What happened in 2024 to RCP is emblematic of wider failures in data journalism, which has now turned in three straight cycles of obscene misses. Although problems in polling have been lavishly, even excessively covered, failures are inevitably presented as a Scooby-Doo whodunit, rooted in a magic invisibility power apparently unique to Trump voters. “If Trump outperforms the polls once again,” the Atlantic concluded this August, “something about his supporters remains a mystery.”
But it’s no mystery. The polling problem in America looks like good-old-fashioned lying, mixed with dollops of censorship and manipulation:
Trump’s popularity continues to confound leftists. So reviled is he (by them) that they simply can’t imagine any sane person voting for him. It’s beyond their comprehension. I think that is part of the polling conundrum. They don’t believe their own numbers.
People know something is wrong and it continues to go wrong. They are looking for change and know the Bush’s, Clinton’s, Obama Biden/kameltoe aren’t the answer.
Trump is the ultimate entertainer. He can read the audience and he’s giving them what they want. Maybe a course correction is taking place and Trump is the catalyst? The electorate have delivered him a powerful mandate.
Polling is the art of getting your client the answer they asked for. It’s no longer about measuring opinion so much as directing it.
The betting sites where people put their money where their mouth is are much better at it.
Actually that’s true for all consultants. All of them are hired to produce the answer the client wants. Truth is irrelevant; it’s only about the product and whether or not it meets the client’s needs. Pollsters are no different than any other consultant.

The esteemed journalists who were in tears after Trump won are the idiots who don’t even realize what they’re doing, they are the most hilarious.
Pollsters, Wikipedia, Scientific American, academia, teachers etc. all contribute to this idiocy very effectively because a complete airhead got millions of votes – all these captured institutions need to be thoroughly thrashed, the idiots need to be ruined personally, their reputations, their finances, and in some cases their freedoms.
