  1. He’s going to have allot of resistance from Nutley, Turdeau and Quebec – as far as their concerned, nobody f*cks with Saudi Oil, the EU, the UN, or James Cameron – NOBODY!

  2. We produce a lot of raw resources. If the US is going back into a growth mindset, they will need raw resources. They have a lot of their own, and they will use them, but they will also be willing to buy from friends. Notwithstanding the current PM and ruling party, Canada has always been a close friend / little brother to the USA.
A side note Kate, I don’t know if you can provide feedback to the captcha supplier, but the bots are starting to break in ever since the captcha switched from house numbers to signs. If they would pay you to advertise I wouldn’t mind, and might click the links now and then, but these spammers don’t even have that much decency.

  3. But, but how could Trump do ANYTHING that would help Canada. Trump is going to blow up the world and he’s empowering racists and misogynists and generally horrible people to commit “tens of thousands” of crimes daily against minorities. At least that’s what a friend of one of my Canadian Facebook friends wrote me.
90% of my Canadian Facebook friends, even those who are nominally conservative in nature, are in a state of the vapors about the election results. The same goes for friends in Australia and other countries. The US MSM filters everything, and of course the CBC, BBC et al filter, twist and distort it that much further.
Some of my Canadian relatives are noticing a recent increase in anti-American comments, annoying especially when kids with American grandparents are subjected to it. Of course, that’s long been the only acceptable form of “hate speech” and hopefully it will subside to the usual passive-aggressive slurs after a time.

  4. I think Alberta may be considered toxic & most of their Oil (US based) industry will need to be coaxed to remain. The Province of Saskatchewan is a safe investment zone, but most will head south to OPEN Trump land…..
Who will be the Trump Czar of Energy… Palin?? How did the CBC/CTV media treat her?

  5. Not with our current federal government. They are ideologically opposed to fossil fuel energy. They’ll throw up as many roadblocks as possible to prevent a resurgence of blue collar jobs being created in the oilfield. Sometimes it seems that putting western oil workers and coal miners on the unemployment line is their goal. Apparently, they and the rest of the chattering class think an income tax cut will somehow help people who no longer have an income. “Let them eat income tax cuts”
The real benefit of an American drill baby drill policy might be that there won’t be enough oil wokers in the US and theyll need to import skilled, experienced energy workers from western Canada. What’s Trump’s policy on temporary foreign workers visas?

  6. The column only touches on one aspect that is good for Cdn o&g. There are also these:
    1. The end of the Iran “treaty” putting Iranian oil production on a backward slide
    2. The end of carbon regulation
    3. The end of planned increases to Cafe standards – Meaning Americans won’t be forced to by more fuel efficient cars
    4. The end of support for evs – see point 3.

  7. We already import more OIL from CANADA than all OPEC nations combined
    http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_move_impcus_a2_nus_ep00_im0_mbbl_m.htm
And nearly HALF of our non-OPEC OIL comes from CANADA
I still remember sitting in gas lines in the late 1970’s, just to finally get to the pump and be told that the gasoline had run out. I want to CRUSH OPEC. I want Saudi Arabia to CHOKE on their own OIL.
No more conflict Oil for America
No more Socialist Oil for America (well, Canada is only “close” to Socialism)
MORE MORE MORE Canada OIL !!!

  8. If Trump really wanted to make a difference, he would bring forward legislation that would make the EPA more accountable to both congress and the American people.
Probably won’t happen. Presidents enjoy the power they can deploy through the EPA.

  9. DB: If Trump is such a misogynists, how do your friends explain why 53% of white female voters cast a ballot for him?
Of course they don’t know that as CBC somehow failed to point it out.
You are absolutely right about an increase in viral anti-Americanism about to get much, much worse. Listen to snide remarks from relatives, neighbours, so-workers; the one form of bigotry liberals in the great white north can engage in. While kept dampened down with a President like Obama, there is no tendency whatsoever to do so for Republicans. Just listen to how people spit out his name in one mangled syllable. “Donald trump”, not President-elect or Mr. Trump. It will be a long 4 years.

  10. The Trudeau Government has an Achilles heel. It’s military spending.
Expect a Trump Administration to give the Trudeau Government a choice between trade and military spending.
Canada spends about 1% of GDP on the military. It needs to spend 2% of GDP on its military to meet its NATO commitment.
Expect a Trump Administration to see this as a non-negotiable requirement for trade concessions.
The Trudeau Government will need to reorder its priorities to meet the extra $15 billion or more to hit the 2% of GDP target.

