Justthinkin? While Clarkson may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, she, at least, took her duties and responisiblities seriously. I am sitting here trying to imagine Jean spending the coming holidays with the troops overseas as Clarkson did. Hmmm, guess my imagination just don’t run that deep.

  8. Your comment about the weapons used by the unnamed French youths in their rioting included the words hunting rifles. According to what I read, the wounds suffered by the police were from buckshot.
Buckshot is the lethal big game load for shotguns, not rifles. French police should be allowed to respond in kind, or with cannons loaded with grapeshot, the cannon equivalent of buckshot. Grapeshot was an historic method of “street sweeping” in earlier times. It invariably quelled rioting mobs.

  15. Michaelle Jean’s a disgrace. I wrote her office about her disrespectful posture during the reading of the Throne Speech: ‘not even an acknowledgement of receipt, let alone a response. She acts like a self-referential teen. Typical Liberal window dressing: multicultural style minus any moral substance.
Troy Davey appears to be a Caucasian kid. And I’d imagine the rioting “youth” in Paris are Muslim. Of course, the CBC Radio news didn’t even mention “youth” until near the end of the story. The word “Muslim” never passed a lip: so much for “accuracy” in the MSM.
Most of our public schools in the Canadian part of “the West” (as in civilization) have fallen hook, line, and sinker for the “victim” scenario. Discipline is in shambles, especially if the misbehaving kids are from favoured minorities. The behaviour of some of these kids is utterly abhorrent and needs to be seen to be believed. The worse the behaviour, the more excuses are made and the more adults are hired: to do what? To appease the kids and try to wheedle them into making nice. It’s sickening to watch the perpetrators’ most depraved behaviour merit more and more pandering. (I was recently in a class with four adults to four disrespectful delinquents who played the system and the adults all day—and got away with it. The older adults were dispirited and angry at the treatment they’re expected to take: despite huge anti-bullying campaigns in our schools, assistants are routinely punched and kicked and are supposed to suck it up. Administration talks “escalating consequences”, but there usually are none. So, the vicious circle of appalling, uncivilized behaviour by a critical mass of students—too many of whom belong to favoured minorities—which degrades both themselves and those around them, continues.)
Does appeasement work? NO. My long experience, in the lion’s den, so to speak, has proven that high standards, a highly structured academic program, no excuses, and tough love are what work. So, what’s the problem? Having been thoroughly indoctrinated by the asinine dogmas of the therapeutic society, and terrified of Charter challenges—with some justification, with people like Gomery on the bench—the highly paid, ivory tower ministry and board surrender monkeys, who work at a far remove from the trenches, frown on toughness in the adults who interact with the boards’ juvenile delinquents. Tough love teachers who get real—which seems to be anything other than a rewards system (and the kids soon disdain rewards, which have diminishing returns)—are looked at askance and are accused of using a “punitive approach”, even if the so-called “punitive approach” is working! (The board motto seems to be “Punish effective teachers and reward the most egregious miscreants.” I’ve never seen teacher morale at such a low ebb.)
Re the worst behaviours our educational systems are dealing with, our politically correct, lefty ministries and boards are stuck on stupid. (So, unfortunately, are some of the younger teachers and social worker types, who’ve been indoctrinated too.) The inmates are running the asylum and, if there were any hills to run to, I’d say “Run!”
I like Kate’s idea for the Gomerys of this world. I’d like to require that non-supportive administrators spend a week in each classroom from hell: the teacher would be present in order to observe the administrators’ modelling of what they consider to be “best [make nice, no consequences] practice”. One wonders why they haven’t thought of this yet;-)

  16. Winter car-be-que season in la France again? Those, ahem, “youths” at it again, eh?
Someone at another blog I visited this morning suggested the French govt send in the Army to re-establish control of the “youth” neighborhoods. The only problem with that is that “youths” now make up 16% and rising of the French Army. There’s similar growing numbers of “youths” in militaries across much of EUrope. Consider all the implications of THAT!

