Sparky Car Confusion

Does the government want Canadians to buy more EVs or not? The way to encourage people to adopt a particular technology is to allow them to source it as cheaply as possible. But the ultimate goal in this case seems to be nearly the opposite: Canadians are supposed to buy EVs at whatever price Canadian automakers and their unions demand, and in similar quantities to a much lower price point. Good luck with that.

Federal Industry Minister Mélanie Joly has also voiced opposition to the plan to ship cars in kits to Ontario, but the federal government has revealed little about how its plan for China to ship 49,000 electric vehicles to Canada at a 6.1 per cent duty rate will work, including who will choose which models are sent.

  1. Short on intelligence, morals and responsibility. “Details?” “I don’t need no stinkin’ details”.

    1. Joly isn’t competent to manage a Tim Hortons shop. Why the fook she is in politics making important decisions and in charge of any part of the government is beyond me.
She almost makes Skippy Trudeau look smart & competent. Note I said ALMOST;-)

  2. Can we apply a surcharge to these chinese made vehicles to put into a fund to make the Nortel pensioners whole?

After all they probably include technology from Huawei.

  3. It’s just a means to make us a province of China. Marx Carnage is proving to be nothing more than a CCP agent.

“How would I describe LieBrano PM Carnage Carney?” Let me know if I missed anything: Narcissist, liar, incompetent, corrupt, virtue signaler, hollow, shallow, a fake divisive snake, weasel, clown, tyrant, despicable, insufferable, manipulative, deceptive, self-serving, arrogant, vindictive, conniving, egotistical, ruthless, opportunistic, disingenuous, obnoxious, petty, malicious, two-faced, untrustworthy, dishonest, toxic, piece of crap

  5. ” … but the federal government has revealed little about how its plan for China to ship 49,000 electric vehicles to Canada at a 6.1 per cent duty rate will work.”

That’s only because the chicomms haven’t given them those marching orders yet.

  6. I asked AI to list car companies that make cars in Australia.

Here are some companies that manufacture cars in Australia:

Toyota: Previously had a significant manufacturing presence in Australia.
Ford: Ceased local production but remains a notable brand.
Holden: An iconic Australian brand that has closed its manufacturing operations.
Mitsubishi: Also ceased local production but was a major player.
Premcar: A newer company that partners with international brands for local manufacturing.

This is where Canada is heading.

    1. But at least they don’t need to screw with priced to help local manufacturers.

Instead hmm things are stirring in the Middle East we will keep the gas reserves low and maybe more people will feel a little scared and buy more electric.

I guess since people are buying every electric vehicle they can it worked. Success, a win for our nanny state.

  7. “Canadians are supposed to buy EVs at whatever price Canadian automakers and their unions demand”

    No. It’s a ruse.
They have no intention for Canadians or anyone else to drive electric cars.
    The Dream is Dead.
They do not intend to let you own and operate your own autonymous vehicle at all.

    1. “They do not intend to let you own and operate your own autonymous vehicle at all.”

Yes, this is true. Because after the ability to shoot back, the ability to run away is the thing Communists hate the most. That’s why the guard towers on the East German side of the Berlin Wall all faced East Germany.

    2. The WEF set a goal of reducing private vehicles to 25%. You are not on the list.
Horse and buggies anyone? There already was a Bennett buggy, are we ready for a Carney car?

  8. “…the federal government has revealed little about how its plan for China to ship 49,000 electric vehicles to Canada…”

…because somebody made a sweet, sweet deal with the Chicoms, but now they’re afraid #OrangeManBad will do something crazy, like slap a 200% tariff on Canadian goods, or just plain close the border with Canada.

If all Trump did was close the border for two weeks, the economy of Canada would take such a hit that all the #ElbowPeople would be screaming for #CarkMarney’s head. Chinese spy cars is sufficient cause to close the border.

    1. “If all Trump did was close the border for two weeks, the economy of Canada would take such a hit that all the #ElbowPeople would be screaming for #CarkMarney’s head,”

Oh please PLEASE let him do it! Even for one week. Please.

I would just love to see the looks on their faces when reality smacks them right in the face.

      1. “I would just love to see the looks on their faces when reality smacks them right in the face.”

Can you imagine the screaming? “How DARE those Americans assert their sovereignty!!!”

