Not everyone behaved themselves while weathering hurricane Emily.
We were Allegro Guests as well and it was great that we were able to be in the Royal Hideaway Theater. It was so sound that you could hardly hear any wind blowning. The most annoying thing was listening to a CSC reporter from Canada complaining about Allegro guests being allowed to be in the Theater. She was an embarassment to any Canadian. She and her little group of friends were complaining to a Manager at one point that the Royal Guests should have had king beds put in for them. IT was unbelievable and the poor staff did not even know how to respond to such a ridiculous request. The staff were doing the best they could and were so organized and calm. My husband and I commend the staff of both hotels and are so mad at her behavior that we want to write a letter to CBC to complain about her representation of the station. Her name was Krista something. Does anyone know of her? What do you guys think?

“… Yes, that’s her.
Just looking at her picture angers us. Even her article has nothing good to say about the hotels organization or preparation. What she did not write is that the part of the dry wall that came down was over the stage and the staff did not let people on the stage due to it not being fully secure. No one was hurt and people were not screaming. Now we are really going to write a letter about her. Thank you for the information.”

Self-centeredness appears to be the hiring mantra for all CBC commentators/journalists.
CBC is only good for 2 things – Don Cherry and hockey.
Don Cherry for PM!
Probably worked for the Librano$ at some point. That culture of entitlement becomes a way of life.
So this couple is going to write a letter to complain about a CBC reporter essentially lying in her report?
Are they from the US or something? Do they not realize the job description for CBC reporters? She’ll probably end up with a bonus.
I saw a news story where the reporter was at a Canadian airport and her story was that some guy who had returned from the hurricane in Mexico was furious with his charter airline because all he got from them were some warning calls telling him to get inland by any means possible — bus, taxi, car, whatever.
And he’s complaining about false advertising, and that the holiday wasn’t what he paid for, blah blah blah — even though the airline was just one of those “plane-that-used-to-be-a-bus” charters.
You could see that the reporter thought she had a real “airline vs. consumer” story going, but it was actually a “laughably smug urban consumer, unhappy with the forces of nature, seeks compensation” story.
It was so Toronto. Even Daniel Boone, in the face of a bear that was bigger, knew enough to act first and think later. It seems to be high enlightenment these days to do neither.
deleted.
george… please.
The bear?
This embarassement was paid for by the Taxpayers of Canada.
And to think I paid 20.00 for Kristas sevices when university.
that seems to be a bit on the low side unless you are 60. ;0
Omigod, asking for king beds to be brought into an emergency shelter?!? She didn’t even give credit to anyone for their professionalism. Apparently she needed the king bed for her king sized ego. She only graduated in ’96. Imagine her ego in 10-20 years.
Is Krista a serious journalist, or just a superficial sorority girl who got her job through “connections”.
Her CBC story omits recognizing the steadfast efforts of hotel staff, police, and other emergency personnel to keep people safe during the wicked storm. Shame on you, Krista!

The beach book for conservatives this summer is William Johnson’s just-released Stephen Harper and the Future of Canada. (And yes, we conservatives do go to the beach, and we do read books.)
Johnson’s thesis is that Stephen Harper is a Pierre Trudeau. By that he doesn’t mean a pirhouetting pro-Castro oil confiscator who has a Harry Potterish approach to rising prices (“Zap! You’re frozen”). But rather a conviction politician drawn to politics to fight for beliefs whose truth he discovered during careful introspection as a private citizen.

Being a Winnipegger I know all about Ms Erickson.
Before becoming a “journalist” she was a waitress at Wise Guys, which was the IN place to be in the 90s.
From what I’ve heard she was passed around like a joint among bouncers, VIPs and other Winnipeg “celebs”.
She was a stuck-up arrogant bitch then and I have no reason to believe she’s changed.
Apparently in high school she was worse.
Hurry up guys, she might still be single! 🙂
She should be taken out back and shot.
The fellow that was whining to the cameras about how Air Transat should have taken care of them when the big bad storm came in and ruined their holiday, was actually from the Montreal area, I believe. Although he was definitely sporting that Toronto “the world owes me” attitude. It was pathetic.
