Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and while swapping out the desk fan for a permanent cooling system might seem like an appealing solution following this summer’s record-breaking heatwave…
… installing one without proper authorisation can carry serious repercussions. Breaching planning regulations – even unintentionally – can leave homeowners having to submit a retrospective application.
Should this be turned down, the council can issue an enforcement notice demanding the air conditioning unit be taken down. Defying this notice is illegal and, if disregarded, could lead to prosecution.
Fitting a permanent air con unit without planning permission can also have considerable implications should the homeowner decide to put the property on the market. To finalise the sale, sellers must be able to demonstrate they obtained the required approvals. Without this, homeowners will need to either lodge a retrospective application or remove the alteration entirely.
More: “Air-con engineers told The Telegraph that they had been called out to remove perfectly operational units worth thousands of pounds across London.”

Save the world – Hang an Authoritarian.
But horse whip them first.
Experienced one of these UK heatwaves in 1973. Fortunately, at end of our stay, we were booked into an airport highrise hotel that had AC. We met a Canadian businessman who was based in London for his company’s executive year abroad.
Canadian businessman: “They hate us. They all hate us here and on the continent. It’s not politics, they hate us because we have central heating and air conditioning.”
Ah, the air conditioner game.
I had a toxic landlord once who rationed the a/c. He had his home office in the basement, which was pleasantly cool. I did not complain about his hypocrisy: he was the landlord after all, and I needed a place to stay. I did not want him to know that his a/c tyranny was bothering me, so I avoided the basement. Just went down there for laundry. He was a narcissist, obviously. I did not want to add to his burdens, to complicate his journey of healing. So, I did not show him my geiger counter which showed high radiation levels down there, nor the colonies of black mold, nor the vapors from the various paints and solvents.
I suspect that people have learnt to adapt to the heat, and, more importantly, not talk about how they have gamed the a/c tyranny system. I have empathy for those suffering in the heat, but this is the way of Darwin.
My next band, the Pleasantly Cool.
By a “retrospective” application I assume they are talking about a “retroactive” application?
Must be a British thing.
Perhaps “regressive”?
Going on the other direction, I still have two working and well-maintained wood fireplaces. And what’s up with the summer in BC? I saw sun dogs today!!!
Since the tsunami of “contrails” that take forever to dissipate and form double-helix patterns that eventually turn the sky into a murky grey soup became commonplace, such phenomena have ballooned.
Other unusual events include frequent “once-in-a-lifetime” aurora borealis sightings far south of where they should be able to be seen. I have also seen many sundogs the last few winters.
And of course explainable heat intensity despite the posted temperature being reasonable.
In addition, an explosion of all-year-round “allergies” and dry eye conditions becoming commonplace.
I’m old enough to remember “winter mold” not being a thing…
The above should have said “unexplainable heat intensity”.
This is too funny. These are the same people who are mandating heat pumps. I wonder if anyone has told them that a heat pump is supposed to provide heating and cooling.
It may be that UK and Europe just don’t have the energy to power millions of AC units. Could be.
Our modern way of life is dependent on cheap abundant energy. Not rationed energy.
as they issue ‘edicts from on high’ in their . . . . . . . . air conditioned offices.
ya, its an old game. yo, britannia: YOU voooted for it. youre getting real hard, up the arse.
(pant, pant, pant, aaaaahh)
I take it that the “Heat Pumps” that the government mandates don’t include the cooling circuits that allow them to cool as well?
Here in CA … we have a little State building code statute called Title-24. Any building permit requires a complete Title-24 report which analyzes the energy use and insulation values of your home or commercial structure.
You may no longer use anything other than an electric heat pump for your building. Period. And the size of that heat pump is limited such that you can never adequately heat or cool your home … because … well … who DO YOU Americans think you are!? Better than a third worlder sweltering in the heat? How dare you.
Western Europe in general, and the UK in particular, is basically condo-board government. The government mandates everything down to the most minute detail. Trying to reno your own house (that you supposedly own) will take years, cost tens of thousands simply for paperwork, and require multiple approvals at each phase.
Karens rule Britannia.
“Condo-board government” … Perfect. Yes, our government has become a runaway HOA board. Hell, in England they’re even tearing down (“unauthorized, offensive”) English flags from the public domain.
Climate hysteria was the successful ticket to complete state control over access to energy (and life). The EU and UK are the vanguard on all of this but we are proudly gaining ground on the road to serfdom.
L – Outlawing access to the cooling that save citizens from heat exhaustion or heat stroke, during an heat wave; including deliberately raising the cost of electricity that powers fans that can do the same. Creating hell on earth. Literally, sacrificing the most vulnerable, the elderly, who die at an accelerated rate during heat waves in Britain. This to appease Gaia, the earth goddess, proves paganism didn’t die out. It infiltrated Western governments. The Druid are back. It’s methods only less dramatic than an equivalent sacrifice, by throwing virgins into volcanos, to appease the god therein.
Besides, globalist governments view the elderly not as a font of wisdom and experience, but a financial burden to government funded health care and pensions. The Canadian version is M.A.I.D. “the government will kill you now”. In Canada, it’s the native born elderly, the Canadian veterans suffering from injuries and P.T.S.D. not the immigrant community accessing M.A.I.D.
Totalitarian government loves the wealth you produce for them. When you stop doing that, you are the broke down old workhorse. Off to the glue factory for you. Salable organs are the equivalent.
Hell on earth might mean burning heat or it might freezing cold, while waiting for solar panels and windmills to save you. Paganism and its high priests or return to transcendental morality that gave birth to Western Civilization?
Failing to choose, allows those who do not have your best interest in mind to exercise the responsibility you surrender.
The road to perdition(hell) is paved with good intensions or suicidal empathy.
“broke down old workhorse.”
once again Orwell pegged it with Animal Farm. the powerful clydesdale sacrifices his health and robustness to ‘get things good again’. and what happens? hmmm? retirement or the glue factory?
“Creating hell on earth. Literally, sacrificing the most vulnerable, the elderly, who die at an accelerated rate during heat waves…”
In 1995, Chicago experienced a devastating heatwave that took the lives of 700+ residents. Most victims were elderly blacks living in street gang controlled neighborhoods. Unfortunately, the seniors were so afraid of gang violence, they wouldn’t open their windows and many died in 105°+ F temps.
The city took action. Step 1: a radio/TV campaign was started imploring family and neighbors to check on the elderly. This was done instead of cracking down on crime and arresting criminals.
Step 2: the city opened “cooling centers” at taxpayer expense without addressing the issue of crime, so of course, the most vulnerable were afraid to go these “neighbirhood” centers. Never let a grifting opportunity go to waste.
In my early childhood, Chicago residents still camped on Chicago’s beaches during heatwaves. This had been done for decades until policing and prosecution became a thing of the past and beach camping became an invitation to crime, to violence.
There is a technical fix. Swap out that government for one that looks after its citizens’ interests.
holy hannah; theyre actually *physically dismantling* what the citizenry have built.
there’s a shocking symbolism there.
