“Experts” at the Natural Resources Canada (NRC) designed a $2.3 Billion tree planting program claiming that it would reduce emissions by “up to 11 to 12 Mt CO2 annually by 2050.” We were not told what actual impact this would have on global warming, nor did the press ask.
Science tells us that, as planned, this projected reduction in emissions would have temporarily deferred global warming at an annual rate of 0.0000054 degrees C. This is equivalent to one degree in 185,000 years!
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) conducted a performance audit of the program two years after inception. The results showed that the NRC “experts” had wildly overestimated the benefits of the program and badly underestimated the costs. The program was on track to achieve only 37% of its stated emissions reduction goal. The original estimated cost of $2.3 Billion had ballooned to $5.8 Billion – 252% higher.
The audit results showed that the average Canadian family was now being asked to spend $532 to temporarily defer global warming at a rate of one degree per 517,000 years. Without the audit, the “experts” the Star relies upon would simply have let this ridiculous waste of money carry on.
The Star’s obsequious acceptance of propaganda from activist “experts” and politicians leads “progressive swing voters” into believing that totally irrational environmental projects have been carefully evaluated to have maximum value and to reflect the values and priorities of an informed public.