  17. Clarkson also had Blue and Keith’s taste Justthinkin. I clearly remember my reaction when I heard she had been appointed GG. Great, another has been CBC hack. Her actions after being appointed totally turned that around 180 degrees. Not since Sir Julian have we had a GG that connected like that with our military. I can just imagine the consternation of the chattering class in Ottawa on New Year’s Day that there was no GG Levy to go to, because she was sitting in a tent in Afghan or Junior Ranks Mess on board anyone of a number of HMC Ships. Probably the most telling point to show how she was accepted by my fellow CF members is that I have yet to find a Patricia that disapproved of her being appointed their Honourary Colonel in Chief after Lady Patricia stepped down last year due to poor health.
Remember that the trip you are talking about was not her idea, but yet another brilliant light bulb moment of the Chretien govt. She was only being sent along as the figure head. Did I agree with the whole nonsense? Of course not, but the trip was not of her doing. Put the blame where it belongs.

  18. Chuck out these green myths
Illegal dumping is a problem that is only going to get worse as the Government continues its ham-fisted efforts to reach its recycling targets. Every time a local authority devises another punitive scheme – fining householders for the crime of failing to fulfil the evermore prescriptive rules for putting out the rubbish – it is another powerful incentive for antisocial householders to tip their rubbish under the nearest hedge. If I was the South Wales man fined recently because a single sheet of paper had found its way into the wrong recycling container I know what I would be tempted to do: deposit next week’s rubbish on the council’s doorstep.

Fancy some Islamic Sharia law with your season’s greetings this Christmas? The Indonesian province of Aceh could be just the place to spend the holidays.
Aceh, which is gradually recovering from the devastating 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, is hoping travellers who like a little law and order in their lives will come by the hundreds.
But visitors should know that Sharia police take their task of upholding the law seriously.
Drinking is banned. Adultery and gambling too. Even being in a dark place with a member of the opposite sex – if you’re not married to them – can earn offenders public canings.
Aceh, in Indonesia’s northwest, is the only province in the country to uphold Sharia law.

  20. It’s criminal what media like the BBC are doing. They take an attrocity and twist it to fit their own war against nationalism.
From the real report on the killing of the Christians by the Turkish Muslims:
“Tilman was stabbed 156 times, Necati 99 times and Ugur’s stabs were too numerous to count. They were disemboweled, and their intestines sliced up in front of their eyes. They were emasculated and watched as those body parts were destroyed. Fingers were chopped off, their noses and mouths and anuses were sliced open. Possibly the worst part was watching as their brothers were likewise tortured. Finally, their throats were sliced from ear to ear, heads practically decapitated.”
    Blood sacrifice?
“There’s one thing that uniquely differentiates the modern jihadi movement from all others: it is the bloodlust. Let me explain: the decapitation “live,” on camera, of Paul Johnson, of Nick Berg, of Daniel Pearl and of countless others is an exaltation of their raw power to kill, to be the masters of life and death.
Now, they do that in the name of God – “if God wills it,
    everything is permitted.”
The al-Qaida training manual speaks of killing enemies like of a “slaughter,” an animal sacrifice to Allah: it is human sacrifice. That’s what Mohammad Atta says in his last text. The jihadi practice is a return of human sacrifice in the 21st century.
There is a theory to all that, a theology of carnage. The Saudi clerics proudly speak of Allah and Muhammad bestowing upon the Muslims “our industry of death.”
“Killing is tantamount to saying a prayer,” states a prominent Iranian Islamist. “Islam is a religion of blood for the Infidels,” says Khomeiny himself, who never tires of the subject: he positively wallows in blood. “It is war that purifies the earth.”
They all say and repeat: “We love death more than you love life.” That’s true. That’s who they are: they love destruction alone. When they say “Death for the Cause of Allah is our most sublime belief,” they all do and they mean it.
You have the PLO assassin who shoots the Jordanian PM to death and kneels down to lap the blood; the video-cassettes that show the Algerian GIA ambushing draft soldiers are complacently showing the blood spurting from their severed carotid arteries; an Algerian intellectual whose tummy is sliced open in front of his family and his guts slowly pulled out by laughing killers. You have the Baathists of Iraq displaying corpses, cutting various fallen leaders into small pieces; the Syrian Baath giving public displays of hundreds of their victims, pour encourager les autres, a carnival of death. The Turkish Hizbollah torturing a kidnapped feminist, torturing her for 35 hours and filing it all. Why is that? We find an idolization of blood, of savagery, a cult of killing, of death. Gruesome murder is lionized and proffered as model, as pleasing to Allah, as opening the gates of Paradise for the “martyrs.” The highest religious authorities sanction it, governments condone it, approve of it, the media enthusiastically endorse it. Think of the notorious “Waiting Room of Paradise” at the Martyrs’ Cemetery of Tehran where a 14-feet high fountain of blood-like red liquid symbolizes the essence of Islam’s message, the guide says!”
    – Laurent Murawiec, a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and the author of the new book Pandora’s Boxes, The Mind of Jihad, vol. 2, the sequel to The Mind of Jihad, vol I.
Quran 8:12: Then your Lord spoke to His angels and said, “I will be with you. Give strength to the believers. I will send terror into the unbelievers’ hearts, cut off their heads and even the tips of their fingers!”
The Turkish Muslims are good Muslims, who followed the Quran and Mohammad’s life example. If they die while killing an infidel, they get the ultimate reward, direct entrance into paradise. There’s no faster, or better way to go. And your family is completely forgiven and enters paradise no matter what as well.

