  2. I hate to point this out, but a lot of Musk’s plans for the architecture already exist. Open source social networking software based on individually operated nodes that can communicate via an open protocol has existed for like ten years. Mastodon is just one of them. It’s never caught on because almost all of them are written in Ruby, which is an absolute sh*t ecosystem; and because people want their free sh*t and aren’t willing to pay for the service.

    Musk cannot remove advertising from Twitter or it’ll implode overnight; keeping the servers running is a fantastically expensive cost. If Sundance is right, even the advertising doesn’t matter; Twitter is supported by government cash. Musk may find out that even if he succeeds in taking that black bag op away from the Deep State, he can’t afford to operate it without them.
