Though I have my doubts about this poll (the last hours of the second round of the first round saw a surge of votes for P.E. “We have a great deal to learn from the Soviet Union” Trudeau that looked a whole lot like a cookie-deleting party), I’ve been asked by a couple of readers to direct you to the Calgary Grit online poll, to help send Sir John A. MacDonald over the top.

OT – Michael Brown has resigned from FEMA
Dude, that’s like so last week.
OT–Moonbats hate Bush; Bush doesn’t care.
OT – Had to cross the city today{Winnipeg}and went past S.R.C. and CBC. Normally don’t pay much attention to strikers but thanks to your “Circle of Death” call, I was chuckling and grinning for miles.
Trudeau ‘destroyed’ Canada.

That poll does seem to have a mind of it’s own. Trudeau had a couple of ‘surges’ through the previous rounds.
Being removed from the direct relief efforts was last week’s news.
Brown has resigned from FEMA. Walked the plank.
Real news, real fresh.
PET, Canada’s Gough Whitlam. But the Aussies had a Governor General with the good sense to get rid of him.
Could you imagine Ms Jean sacking Paul Martin !
Come on, Calgary Grit faked up the poll and anyone who denies it is lying or hopelessly besotted by the Liberal party. You know that PET couldn’t lose to Joe Clark just ’cause people voted that way . . .
OMG!! John A. Macdonald just had a huge surge! The poll must be fixed!
Given the competition I believe that the greatest Prime Minister is someone still in our future. That perspective gives some hope. But in the meantime the word rape in Western Canada won’t just be used to describe a type of seed farmers plant.
Chuckle. Here’s a hypothesis for you. The greatest prime minister is the one least remembered. Clearly he or she did nothing interesting. Thank god we don’t get the government we pay for.
Calgary Grit seems like a decent guy, at least as far as Liberals go.
I don’t think he rigged the earlier rounds in favour of Trudeau.
“Thank god we don’t get the government we pay for.”… thus spake Tony.
That was tongue in cheek, Tony, right? We should be demanding more for less, not less for more, which we get each time the Liberals squeak back into power like the scummy little mice they make of themselves.
Let’s put ’em up there with the gopher already!
I’m not suggesting Calgary Grit had anything at all to do with it – outside of announcing there’d be no effort to correct cheating. The first round lasted several days and voting was pretty consistant – but somehow, in the final few hours, Trudeau made a surge. Perhaps a large mailing list or website got involved and dropped in a lot of votes for Trudeau at the last minute, but it certainly looked odd.
While we were campaigning against Trudeau, at no time did I advocate anyone break the rules. I hope those who voted for him do so in the same spirit.
Sorry, but I refuse to participate in any exercise that contributes to the increasing deification of the office of Prime Minister.
If there were some effort put forth toward restoring the PM to the position of “first among equals” rather than “Maximum Leader”, I’d put in my two cents, but not on this thing.
Tongue firmly in cheek, Sentinel, flagged by the word “Chuckle” at beginning of post. Seriously though, (1) in general I want government to do that small set of things that government is actually good at, for a reasonable price, and otherwise generally keep out of the way, so an unremembered Prime Minister has some conceptual value, and (2) Sir Winston, one of the greatest Prime Ministers ever, is not unremembered 😉
OT – regarding the CBC lockout: As the lockout may drag on for quite some time, Peter Mansbridge is likely being approached by the U.S. networks. While he technically is under a long-term contract to the CBC, he is locked out (and presumably without salary) just like the rank-and-file CBC staff.
Although many readers of SDA might regard Mr. Mansbridge as unlikely to “defect” to the States – having refused such offers in the past – he does have a compelling television persona which could provide a ratings boost to ABC or NBC News in reaching their targeted audiences (which are generally more Democratic and left-wing than those of Fox News). I could see him being invited to co-anchor PBS’ “Jim Lehrer News Hour”.
If he reaches a point of being thoroughly disgusted with CBC management over the lockout, given that he’s already well into his career – and the reality that American broadcasters (even PBS) could pay substantially more than his CBC salary – this could certainly be an intriguing career move.
Keep in mind that a lot of Americans – particularly Democrats and the East Coast “establishment” – are likely to become highly enamored of Mr. Mansbridge’s style and ability.
What do you think?
You may be on to something, Tony. Hmm. If greatest PM = least-remembered, then perhaps it’d stand to reason that if hardly anyone knows Stephen Harper, as the MSM loves to claim, then he’ll become the best PM we’ve ever had. Same sort of thing as being forgotten, if you can look at it that way.
Still, at any rate, Stephen Harper will be the best PM we’ve had in generations, at the very least. You’ll see. Stephen is the most cerebral individual to grace the Canadian political landscape, ever, as far as I can tell. He’s even more so than even PET, who I believe, although of extraordinary intellect, was actually lazy and arrogant to the point that everything he said and did was right even if wrong, as far as he was concerned. Much like PMJC and PMPM.
Just to be clear- I don’t think PMJC or PMPM are all that intelligent, if that’s the impression I accidentally gave.

Why not Martin has been SACKING the Canadian Taxpayer for years.
SpaceNeedleBoy – Do you really believe we would want to discuss the employment opportunities in the US for that leftie prick Mansbridge? What a waste of time that would be.
I for one would be THRILLED if the MSM in the US hired Mansbridge. I have no idea who would replace him, but… who cares?
I for one am worried about Wendy Mesley . I have a place for her to stay if it comes to that.
I noticed the late surge for PET too in the first round, but there was no way to prove things one way or the other.
Either way, he’s finally gone now. Kudos on a well run “get out the vote” campaign.
CG, you fixed the voting in the first round. Clark beat PET fair and square – and then since you didn’t like the results, you added another round of voting. You would have continued to add rounds of voting until PET beat Clark if you had to. The fix is in.
Yep, you’re a Grit all right.