  11. “but they will also be willing to buy from friends. Notwithstanding the current PM and ruling party, Canada has always been a close friend / little brother to the USA.”
Not really, for most of the last 60 years,Canada has been a “friend” to the USA for about a third of that period, most of the Trudeau-Chretien era we were markedly anti-American,and since Justin’s election are once again.
Trump should be made to realize that any help he gives to Trudeau will come back to bite him on the ass in four years. Trudeau and all Liberals,NDP and the MSM have been absolutely hateful in their disdain for Trump, sometimes even worse than the DNC or American media.
Should the Canadian economy improve due to oil sales to the USA, trust the msm up here to NOT mention a word of Trump’s part, but praise Justin Trudeau as the economic messiah who saved us from Harper.
Get your Country in order,President Trump, but remember that right now you are dealing with the enemy of your administration in the Liberal government of Canada. North Korea is probably as kindly disposed toward America as Canada is now.
Let Canada hit rock bottom, we will try to boot the Liberals out, then maybe you can negotiate with a more friendly bunch in Ottawa.

  12. Fracking has changed the oil industry for the next 100 years. This sudden availability of massive supplies of previously unrecoverable oil on AMERICAN SOIL has changed the game. American oilmen (and women) invest a lot of money into their industry. Why would they choose Alberta over America?

  13. 1965 – at the height of the Vietnam War, Prime Minister Lester Pearson visited President Lyndon Johnson at the White House. Pearson gave a scathing speech one night about the war, then appeared at the White House the next day to confront a livid Johnson. As Martin describes it, LBJ grabbed Pearson by the shirt collar, lifted the prime minister off the floor and shouted, “You pissed on my rug!”
After that, Pearson was pnged.(persona non grata)

  14. I’ve never heard this story. I’m not saying it’s not true I question it as Pearson was a career diplomat before he entered politics. It seems incredible to me that he would make a speech knocking US involvement in Vietnam and then be meeting with the President.
What is the source of this story?

  15. Huh ? So my EPA employees don’t like the new BOSS ? So the EPA employees don’t want to DO what the other HALF of America wants ? (actually MORE like 75% of America who believe that Global Warming is bullcrappy)… Let me suggest they might prefer a job change. Whether they WANT one or not. I am PRAYING that pres. DT finds a real BADAZZ to head the EPA. And clean out the deadwood and the obstructionists. Clean out EVERYONE currently “working” on Co2 as a pollutant. Gone. Fired. Don’t let the door hit you in the ASS !

  16. U.S. EPA employees were in tears.
Awww, shucks. A group hug please.
    OK Enough hugging. Move on.

  17. http://www.cbc.ca/canadaus/pms_presidents1.html
I’ve heard this story quoted by many sources, including the one here from CBC at the link. Author of the book in which the episode was said to have happened was Lawrence Martin.
Personally,I’d have like to do a lot worse to Pearson for his destruction of our real flag,to be replaced by the Liberal Red Rag.

  18. PRAYING that pres. DT finds a real BADAZZ to head the EPA.
Liberals are in such disbelief/shock on Myron Ebell appointment for EPA transition
In September 2016, candidate Donald Trump announced his intention to appoint Myron Ebell to lead his administration’s transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency. Ebell currently serves as the director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the libertarian think tank the Competitive Enterprise Institute. He also chairs an initiative named the Cooler Heads Coalition, which, according to Ebell’s official bio:
…comprises over two dozen non-profit groups in this country and abroad that question global warming alarmism and oppose energy rationing policies.
Ebell openly declares himself to be a climate change skeptic who disputes the severity of human activity on Earth’s climate. On this point, Ebell has been extremely consistent: He argues that anthropogenic global warming, if it happens at all, is a minor issue that has been usurped by liberals to expand the federal government. He has stated in many different venues that he intends to dismantle the scientific consensus around anthropogenic global warming, as discussed in this October 23 2012 interview with PBS Frontline’s John Hockenberry:
EBELL: […] What we’re fighting is the expansion of government. And there are many pretexts for expanding government.
HOCKENBERRY: Opposing government action on climate change to defend American freedom is a perfect fit.
EBELL: We felt that if you concede the science is settled and that there’s a consensus, you cannot— the moral high ground has been ceded to the alarmists.
HOCKENBERRY: So you had to go to work and break down this consensus.
EBELL: Yes. And we did it because we believed that the consensus was phony. We believed that the so-called global warming consensus was not based on science, but was a political consensus, which included a number of scientists.

  19. “… If Trump is such a misogynists, how do your friends explain why 53% of white female voters cast a ballot for him? …”
Martin, why bother asking that? You know their answer would be RAAACISSM!!!