Actually, his mother – Franoise Perreault from Beaconsfield – started calling ALL the Montreal TV and radio stations the day before the hurricane hit. She was very successful in getting interviews, a poor mother worried about her son. During her interview on CJAD, she mentioned that her stranded son’s older brother was a lawyer and was already looking into suing Air Transat and that the law firm where the stranded son works also was working on something.
Looks to me like some lawyers are laying the groundwork for quite a few hundred hours of billable work and the family is in on it.
Maybe the idiot is preparing to visit a nice little war torn country next and see how much he can make out of his misadventures there.
Her behaviour was certainly a discredit to Canadians.
It makes me nervous when there is character attack with specifics however.
We are not as anonymous as we would like to think, here on the web.
If there is real money behind her, it leaves the commentor and this blogsite open to a possible problem.
I admit that naughty behaviour background is always interesting though. Can’t say I didn’t read it. 73s TG

Wow. And rightists whine about Babble. Keep setting these standards for the rest of us to emulate, people. Lower, slower, weaker.
I think that is one of the “Stepford wives” is it not? The hair, the unfurrowed brow(especially after SUCH a hectic experience)the white skin, perfect teeth and oh yes the perfect hair. Whatever will happen to these modern day clones when a real terriorist strikes Tronna maybe even the CBC?
Such a pathetic little excuse. Probably most comfortable and at home at the CBC.
And just think… in 20 years or so she can be Governor General, just like Adrienne.
Snowbunnie: you got the punch line right!
In Canada, the Prime Minister for all intents and purposes has an absolute power to make whatever executive appointments they choose. There are no checks and balances – no confirmation proceedings in the Senate and no public dialogue regarding the merits and suitability of the PM’s appointees.
The U.S. doesn’t have a precise equivalent to the GG, but all of the President’s nominees for executive offices – cabinet officers, ambassadorships, Federal judgeships, UN ambassadors – must go through the rigorous and very public Senate confirmation process.
The position of the GG is a very weak substitute for having a truly independent Executive branch headed by a nationally-elected head of state.
Speaking of CBC reporters, does anyone know what happened to Christina Lawand? She is the only reporter at CBC who pointed out that the revelations at Gomery were damaging to the Liberals, and you could see she wasn’t deterred by Papa Peter’s not so subtle displeasure at the tone of her stories. Just hearing the way she said “Peter” when she handed it back to him was great.
She hasn’t appeared lately, and over at the “CBC Personalities” part of the website, her name is not on the list, which seems odd.
EBD: Good question. Lawand was about the only one I could stomach, though she sometimes a tad too girly (read deferential) for me. But her coverage of Gomery was great, as was Jed Kahane over at CTV who also refused to roll over for CTV brass when it came to spinning his stories. Christina had a better future than a lifetime at the Mother Corpse, one would hope. Speaking of whatever happened to…Where’s Don Martin (now there’s a REAL Don…)?
EBD: She’s doing the morning traffic report in Moosejaw after that epdisode with King Peter.
If any of you bothered to look at the CBC personality page for Krista Erickson you would note that she did both Arts and Science at Winnipeg University. And it only took her one year
Whata prodigious talent!
You’ll note our little lefty troll Dawg can’t refute anything Rasky said, or give any reason why it should be considered objectionable. He just attacks his right to say it.
So, dawg, you think because you’re white that you’re entitled to tell an Indian what he may and may not say, do you? That’s instructive. Tells us a lot about you, anyway.
It’s hardly trolling to object to bringing up a person’s alleged sex life in a discussion about a comments she allegedly made that you didn’t like. And I say “alleged” because the writer, in cowardly fashion, didn’t actually allege any such thing–he “heard” it. Such “information” has no validity, and no bearing whatsoever on the matter at hand. None. Full stop.
“And she wasn’t very nice in high school, either,” or words to that effect. Good grief. Let’s add “I heard she was a mean little brat when she was three.” I mean, get a grip, man. If you don’t like something she said, then take that on by all means. But this other stuff raises (or should I say lowers) ad hominem argument to a whole new level.