We have an Opposition Leader writing letters to the Govenor of Montana, An opposition Leader making demands of our government Because he(dion) says this killer of 2 young men has had his Charter of Rights Violated.

I happened to be in Turkey last year (a couple of months after the murder of a Catholic Priest by a 16 year old).
I was very surprised at how secular Turkey is – I would say that only a small percentage of Turks are very religious Muslims. They also have a real rule of law. This 16 year old (who cannot be identified – except by initials – because he is under 18) received 18 years and 10 months of hard time (and I was told that in Turkey hard time is really hard time).
The Turks who did this horrid act against these Missionaries have been caught. If they are convicted of pre-meditated murder then they will get the death sentence – which is too good for them – but at least their gone.

    Global Warming Shakedown Begins
    IBD ^ | November 27, 2007 | Editor
Climate Change: Al Gore was smiling like the proverbial cat that ate the canary following his 45-minute talk Monday with President Bush. Does he know something about U.S. global warming policy we don’t?
We hope that’s not the case. The two men refused to talk about details of their conversation. But Bush is preparing for a global conference next week in Bali, Indonesia, and we’d like to think he isn’t still swallowing Gore’s line about taking drastic action to curb greenhouse gases.
“It was a private conversation,” Gore said after the meeting. “Of course we talked about global warming . . . the whole time.”
As news accounts note, Gore was instrumental as vice president in negotiating the 1997 Kyoto Accord. But President Clinton never submitted the treaty to Congress, and Bush has steadfastly opposed costly green mandates in favor of voluntary caps on CO2 emissions.
So was Bush just being polite to his one-time political rival? Again, we hope so. But who can be sure in an atmosphere where the nonstop propaganda on global warming has become almost intolerable.
Just listen to the United Nations, which released a green-themed Human Development Report just one week before the Bali meeting. “Unless the international community agrees to cut carbon emissions by half over the next generation,” the report says (according to Reuters), “climate change is likely to cause large-scale human and economic setbacks and irreversible catastrophes.”
If that sounds terrifying, it’s meant to. But there isn’t a shred of science to back it up — only spurious “models” based on an incomplete picture of how nature and the climate work. ..-

