In this day and age when prospective employers run social media searches on applicants, how hard could the discovery of this man’s hateful tweets be? It seems like what should have been a fairly academic and routine search exercise by the great bureaucracy in the Foreign Service was either avoided or ignored. Or worse, was deliberately withheld from their glowing reports to the PM and relevant ministers. Maybe the great leaders (of both parties we are constantly reminded) were not informed by parties sympathetic to Islamic grievances within the Foreign Service itself? Perhaps that angle should be explored. Never mind.
You’ve hit on it squarely. Most politicians get their information and advice from underlings and/or the bureaucracy, both of which are often incompetent or hate the regular folk they are supposed to serving, or both.
And none of them get fired, or even disciplined.

The funny thing is that as soon as he arrived in the UK Egypt revoked his Egyptian citizenship so the UK is basically now stuck with him.

Yes, well. Sir Keir thinks that because he has a nominally Jewish wife he is excused from any real accountability, because he thinks the Israelis would have to give him and his lovely wife political asylum no matter what.

What are you talking about? This is the caliber of immigrants (and voters) the UK has been importing for years. “Alaa’s case has been a top priority for my government…” No doubt. Such a great addition to the UK, I’m glad they have their priorities straight.
