Saskatchewan commits to nuclear power generation: The full press conference video

This is one of the most significant announcements in years.

This plan, if followed, will dramatically reshape Saskatchewan. Nuclear may not be cheap or easy, but it is also transformative in many ways. And as many participants and executives during the conference noted these power stations could last up to 100 years, this really is a case of planting trees so one’s grandchildren can play in the shade.

That plan, in its entirety, is reproduced here on Pipeline Online.

That’s just a part of the in-depth coverage of the conference’s events provided by Pipeline Online. Check out, for instance, the opening question Pipeline Online posed during the scrum portion, and then look at the question asked by other media at 44:51, when another reporter asked, “Can you clarify what you mean of nuclear power sources? Does that mean a nuclear power plant in Saskatchewan?”

“Yes, that’s what we’re talking about here,” Harrison responded.

Remember, she was standing there for 45 minutes, listening to over half an hour of press conference and then 10 minutes of questions to then ask if all this meant a nuclear power plant in Saskatchewan?

You might notice me in the middle of the pack, doing a face-palm.

Where would you prefer to get your energy news?

  1. the good news when us ‘eastern bastards are freezing in the dark’ whilst 10,000s wind generators are frozen stiff in -30C, SK can sell surplus power at oh, say, $0.75 a pop and let ontrariowe PAY FOR the nuke plant. effectively meaning SK hydro is FREE
    win win!!

      GOD HELP YOU.
You have no idea what ultra WOKE, DEI Nonsense OPG is. Managers all rise to their own level of incompetence and spread out, cluttering the process with their Departments and their silos of power. Masons used to run the place. Many are still in positions of influence. A dangerous nepotism trait.

Rainbow Crosswalks, Pride flag flying, and its as if they follow the UN calendar, for those “special days” Orange Shirt day, earth day…
Your Province will be milked. Bankrupt. OPG NEVER meets a deadline or schedule. They have a million engineers named Mohamed. They are the worst engineers on the Planet. I worked in Oil and Gas and they put these Nuclear Knobs to shame.
Mark my words, your Electric Bill will TRIPLE.
      RIP Saskatchatoon

  2. So… this nuclear power will be generated at all stages from uranium ore to electricity at my desk, in Saskatchewan?
Should probably X/Tweet this good news, so word gets out…

  3. Do we get a “breeder reactor” for our future “national security” needs?
Just a small add on to the electricity generation needs and such an investment in our future.

      1. Sorry left out the sarc tag.
Enriching our uranium ore to weapons grade material, for the day we need to make Ottawa a warmer and more inclusive spot.

    1. A breeder reactor is also useful in consuming some nuclear waste. There is much to be done with various fuel cycles; interestingly the Candu can burn multiple fuel types.

      1. AREVA can burn our waste in their reactors.
It would be nice to heat up Ottawa though.

  4. Alberta is talking about CANDU Monark reactors up in the peace country again. If we had started in on them years ago, we might have been really close to having them online by now!

My concern these days, with the enshitification of all things continuing un abated, would be materials and workmanship, would have to keep an extremely close eye on things to make sure only the top quality materials and processes are used to proceed. One way that could be done, is if a majority of construction supplies comes from ones own country! Yes we have lots of fuel available, but it would be a good national project to build these reactors, but with the contempt that the east has for the west, it would be an even better tour de force if it was a FREE WEST that did it..

Yes i know Nuclear is federally regulated, but one can dream..

    1. Last week a group working on up to 4 Peace Country reactors signed an MOU with Westinghouse for the AP1000. I spoke to the president of Westinghouse Canada – story to come. I’ll have a pile of stories out of that conference.

      1. Westinghouse……how convenient that it was bought by BROOKFIELD and now the FILTHY LIBERALS directly corrupt Carney. He is 91% invested in the USA.

  5. It has always struck me as odd that the one truly practical and proven solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions — nuclear energy — is rejected by almost all climate activists.

Their arguments don’t hold up. The safety record of nuclear power is excellent, and likely only to get better as intrinsically safe designs such as Passive Safety Systems are developed. And even if there were serious safety concerns, surely it would be worth it to prevent the planet from cooking.

Yet they generally reject nuclear power. This suggests at least two things. First, they’re not movements founded on solid scientific thinking. And second, their goals aren’t limited to the prevention of global warming. Other things are in play.

    1. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD GREENHOUSE GASES
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLIMATE CHANGE.
WHO CARES WHAT FILTHY LIBERALS THINK ANYWAY.

      1. Now, Biker. We need to piss on Marmot when he acts dumb and show him some kindness when he talks sense, not the other way round.