  32. cconn,
Maybe so. However, from what I’ve been reading they are becoming more Islamic and less secular. The Prime Minister stated that with a mosque, the minarets are bayonets, the dome is a helmet, the inside are the barracks and the ummah are the soldiers. Sounds like political, supremacist Islam to me, especially coming from a top government official, who is by all accounts a devout muslim (meaning Islamist).
Regardless, of where or when, Islam is foundationally violent. In order for a muslim to be considered a good muslim they are required to do what the abrogated and violent teachings in the quran say and to follow Mohammads life in all respects.
This is the trouble with the so-called ‘religion.’ It is only a religion in order to veil its real purpose. A purpose which has been carried out by its adherents over a 1400 year period and continues furiously now, with all the oil money. The exact application of the Quran, the Sira (Mohammed’s life) and the Hadith (the Traditions of Mohammed), will result in any Muslim becoming a fascist Islamist, if not a terrorist, as Mohammad himself was.
You referred to the murder of the priest. Did you know that the mother of the 16 year old boy who killed the Catholic priest looked at the cameras as her son was going to prison and said, “he will serve time for Allah.” The hate and evil instilled by Islam is generational.
All of these recent attrocities appear to be organized attacks initiated by an unknown adult tarikat (a proudly Turkish and large Islamist club) leader. Minors are being used to commit religious murders because public sympathy for youth is strong and they face lower penalties than an adult convicted of the same crime. Even the parents of these children are in favor of the acts. (Using children to carry out attrocities sound familiar?)
Furthermore, you probably didn’t know (I didn’t, til recently) that In April 2001, the National Security Council of Turkey (Milli Guvenlik Kurulu) began to consider evangelical Christians as a threat to national security, on equal footing as Al Quaida and PKK terrorism. Statements made in the press by political leaders, columnists and commentators have fueled a hatred against missionaries who they claim bribe young people to change their religion.
After that decision in 2001, attacks and threats on churches, pastors and Christians began. Bombings, physical attacks, verbal and written abuse are only some of the ways Christians are being targetted. Most significant is the use of media propaganda.
From December 2005, after having a long meeting regarding the Christian threat, the wife of Former Prime Minister Ecevit, historian Ilber Ortayli, Professor Hasan Unsal, Politician Ahmet Tan and writer/propogandist Aytunc Altindal, each in their own profession began a campaign to bring the public’s attention to the looming threat of Christians who sought to “buy their children’s souls”. Hidden cameras in churches have taken church service footage and used it sensationally to promote fear and antagonism toward Christianity.
In an official televised response from Ankara, the Interior Minister of Turkey smirked as he spoke of the attacks on our brothers. Amid public outrage and protests against the event and in favor of freedom of religion and freedom of thought, media and official comments ring with the same message, “We hope you have learned your lesson. We do not want Christians here.”
Little wonder then that the EU is still not admitting the Armenian Holocaust purveyors into their club. And shouldn’t.

The decision to press charges has triggered diplomatic tensions between Sudan and Britain. David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, immediately summoned the Sudanese diplomat in London to the Foreign Office.
“We are surprised and disappointed by this development, and the Foreign Secretary will summon as a matter of urgency the Sudanese ambassador to discuss the matter further,” a spokesman for Gordon Brown said.

Grandmother who has brushed doorstep for 62 years told by council she could face court –
    Daily Mail – UK ^ | November 28, 2007
Grandmother Betty Davies has swept the street clean outside her house for the past 62 years without so much as raising an eyebrow.
The 88-year-old widow prides herself on keeping her front doorstep and pavement pristine.
But after one of her daily tidy-ups, a council worker knocked on the door of her home in Splott, Cardiff, to warn her she could be taken to court.
Mrs Davies was told she could be breaking litter laws and might be fined for brushing the leaves into the roadway.
Neighbours in the quiet terraced street immediately rushed to defend her and dubbed the warning “political correctness gone mad”.
The uproar forced council chiefs to climb down and assure residents they would not be fined for sweeping leaves into the road.
Mrs Davies, a retired school cook who has lived on her own since her husband Bryn died 20 years ago, was incredulous at how she had been treated.
