  1. I hope the average guy or gal knows that in many parts of the USA and Canada, the only way we’ll find out if renewable energy is practical is after a cold spell or a heat wave, and when we’re counting the bodies. I’m anxious to see who’ll take the responsibility.

  2. Thanks for the interesting link. Big ego wankers ….. very smart but very academic ivory tower wankers …. arguing about the future of power generation. (Where have I seen that something similar on a related topic?)
I happen to fall into the group who says we need the “biggest tool box possible”, which includes nuclear power. (And I really hate those windmills which are a blight on the landscape and kill millions of birds.)
But all this aside, it’s a good thing that they are looking closely at the issues which will affect us all.
P.S. I also got a good laugh at this quote: “When you call a plumber to fix a leak, you want her to arrive with a full toolbox and not leave most of her tools at home,”. I’m surprised that the pronoun Xe was not used.
And thanks also to Sask Watch. I found that video interesting as well.

  4. Anti-Trump Hate Map
The Anti-Trump Hate Map is an ongoing project of American Renaissance that displays criminal incidents in which Trump supporters were targeted for political reasons. Each marker on the map shows the location of an anti-Trump hate crime. Clicking on a marker opens a brief overview of the case. Red markers signify violent crimes; blue markers, property crimes; purple markers, “other” crimes.

  5. We still do not have anything resembling the truth about this collision. Huge ship on autopilot in a busy shipping channel and no one on the bridge?? Really!?? And it malfunctioned? Really? And the navy ship, equipped with state of art radars and sonars and no human lookout didn’t see a giant container ship…. really?? I suspect we will never hear the truth.

I studied renewable energy systems for my last 2 graduate degrees. One thing that I found was that there are limits to what RE can do. For example, I looked at using a system to power a commercial greenhouse and found it wasn’t economically feasible due to the load demand and its 24-hour operating cycle.
In the paper I was reading, the original study was criticized for relying on power generation and energy management technologies that either don’t exist or, if they do, haven’t been proven.
On the other hand, the RE systems I examined were based on commercially-available, off-the-shelf hardware.
Despite the optimism expressed in conventional nuclear power, it also has major drawbacks aside from how to manage the waste that’s produced. An acquaintance of mine used to work in the business. He mentioned to me at one time that a typical nuclear power system requires about 20 years from the initial concept to final commissioning. Much of that time is spent in complying with various laws and regulations that a plant would have to comply with. And, yes, many forests have to be devastated in order to produce the paper that’s needed for all the documents.
It’s also expensive and there have been quality control issues. This is what happened to one major producer of nuclear power systems:

I read a different article about it and the events that resulted in Westinghouse’s bankruptcy were scandalous, including incidents which involved defective hardware and the subsequent alteration of documents.
Meanwhile, ITER continues to be a scientific boondoggle, behind schedule and over budget.

New Study Confirms Global Warming Hiatus Is Real and Climate Models Failed
    http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/19/take-a-look-at-the-new-consensus-on-global-warming/
A scientific consensus has emerged among top mainstream climate scientists that “skeptics” or “lukewarmers” were not long ago derided for suggesting — there was a nearly two-decade long “hiatus” in global warming that climate models failed to accurately predict or replicate.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said Wednesday that neither the FBI nor any other government agency contacted her about the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s computer networks.
“If the FBI or any other government agency ever came to me with that information, I would have gladly welcomed their help,” she said. “In fact, back in March, former FBI Director Jim Comey testified that he wished he had personally done more to notify the DNC of the Russian intrusion.”

  11. there will be bodies. starting with the old and frail and very young.
just like in Californicate when they had their man-made brownouts. (google ‘Enron’)
there will be congealed blood on the hands of the nambypamy enviro set who no doubt will blame the situation on ‘the man’. Lieberals naturally will pontificate and spew platitudes from their secret air conditioned quarters.

  12. took another gander at mr moore’s ‘roger and me’. interesting how additional messages came out between the lines.
like the *former* GM worker whining about how the union leadership was ‘too close’ to management. voicing the ‘them vs us’ mentality. in the face of a time when some unions got members on the board of directors via stocks owned by the union or whatever it was. and benefits that included company shares after a certain period of time.
but, ‘them vs us’ all the way there mr UAW eh?
then the clip about the fast food manager who laid off ALL the former GM workers because they couldnt keep up with the frenetic pace having put their entire working life in on the assembly line before that.
and the entitlement mentality that permeated the film. aka ‘we are the ones that got the automotive industry started therefor the automotive industry OWES us a job *indefinitely*’.
and here’s the biggie: roger smith was right. HE saw the GM bankruptcy coming way ahead. it was correct to shut down numerous plants and lay off 10s of thousands of workers. it just might have been the ‘edge’ necessary to squeak by when the shyt hit the fan.
also, no mention *whatsoever* of the issue of LOWER level of productivity of GM vs Ford for instance:
