  2. Well … the good news is that the ChiCom censors won’t mangle the ‘true artistry’ of Hollywood fare. Now Hollywood can go back to forcefeeding their perverted messages to the Free World … where we simply ignore and boycott them. We didn’t censor the Disney DEI remake of Snow WHITE … we simply ignored it.

I used to be a big moviegoer, but the crap that’s been coming out for the past number of years, plus the excessive pricing of tickets and popcorn/drinks has reduced my cinema visits to perhaps once a year. Perhaps China’s move (and I agree with Edward above that pirated copies of movies will likely still get to China) will nudge Hollywood into making good movies? Follow the money!

    1. the tipping point for me was the refreshement vendor demanded to put that severely salty garnish on the popcorn which naturally must be washed down with the $8 diluted cola.

    Now, the movie studios won’t have China to unload their bombs. They will have to rely on the appeal of their output to American public.

      gobs of it. and a nifty gadget called VCD, a CD containing video format. movies would be editted to fit on 2 disks. priced about $8 U.S. iirc.

  9. Hilarious. But the tariffs on Chinese goods will do enormous damage to the American economy. There’s no immediate replacement for many of those goods, so US companies will have to swallow the extra cost or shut their doors.

        Believe it or not there are worse parts than those that come from China and those parts are coming from INDIA! Mevotech TTX once the stalwart in heavy duty steering and suspension parts, has moved manufacturing to India, I had a set of ball joints wear out in 4 months! They used to be manufactured in North America, then went to China, now India. It is getting harder to get quality spares to repair things nowadays. I’ll take Mexico over China made parts, but China is better than India, I’m seeing brake pads, suspension and steering parts etc etc coming from India now and they are complete garbage! If I can, I will look up/at the country of manufacture and prioritize which one i buy parts from.

        There is a company that makes ball joints in a small town in Alberta. They only have a few applications, mostly larger diesel trucks and are expensive, $1000/4 but they are adjustable, when they get loose you can tighten them up, are greaseable and also rebuildable, in-situ!

        2. I had a valve cover oil leak in my 335i which I repaired myself … because my brother was a top quality mechanic and taught me the trade. The valve cover is plastic which needs to be replaced with the gasket.

          O.M.G. the number and variety of CHEAP CRAP on the marketplace from China, Mexico, India … was seriously depressing. I went with the OEM made in Germany … well I think in Poland or somewhere under the supervision and quality control of BMW. I didn’t mind paying the significantly higher price for the quality and reliability. I can’t imagine tearing the top of my engine apart … only to install cheap Chinese crap

        I am seeing new cardboard displays in the supermarkets and hearing new ads on the radio about how “Canadian” various companies are, as they seek to exploit this dispute for short-term financial gain. Every time I hear someone mention “fighting” or “standing up to” Donald Trump, I ask them to detail specifically how they think we could possibly do that without hurting ourselves *ten times* worse…and I just get glared at or accused of being a “Trump lover”. I then smile and say, “Okay, I accept your surrender”. They REALLY hate that. 🙂

        Perhaps someone here would care to take a stab at it? Tell me how the 17% of the US economy that relies on Canada can somehow be leveraged against the 78% of our Canadian economy that depends on them., in a way that allows Canada to come out on top. Please…I’m all ears…

  10. Most of the consumer junk on Amazon from China I am sure I could live without. Walmart will take a hit for sure. Everything they sell is Chinese. My opinion. Not so enormous.

      I buy as little Chinese stuff as possible, and have for years. Zero food products….I don’t care how cheap they are.