        1. Can you imagine the screaming when all those manufacturing plants in the US shut down? Why does everyone believe the rhetoric that the US needs nothing from Canada? If that were the case Tump would have shut the border months ago.

          1. “Why does everyone believe the rhetoric that the US needs nothing from Canada?”

            Because it’s the truth.

We account for 19% percent of their trade…on our side, it’s 75%. A minor inconvenience for them, a HUGE economic blow for us.

” If that were the case Trump would have shut the border months ago.”

He’s saving that for the right moment. I can’t wait.

    2. If Trump closed the border the elbows up retards would be cheering Carnage on to do the same. There is no group on the planet with a greater case of TDS than the average Canadian, to the point they’d starve everyone in the country but themselves to death just to spite the USA.

      1. “There is no group on the planet with a greater case of TDS than the average Canadian, to the point they’d starve everyone in the country but themselves to death just to spite the USA.”

Vancouver runs out of gas in 4-5 days. The Maritime provinces last about a week. Never mind all the produce that comes into Canada from Mexico and South America *through* the United States.

  9. “Prime Minister Mark Carney has hailed the impending arrival of Chinese-made electric vehicles as a way to bring affordable cars to the country and as a way “to protect and create new auto manufacturing careers for Canadian workers.””

Couldn’t be more contradictory if he tried.

Allow BYD to come to Canada and you destroy what’s left of Canadian EV manufacturing.

As for the Canadian auto industry….we don’t actually have one, do we? We have a number of foreign auto makers who have set up branch plants in Canada, but it’s not *our* industry, it’s theirs.

      1. “There is no Canadian Ev manufacturing.”

True, we only make batteries for them.

    1. “China wants Canada to be their own Overstock.com”

China probably has enough excess cars sitting around to ship one to every man, woman and child in Canada. So much for your Canadian car industry, eh?

        1. China is going to use coal for their EV’s. Canadians are going to use a bus for their EV’s.

  10. Why would anyone buy a Chinese EV? There is no support for the vehicles. Who is going to repair them when there is a problem (and there will be problems)? Call 1-800 China? It’s only 49000 vehicles. Spread that out over all of Canada and it’s miniscule numbers. Will the Chinese start to open up dealerships? I don’t think it will be very many (look at Tesla’s network with many more vehicles).

      1. “They’ll be like the Chinese e-bikes, it breaks in a week, you toss it.”

Or it catches fire during the night and burns your house down.

  11. First of all, you already have Chinese EV’s tooling around Canada. Every single one of the EV Volvo’s in Canada was made by a Chinese subsidiary.

Were I to guess how China will handle the 49,000 vehicles (and twenty dealerships)….it will, indeed, be a kit process so that the vehicle completion is done by Canadian hands. Keep in mind that the vehicles hitting the market have to pass safety regulations and certification. China will try to pass that off on the “manufacturers” who put the car together.

Canada is, actually, following in the footsteps of the UK, which allowed China to inundate the EV market there with a flat 10% tariff. And, not so suprisingly EV fires are skyrocketing.

In short…stock up on marshmallows. Chinese EV’s have a reputation for smoke and flames. It’s so bad, videos are making their way out of Mainland China showing daily fire events.

  12. I saw this video a few months ago.
China has a huge problem with subsidized EVs sitting unused by the thousands before being sold in the ‘Used EV with Zero Kilometres’ market. Imagine getting a Chinese EV with ZERO Kilometres for half the cost of a new one, only to find that all of the features are two years out of date and the vehicle has been sitting without any maintainance for that whole time. China’s EV market is in big trouble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw94t1oGHgM

    1. “China has a huge problem with subsidized EVs sitting unused by the thousands before being sold in the ‘Used EV with Zero Kilometres’ market. ”

I read about that. Typical communist market manipulation.

  13. The last thing that Carney and his Lieberals want is canadians riding or driving around in their own cars!
Public transit is for rhe peons, where routes and times can be controlled.
It’s all about control. “You will do what you are told when you are told and how you are told to do it.
    NO MORE & NO LESS

  14. Here’s 1
Can you pick the ones Canada is following
1] – Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbour.
2] – Communism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then gives you some milk.
3] – Fascism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then sells you some milk.
4] – Nazism: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
5] – Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
My thought on it! Canadians have [1,2,3] already & [5] is disappearing like a whirlwind, & [4] is what going to happen