I confess that I don’t understand your point about the original poster, so I can’t really say much about it. I don’t know anything about the man. Is he a Native person? If so, are you arguing that I should set different standards for him because of it? This seems kind of an odd place to be making an argument like that.
“And I say “alleged” because the writer, in cowardly fashion, didn’t actually allege any such thing–he “heard” it.”
That should have read:
“And, although I say “alleged,” the writer, in cowardly fashion, didn’t actually allege any such thing–he “heard” someone else allege it.
First of all I wuld like to say that I was there and met Krista for the first time at the Royal Hideway. What I have read is a bunch of lies! Krista, nor any other guest at the RH asked for a king size bed we all had them in our rooms which were all intact the next day. Do you think people would demand beds in a shelter? are you nuts??? These stories are so so untrue, it just sounds like a bunch of petty and jealous women as Krista is a pretty young woman. I seriously think you all have way too much time on your hands and really need to get a huge life.
Just my two sense!! The other Crista
Thank you for another side to this story, from someone who was there. It will no doubt be added to the story update in this blog, and featured in the others that have linked to this post. After all, right-wingers are honourable people.
Not only are allegations about her behaviour at the Royal Hideaway treated as fact here, but further retailing of allegations about her sex life are considered relevant to the first set of allegations.
It’s a trash-job, pure and simple. You might be right about part of the motivation here, but I suspect that it’s more likely that CBC-hatred has simply overwhelmed the SDA regulars’ ability to argue a point.
You are so right, Dawg, this country will never be set right until CBC hatred is finally exposed and defeated. It overwhelms people until they lose the ability to argue a point. It’s a pox on us all, and until we learn as a nation to overcome it, there will be no true social justice. It takes a warrior to stand up to injustice, and to take charge, and just have to thank you for doing that here. I could never thank you enough.
But you just don’t get it when it comes to open threads. The inappropriate personal comment about
Krista Erikson is typical of those who drop in, and then disappear, with a mind to to stereotyping and discrediting both a site and it’s visitors. Pseudonymous names like “western conservative” are typical.
And then inevitably, a few days later, someone with a loudly-announced sense of justice shows up on the now-dead thread to point out the previously treacherous comments, and to try to smear Kate and her visitors with them.
Well, there’s a difference between a hit-and-run and a long-haul freight delivery. Keep pretending you don’t know the difference.
Hey Crista, you were there in Mexico and you say that none of the guests asked for king-sized beds to be brought in. So nothing was said by any of the resort guests in the middle of this hurricane that you didn’t personally overhear? That sure seems like a stretch.
“But you just don’t get it when it comes to open threads. The inappropriate personal comment about

Just hold on a minute there. One second you’re telling me all about this guy, claiming he’s Indian and that therefore I shouldn’t have criticized him, and now he’s just an anonymous troll?
As for this being a dead thread, maybe it is now. I posted on it one day after it appeared. Perhaps conservative rants die young, though. I should have known by the smell.
Your last comment left me completely at sea, Dawg. I thought for a second that you had lost your mind. Then I scrolled up, and there it was…
ebt.
Dawg, I am EBD, not ebt. My pseudonymous tag was in use before I saw ebt. Needless to say, ebt’s comments come from another’s brain-pan which is not proximate to mine.
Good grief. My bad. Please accept my apologies, EBD. I’d like to blame it on faulty eyesight–which I have–but it was just carelessness. I’ll be more careful in the future.
No worries. Thanks.
Boy, I’m confused about what is true and what is not anymore here. I assumed the story was true when I made cracks about the ego. If this story was not true, my jokes about the ego needed to ask for a king bed were obviously wrong too.
“You are so right, Dawg, this country will never be set right until CBC hatred is finally exposed and defeated. It overwhelms people until they lose the ability to argue a point. ”
CBC hatred, is that referring to hatred of the CBC or by the CBC?
