‘The war on coal is over’: Environmental Protection Agency to repeal Clean Power Plan
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt told coal miners in Kentucky on Monday that he will move to repeal a rule limiting greenhouse-gas emissions from existing power plants, assuring them, “The war against coal is over.”
Meanwhile in Canada….

Meanwhile in Canada the war against energy resource development is escalating. Progressive politicians will not rest until Canada emulates the economics and politics of Venezuela.
Now, all the Coal plants in the US need to do to survive is compete with NG. The miners are likely in better shape as they can export Coal to Germany where it will be used as replacement power for Nuclear, which according to EU Green scripture, is passe’. Can US Coal compete with Russian Gas, is the next question.
that might mean that the many CTL plants that were cancelled when Obama was in power can again do the studies for economic viability. Burning coal, isn’t the only way to use it.
I think Germany burns wood pellets from ontario hardwood forests stripped near thunder bay
Much of the damage is already done. It would make sense for Virginia to open up a coal-fired generating station and export their electricity to renewable energy states as a “base-load” supplier. Throw in some FED financing and Virginia could have a rocking economy.

What coal power exporting states SHOULD do, is setup Quebec style upper Churchill power contracts with their neighbors. Anyone who built wind and shut down reliable generation gets to pay people who had the foresight to keep reliable generation. Pay. A LOT. For a very long time.
“New York, you are shifting your coal pollution to Virginia. Virginia has decided that you shall pay a surcharge of $12 per kilowatt hour to Virginia. In perpetuity. For every kWhr you buy from Virginia…”
If I could still buy it, I would use it. Very good fuel, and burns rather clean compared to dark poplar.
I notice this is just a recasting of the AP story that ran in the print edition of the Post this morning. The WAPO version shown here leaves out a couple of the more risible statements, but I notice it ends with the same quote, which in the original AP story was attributed to “Sierra Club spokesman Michael Greenstone”, who in this story has morphed into “Michael Greenstone, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago.”
Restricting “greenhouse gasses” – aka Co2 – has nothing to do with “clean” power. This is just another twisting of the language and meanings of words to DUPE a gullible public. Co2 is NOT a pollutant. THAT is the ultimate correction that needs to be made to the EPA. To STOP defining Co2 as a “pollutant”. The US SUPREME COURT relies on the “expertise” of the EPA in defining Co2 as a “dangerous pollutant” thus allowing PUNISHMENT of anyone or any corporation that “pollutes” the American environment.
I will happily post another … So.much.winning. … almost.tired.of.all.the.winning. WINNING!
I am a big fan of Mark Steyn. In a speech to Hillsdale college, he stated that
when the price of oil went up, the American stock market went down and in Canada,
it went up. Cheap and abundant energy is the life’s blood of industry. Between
Carter and Clinton, we were forced to purchase crude oil from abroad.
High energy costs are the primary factor for companies moving their plants to other
countries. Add to that taxes, regulations, and mandates. I am happy to see the
Trump administration taking a chainsaw to the Democrat-imposed job-killing machine!
I only hope the voters in Canada can kick that pot smoking twerp out of office in the
next election and get a leader like Trump. I’m sure he would not mind it a bit if
someone ripped off Trump’s campaign “Make Canada great again!”
I heard that we are importing wood pellets from Europe! Gotta keep trading stuff to earn the kickbacks!
“Now, all the Coal plants in the US need to do to survive is compete with NG”
That’s not happening. Repealing the Clean Power Act whatever is great, but coal is toast. Fracking has seen to that. Even if it make a comeback, the coal jobs are gone too. Just not needed anymore.
“only hope the voters in Canada can kick that pot smoking twerp out of office in the next election and get a leader like Trump. ”
Canadians can be stupid, but probably not that stupid. The US can keep the distinction of electing a mentally ill clown for prez.
“…Canadians can be stupid, but probably not that stupid. The US can keep the distinction of electing a mentally ill clown for prez…”
That is not nice to talk that way about Obama.
Don’t play with trolls.
“…The US can keep the distinction of electing a mentally ill clown for prez.”
Because we don’t elect a President. But we elected Gerald Butts’ idiot puppet to the office of Prime Minister, so we have just as much reason to be ashamed as the U.S.A.for electing Obama, and just as much reason to hope for the kind of upheaval the U.S.A. is getting from President Trump.
Well said.
As bad as things are, we are still better off than the current condition of the US. Trump is probably senile Trudeau is not, airhead that me may be.
Once again: whatever ‘war on coal’ Obama was waging had a minuscule effect compared to that by fracking.
As Lance said, you are a troll
Little known fact: America still produces a lot of coal. It hasn’t declined much at all. A lot of the job losses are due to productivity increases (automation) much like manufacturing.
As far as coal energy production, the previous government did very little compared to what fracking did. Itd wuite simple, the game has changed permanently and coal really isnt a good way to produce power.
“coal really isn’t a good way to produce power.”
Then he asks, why are there something like 1,700 coal fired power plants being planned or constructed around the world while we speak? I suspect the word you’re looking for is cheap and predictable cost.
I’d guess that they don’t have access to natural gas yet or perhaps lack any pollution laws whatsoever.
