouse droppings.

  12. the ridiculousness of the fart wars story lines and depictions grated on my insistence on a portion of realism in sci fi.

    racing thru the forest a breakneck speed, avoiding the redwoods by 1/50th of a second, giant 40 story plodding mechanical beasts, and some bloke called lando carissian or whatever, (Billy D Williams(sp?) ) introduced into the plot aaaaaand apparently contributed NOTHING to the storyline, etc etc. then there was jar jar binks. did that one get excised from the DVD version?

    oh ya, all of it great effects, dazzling action, drama !! drama !!!