First let me tell you I don’t give a crap about the CBC. I live in California so I am just someone telling you people here what really happened. I know you probably hate to think outside of your negative box, but I knew every one of the guests at the RH. There was only 60 of us!! The 350 others were from other resorts. They was wide spread food poisoning that night with 4 bathrooms for 400 people. It is amazing to me that you Canadians are supposed to be so “open minded.” So…I have nothing to gain I have never watched the CBC. My point is that person staying at the Allegro lied!! I was awake all night because the area I had to sleep in flooded and there was not a spot on the floor anywhere. We had very little contact with Allegro guests, and Yes I was one of the friends she was with. Everyone at the RH that was left became friends. Take it from someone who was there. I think that some of you men are complete women haters, it is pretty frightening. And for the person that said you should “take her out back and shoot her.” Be very careful because I think that is considered a death threat.
Hatred of the CBC. I think EBD was having a little fun at my expense.
Crista, in Canada leftists find it humorous and effective to drop in on conservative/libertarian sites and post slanders under pseudonyms. It’s kind of a unionista/sabotage tactic.
Since Kate, who is on the political right in a leftist country, has an open comments section, not all pseudonymous drop-in comments are what they seem to be, if you catch my drift. Let me put it this way: if someone came by your residence at night and painted racist or sexists comments on your front door, I wouldn’t attribute them to you.
It’s nice to see another American dropping by, though. Let me give you a quick primer on Canadian politics:
Conservative = Bob Dole + Bill Clinton
Liberal = Joycelyn Elders + Noam Chomsky
NDP = Che Guevera + Sally Struthers
“Crista, in Canada leftists find it humorous and effective to drop in on conservative/libertarian sites and post slanders under pseudonyms. It’s kind of a unionista/sabotage tactic.”
You aren’t seriously arguing that the anti-Krista (now, that has a certain resonance) stuff appearing here is the work of leftist agents provocateurs? Where does that leave poor Kate who started it all?
That’s tinfoil hat stuff, EBD. You’re better than that. I think.
No,Dawg I’m not saying that the anti-Krista has arisen here — er, I’m not saying that the criticism of K.Erikson was the work of provocateurs, just that a couple of the comments — “she should be taken out back and shot” (from “Jiminy C”) seemed to be typical of the sort of comments which are of questionable provenance. But who knows, right? No one can be sure about any one instance, but you can be sure that it does happen. It’s a funny, faceless medium, this.
Yaaah! She’s a Hooo-er! Yee-hah!
Hey Average Westerner, are you making fun of Ms. Erickson or are you just mocking Westerners as it seems?
YES, I am defending her because “poor Kate” is a total Liar and it just makes me sick. The drywall did injure people I actually was helping the girl who got hit in the head!!! It didn’t fall on the stage it fell on people near the stage. Poor Kate is full of B.S. Sounds like a very jealous women to me. And for the boys(can’t call them men) here who are judging Krista based on what poor little jealous Kate has to say, they are just bummed because they probably just want to date Krista or wish they had a job that paid as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You picked a bad time to call Kate a liar. You see, this has been one of those relatively rare threads where Kate has not posted a single word of her own. Not in the piece itself, OR in the comments section . The words were from a CBC.ca national news story, and from comments on a travel board. But Kate’s a liar…hmmm. Makes you think.
And jeepers, Crista, for someone who lives in the States, you sure take the topic of Kate and her ways personally. Holy Moley, you’d think that just the sheer level of geographic remove would cool you down a bit.
Crista,
EBD is absolutely correct. You should post your concerns on the travel board page so that people know that Krista Erickson did not do what she has been reported to have done. You can post a followup to Mary and Steve. There is a link from the blog page “Not everyone behaved themselves”
OOps..sorry. I should have said Mary and Steve. They are the ones from Texas, right?? I thought it was Kate. I tried to email those people from Texas but could not find an email. I just cannot stand when people lie. My husband came home from work and read what they said and he was shocked. He doesn’t care about these kinds of things but he was even annoyed at what they had posted. I would not be wasting my time posting this especially since I have 2 little kids and am constantly chasing them. This story just really really bothered me! Just a little FYI on Krista, she is a really nice genuine person so I think it is so inappropriate to Krista bash when no one here knows her. Sounds to me like Mary got jealous because she caught Steve checking out Krista. Hmmm…
