Thank You For Your Attention To This Matter

“President Donald Trump revealed the Trump-class battleships Monday at his Palm Beach estate, joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. These 30,000-ton vessels upgrade from current destroyers with more missile tubes, space for hypersonics, railguns, and lasers, aiming to build two initially and scale to 20-25 amid China’s naval growth. The White House calls it a Golden Age for defense to modernize the aging 287-ship fleet, though critics like former Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery question the $5 billion-plus designs’ focus on aesthetics over lethality against China.” – Grok AI

  1. Nothing says Merry Christmas better than cutting edge weaponry!
Oh, and I thought Hegseth was Secretary of War, not Defense.
I am not a ‘lefty’ I just dislike the military industrial complex and the endless shite.
    Peace.

  2. Now now. Diane Fox (Mrs. Mark Carney), the career eco-fanatic who’s the brains behind her husband, has a foolproof plan for when President Trump finally decides he’s had enough of the Chinese satellite state next door.

Mark has a private jet ready to go with enough fuel to get him and his lively wife out of Canada at the first sign of real trouble.

Diane, for her part, plans to be airborne and on her way back to England five minutes before Mark learms that his bank accounts are empty and the Yankees are coming.

Diane has no intention of dying in a US prison or committing suicide by US Marine with her husband. Consequences are for commoners, and Diane has probably kept dogs with better pedigree than Mark Carney.

  3. Sadly, as soon as the Democrats seize power, they’ll rename “Trump class battleships” to “George Floyd tubs”. 🙁

    1. Meh. The future is UAV and UUV , not aircraft. Taranto may be a useful example of airpower, but air power at sea is obsolete. The entire US carrier force can be sunk in a matter of minutes by UAV

        1. They were used to good effect after they were considered obsolete due to air power, so…? We just re-purposed them at that time.
The Missouri and Wisconsin did a very stand up job in 1991.
Sometimes old tools are quite useful if you’re open-minded enough to re-purpose them.

PS. Who do you think helped the Ukrainians with their marvelous drone ‘wonder weapons’? You don’t think we haven’t gotten downed Russian ones and taken a good look at them?

      1. “The entire US carrier force can be sunk in a matter of minutes by UAV”

That’s a gross overstatement, much like the previous panic over supersonic missiles.

        1. “The U.S. deploys semi-autonomous sea-borne drone hives currently.”

I’m sure that they have already figured out a plan for dealing with swarms of incoming drones, too.

          1. They are learning more every day from the most active, drone-intensive conflict on the planet.

    2. It’s good to see that someone has studied history — it’s always an enjoyable hobby. Might I suggest digging into the history of the American navy?

  4. “space for hypersonics, rail guns, and lasers.”

I suspect the design changes to accommodate the production versions of hypersonics, rail guns, and lasers, will seriously delay the completion of these ships.

Look up Zumwalt and Constellation class ships.

The development costs will ensure a “golden age”, but for whom?

    1. A carrier without a flight deck? They haven’t built a battleship in 80 years, likely for very good reason. An awful lot of them were sunk in WWII. A lot of eggs in one basket.

  5. This is a huge mistake. The whole point of battleships was to carry big guns, and we don’t use guns anymore. Build more Aegis-type cruisers instead.

(and naming it after himself? Another big mistake, sorry…).

I’m beginning to worry about Trump’s judgment now. I never needed to before….trolling is one thing, as is hurling insults at people, but this is a step too far IMO.

    1. Fred, Trump obviously loves causing Democrat and their leftards supporters heads to explode; it’s a sublime middle finger.

That’s why he names things after himself is my guess. I say more power to him.

      1. “That’s why he names things after himself is my guess. I say more power to him.”

That would explain the Kennedy Centre thing (and maybe the Gulf of America one as well)…

    2. You’re thinking too much about the design and its previous history (although not completely: see my comment above) and not what it could potentially be used for.

  6. It’s half the tonnage of the last battleship they built at 30kt, and the images don’t look like a battleship.

If they are putting DEWs on it, it probably should be nuclear powered.

    1. “and the images don’t look like a battleship”

They don’t. Cruiser size at best…which is a better design, to me.

    2. With rail guns and lasers, I believe they require nuclear power. The electric demand is that large.
