Canadian taxpayers gave Stellantis $15 billion.
Today their CEO proudly told Donald Trump they’re putting almost that exact amount into new factories in the USA.
Mark Carney is a master negotiator!

Amazing. Turned out all Donald Trump had to do to bring manufacturing jobs back to the USA was to reduce the incentive to send the jobs to the Red Chinese satellite state next door.
Of course, this will be quite all right with Mark Carney. Rest assured he doesn’t have a thin dime more invested in Canada than he can afford to lose.
On the contrary. If Carney hadn’t in fact shorted the Canadian economy and stood to make a fortune ruining his alleged home country, what would he have done differently?
Carney loves his country there is no doubt. We just don’t know which it is, but it isn’t Canada.
The unreliable boyfriend strikes again!
Excuse my facts, but…
The Government of Canada has not yet given Stellantis a cent. The $15 billion is the maximum amount of production subsidies the governments of Canada and Ontario have agreed to pay. These subsidies are paid out on a per unit basis. The more battery cells that Stellantis produces in Ontario, the more subsidies they receive. There are, however, some conditions under which the subsidies must be paid back to the government (e.g., not enough jobs are created). Production has only just started.
You might still dislike these subsidies for a whole variety of reasons, but let’s get the facts right.
You could tell Pierre Poilievre and (my MP) Michelle Remple Garner to get their facts straight too, imagine how many others are making this error while you pound the keyboard.

I’m with the Killer here. It seems as though nobody has read the agreement or even looked at the main points which includes the Province of Ontario contributing 1/2 of the incentives and Canada 2/3 which has a total cap of $15 billion. The incentives are performance based. They are paid only based on the production of the batteries made in the Ontario plants. Still a big loss for Canada. Mark Carney wasn’t even in the government when this deal was completed in 2023. Now that Trump is crushing EV subsidies and returning to gas-powered vehicles, all countries subsidizing battery production will have to rethink their options.
Quick Facts
In its 2023 Budget, the federal government unveiled transformative investments in jobs and growth as part of a $120 billion clean economy plan.
Canada’s automotive sector supports over 500,000 workers, including nearly 100,000 auto plant workers in Ontario. The sector contributes $16 billion annually to Canada’s gross domestic product and is one of the country’s largest export industries.
The final agreement with Stellantis includes a number of conditions:
The governments will only provide a performance incentive for batteries that Stellantis produces and sells, in line with the conditions in the agreement for the Volkswagen battery cell manufacturing plant;
Stellantis will uphold its existing commitments in Canada and Ontario, including a production mandate at its plant in Brampton, Ontario;
The company will invest more in Canada and Ontario, including for the establishment of an research and development facility in Windsor, Ontario;
The operating expenses provided will only be available for as long as the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act incentives remain in effect;
The federal government has agreed to provide Stellantis with a performance incentive on a per unit production basis of up to US$45 per kWh (US$35 per kWh for battery cells and US$10 per kWh for battery modules). Canada’s performance incentive is subject to an overall cap of C$15 billion, of which one-third is to be paid by the Ontario government.

You’ll notice, though, that Poilievre said “give”, not “gave”. At least he recognizes that the subsidies are not yet paid.
$15 Billion, is $15 Billion, through subsidies or not, IT IS RETARDED!~!!!!!!
Killer M thinks its OK, since FILTHY LIBERALS are involved.
I worked at the Plant in Korea, I mean Windsor….had to be 1000 Koreans there fresh from the Airport.
I’m sure all of them were legal.
I don’t care.
Makes Ezra Levant look a bit stupid, just sayin. Search for the truth and all that.
And what say of the Minister who didn’t read the contract?
Who had the client say they didn’t request a redacted report?
She received her kickback so she says we should all just forget about it.
Would be nice if the grown ups in Canada went hat in hand and tried to work out a deal that benefits both nations equally, oh well I can dream.
Who cares is the new boomer chant now that elbows up has fizzled out. Every Carney failure is met with “who cares?”. It’s the perfect summation of boomer attitude. Who cares indeed.