  20. Nobody sought employment at the EPA because they wanted to do what their employer asked them to do. They went there because they wanted to make their employer – the U.S. Government – to do what they told it to do.

  21. Granted that would be the answer, but the logic doesn’t quite hold up.
Even I was shocked at the number because I read reams of analysis that Trump had practically zero appeal among white women. Seems a lot of them weren’t being truthful.
Along these same lines, if Trump received about 63m votes, are there really enough rural, uneducated, working class, white, male, buffoon voters to make up the total? Logically no, but chattering liberal heads don’t really connect with logic very often.

  22. Why would they choose Alberta over America?
Mostly because of the dollar advantage. And as long as Justin is in Ottawa and Cuba, the dollar will drop!!

  23. Mike Pearson was, I think a decent man.
According to an account by I believe Conrad Black his Nobel prize came about quite by accident. Not exactly unearned but perhaps it wasn’t as glorious as the press would have us believe. It had something to do with the Suez crisis. It is reported that Pearson came up with a compromise but in reality he was a messenger – or something along those lines. Maybe someone knows the exact story and could relate it here.
As for LBJ grabbing him by the shirt and hoisting him off his feet….well I could believe that the Texan LGJ could do it. It just seems far fetched.
The goings on in the White House are far fetched though. It was widely reported in WH circles the LBJ referred to his ah, well to his ah, appendage as jumbo. An enthusiastic stick man well before clinton era.

  24. old business adage, deplete your completions source before your own. Then you can sell yours when the price rises!

  25. Did LBJ really grab Lester Pearson and talk about urine and carpets? This account is not definitive, but it does seem plausible, yes, that this encounter actually occurred.
    https://yvesengler.com/2016/03/15/why-does-mainstream-keep-repeating-lies-about-lester-pearson/
Perhaps we could get the new incoming U.S. President to do a re-enactment with Junior in the role of Pearson. Then there probably would be a considerable quantity of urine on the rug.

  26. Just juxtaposing here.
Justin Zoolander has a similar experience to Chris Matthews hearing the president speak.
But instead of a thrill going up his leg all Justin felt was a tinkle running down his leg.

  27. Love Trumps choice for new EPA head. Maybe we’ll see Mann go from Penn State to the state pen where he belongs. Just wonder how long it will be before Canadians realize that “climate change” is simply a globalist ruse to bring in world government in which no “deplorables” are welcome.
I think it’s time that Canadians start using tactics of the statists against them. Rioting in the streets carring signs saying “he’s not my prime minister” and burning Turdeau in effigy should become commonplace events. Seeing that some US states are threatening to secede or join Canada, then I propose that the interior of BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan secede from Canada and join like thinking people in the states just south of them. BC already is overrun with moonbats on the coast and the prospect of adding the moonbat populations of WA, OR and CA is horrendous to contemplate.

  28. Just wonder how long it will be before Canadians realize that “climate change” is simply a globalist ruse to bring in world government in which no “deplorables” are welcome.
The ones who haven’t figured that out by now will never clue in to the reality. A lot of LibArts ‘educated’ libtards don’t actually think for themselves. Their opinions are mostly influenced by the propaganda their farcebook friends parrot. They only see the ‘news’ that validates their preconceived notions, and ignore anything else as fraudulent. Just look at how easily they were fooled into electing a substitute drama teacher with a famous father as PM. Having computers available only allows them to make mistakes ten times faster than they ever could before.

  29. According to Conrad Black’s “Flight of the Eagle”, Secretary of State Dulles approached Pearson and basically ordered him to suggest a Peacekeeping force to intervene in the Suez crisis. It was never Pearson’s idea.

  30. Ralph thanks for that.
I also seem to recall that Pearson was an accomplished boxer in his youth. Many young guys were in those days including tommy douglas. Pearson mighta drilled LBJ if he grabbed him and roughed him up. Now that would be a story!

  31. Well, this college degreed white woman and about 95% of my female golf pals voted for Trump because we know the country needs an adult at the helm. We’ve all been in business for decades and have seen the devastation left wing policy wreaks on large and small business. His biggest drawback is the taint of right coast elitism. Let’s see if he can redeem himself.

  32. I disagree. In the refining business, 2 rules are followed: Buy the lowest cost inputs you can, so you can compete on price, is. Also, for crucial inputs, consider security of supply when making long-term buying arrangements. With respect to oil, this has lead all refiners to own their own reserves, which solves both problems. Depleting competitors really has nothing to do with maximizing profit.
