She Finally Gets Noticed

Antonio “Notice Me” Zerbisias apologizes. (scroll down). The original article has also been revised, complete with editor’s note;

“a Christie-nacht screed against a single community, tantamount to hate speech,

Changed to;

“And second, a screed against a single community”

Methinks she was called into “the office”. Here’s more.
H/T to Dan Cook.

  1. Fat Tony is one of those people who deep down feels badly about themselves and makes up for it by putting on an act of superiority and looking down at others.
I find most things she writes to be offensive.
The revision brings her back into the Toronto Star fold: “a screed against a single community.” That simply isn’t allowed in Star-land, no matter how many of the jihadis are called Mohammed.

  2. McClelland got his due recognition also.
If I were him, I would be mighty worried that my employer put 2 and 2 together and decided that being mentioned in a national newspaper in that particular context was a bad, bad thing.
But thank god, I am not he.

  3. After an incident where Swastikas and the words “Die Juden” were spray-painted on the walls of lecture rooms in Berkely, and a cinder-block thrown through the window of a building where Jewish services were held, along with the message “F*** Jews”, Robert McClelland asserted that these events were not examples of antisemitism, but of “whining” by the Jew who refered to them. McClelland called him “Whineberg” and refered to his “delicate sensibilities”.
Dan Cook: “Last month alone, (Antonia) Zerbisias wrote approvingly of pen pal Robert McClelland three times..”
It always seems that there is something unpleasant scraping along just beneath the surface in her columns. Her flip invocation of the Holocaust to attack Christie Blatchford — who is fifty, a hundred times the writer Zerbisias is — has a little more context now.

  4. Fearless Leader:
“What does Pottsylvania have more than any other country? Mean! We have more mean than any other country in Europe! We must export mean.”
    — From the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

  5. Wow. She apologizes for her language, but not for referring to anyone who refuses dhimmitude as being racist/fascist/bigot, blah, blah, blah. The air must be awfully rarified way up there on that high horse.

  6. The article revision, the wording and location of the apology: I think we can call that a classic example of a begrudging apology.
Just as rudeness is a weak person’s imitation of strength, arrogance like this example is a narcissist ideologue’s imitation of civility.

  7. Speaking of hubris, any more word on whether the Star was given forewarning of the arrests beforehand (explaining their exemplary coverage) as reported here by the Canada Free Press?

(Ironically enough, I first read this at Kathy Shaidle’s Relapsed Catholic blog.)

  8. Gee, journalists attacking journalists. Can someone explain why I should care?
I don’t read her blog and I don’t read the Toronto Star. My free time is far too scarce and valuable to waste on the foolish opinions of some wing-nut lefty.

  9. Antonia Zerbisias accused Christie of a crime. It’s not a crime that should even be in the books, but it’s a crime nevertheless.
One wonders how long Antonia talked to the Star’s lawyers afterwards about the importance of avoiding defamation lawsuits.
And there’s nothing like the possibility of a lawsuit to catch the attention of management. This can’t be good for Antonia’s career.

  10. Any loser who writes for the Trudeau Star, would be unable to find their own asshole with both hands and a flashlight.
    (Rock on- Christy Blatchford!)

  11. If you go to Zerb’s original blog entry, touting her own column, you should visit the comments for a really interesting comment — from her.
When taken to task yet again for quoting anti-semites approvingly, Zerb responded cryptically:
“Finally, can we put this canard of my citing an anti-semitic website to rest?
    “This is the website:
    http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/antisemitism.html
“In late 2002, B’nai Brith, a Zionist lobby group, put out a press release implying I was anti-semitic because I cited this website in a column about 9/11 timelines.
“Ever since, people like you have used it to intimate that I am anti-Semitic.
“I would suggest that you pick up the phone and ask B’nai Brith’s Frank Diamant exactly what — and who — was behind that press release and why.
“He was honest enough to tell me.
“Would he be honest enough to tell the world?”

Frankly, I’d love to know what the heck THAT is all about. Sheesh. (PS: note her reflexive use of “Zionist” to describe a Jewish organization!)

  12. She apologizes for her language, but not for referring to anyone who refuses dhimmitude as being racist/fascist/bigot, blah, blah, blah. The air must be awfully rarified way up there on that high horse.
If I might engage in some very un-PC off-the-cuff speculation: I suspect that she finds the prospect of sharia rather alluring. Zerb is likely one of these “modern” gals who was filled with feminist orthodoxy at university but really just craves a good ol’ “1950’s homelife” with a firm male hand ruling the roost. Islam would give her a politically correct cover for being dominated by a man, but she’s still too mixed up to just up and convert, so accordingly she’s rather soft on those who would force the decision on her. The fact that the perps aren’t white just allows her to further indulge her self-loathing and wallow in politically correct pieties and “outrage”.

  13. Not to be too catty, but, looking a her picture, she’d score more under a burqa.

  14. Socialist; sure they are an angry, hateful bunch, but aren’t they entertaining? I am just glad that now we are able to inform people, warn them actually, of how close to their roots modern socialists – or social democrats as they call themselves – really are.
Somehow along the way the Socialists in this country have made being a Zionist a bad thing.

  15. sounds more like those apologies for offending the reader, not for having and expressing the sentiment.
sorry if you felt bad for me calling you a c*nt. i didn’t mean to offend you.

  16. Didn’t she used to write TV reviews in the Star Weekly (TV guide thingy)? Picture her ‘working’ on the couch with a carton of smokes and a tub of ice cream handy. Must be where she got her svelte figure…

  17. “Antonia Azerbis”(sic; on Irving’s site) rates an honourable web page and links to her articles at the Toronto Red Star from David Irving, infamous Holocaust denier.
The link to Irving’s site is from usefulwork.com who says “Azerbis” used a quote from an anonymous reader in the unmoderated comments section on his blog in an article where “Azerbis” attributed the quote to usefulwork himself.
Such is the duplicity/notoriety of “Azerbis”.

  18. The best part of that Post article is Warren Kinsella’s header picture. I think it’s divine justice that in his old age Kinsella is starting to look more and more like Preston manning. 😉
