Because it’s a moral issue. Surely the hazards of allowing the vulnerable of society to make life and death decisions can’t be lost on you.
And when it becomes mandatory?
Because the mentally ill and/or mentally handicapped are not deemed to be capable of making those sorts of life/death decisions. We could liken this to defense in a criminal case, at least this is considered a valid defense in my country.
At the very least, such a person should be granted a guardianship/conservatorship of some sort to keep them from offing themselves because some “healthcare professional” talked them into it.

Ironically, hospitals are named after places of healing begun by an Order of Christian Crusaders, the Knights Hospitaler. Healing, nursing the sick, used to be a vocation, answering a call from God, the voice of conscience. “First, Do No Harm” is the primary oath of medical ethics.
This in contrast to ancient Pagan temples of human sacrifice or so we thought were consigned to history by Christendom. Naively so, it turns out. That the 21st Century death cult of reducing human “over” population, has chosen to align itself politically, with the ancient death cult that emerged out of the Arabian desert 1400 years, ago. This should come as no surprise.

For the State run Healthcare to promote and carry out killing their patients,is a conflict of interest..

As if people need help dying,they have been doing so since time began..

Ironically … EVERY … peaceful, calm, medically supervised execution in America is characterized by “Dead Man Walking” protestors insisting these drugs are cruel and unusual. In fact, many Drug Companies refuse to provide the drugs anymore.
But State sanctioned death … to save money for your Rationed Healthcare system … is cheered and facilitated by these same drug corporations.

Now, I’m generally agnostic on both abortion and MAID. However…and it’s a big however. The enthusiasm that their proponents bring to the table is very deeply disturbing. Someone who’s been part of 400 assisted deaths is a very disturbed person. Very disturbed.

The leading edge of the baby boomers turn 80 next year. Do the math on that folks, with our top-heavy medical bureaucracy. Add to that we spend the vast majority of our lifetime healthcare dollars in our final years. Boomers will burden the system in an unprecedented way, the current pressures the end of the beginning rather than the beginning of the end of accessible healthcare. Btw, unless this late lad had insurmountable medical challenges, not deep depression, that doctor did harm, with lethal consequences, so should lose her medical privileges, imho.

At the end of my grand mother’s life she would not die, her tongue was swollen and she kept trying to crawl out of the bed it was awful. The nurse came in and gave her an extra shot of morphine into her butterfly line and Nan quietly went to sleep, that was twenty years ago, we’ve always have humane methods to end suffering but brave nurses and doctors didn’t talk about it. From what I’ve read it is not human, the first drug freezes you and second causes wet drowning-this method was allegedly banned?
She looks of a certain age, whereafter she might stop bothering and killing folks and maybe have to justify herself to her maker. Hopefully soon.
If I ever reach the point of knowing I was about to enter into screamingly-painful final throes, I will use a small pile of morphine sulfate I have squirreled away. My call, my right.
But I do NOT want the people who are responsible for paying my med bills to have any power or influence in that decision.
In Canada, with government paying the docs, AND with government providing and recommending MAID, the conflict is just too horrid.
It would be like allowing my private insurer here in the USA to send me a notice saying “you have exceeded the average medical expenditure for your area, here is the address of a competent suicide provider.”
