Thank You For Your Attention To This Matter

Score another hit for Fat Trudeau.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Ronald Reagan’s unedited remarks.

  1. Wow, that FFF just keeps stepping on his d*ck, maybe because he hasn’t seen it for years, except in a mirror. Looking back at Carney, a goalie for Harvard supposedly, you would think he would know the penalty for elbowing in Hockey.

“Elbowing in hockey typically results in a two-minute minor penalty, but it can escalate to a five-minute major penalty or a match penalty if the action is deemed intentional or causes injury. The offending player is sent to the penalty box, leaving their team short-handed during the penalty duration.”

I would say the whole Elbows Up thing was intentional and did cause injury, only not to the people he intended it to, just ask the Auto Workers in Ontario. I can’t believe this guy is supposed to be smart, he may be intelligent but that is different from being smart and having common sense. I can see Brookfield coming out of this really well, Canada – not so much.

  2. The govt of Ontario is apparently oblivious to the fact that Trump is applying the counter-tariffs. Canada is the protectionist one “defending” their economy by closing access.

  3. Not sure what sure what Donny or the Ronald Reagan Foundation is going on about.

Reagan was a fierce free trader, and there’s no getting past it. He used tariffs in limited ways for limited durations to force nations to live up to their trade agreements, much like a well-trained policeman ocassionally uses force to keep the peace. For Reagan, tariffs were at best a necessary evil, and to be avoided whenever possible.

As I understand it, the video is in the public domain, as it was created by an agency of the US government. The Government of Ontario needs no one’s permission.

      1. I haven’t found the Government of Ontario ad on the interweb, so I can’t say how they used it. Maybe someone can provide a link.

But I’ve been aware of the Ronald Reagan video for many months, and it runs counter to Trump’s trade policies very strongly.

      2. That was part of my point above. Trump is providing the counter-tariffs against a closed market. Canada having tariffs and steep charges for entry brought about Trump’s reaction.

    1. Just so you understand, it’s all about context. The entire purpose of the Reagan speech was explaining the imposition of new tariffs on Japan in retaliation for unfair trade practices. Ford left this out of the ad, on purpose. Ford is an idiot, and should resign just for this stupid move. Every action he has taken, every word that’s come out of his mouth since his fake re election has made things worse.

      1. I just read a little more and it’s even worse regarding context. Congress had proposed legislation that would prevent the President from imposing tariffs. Reagan’s speech explained that he supported free trade (the only part Ford used), and then explained with the Japan (semi conductor) example why tariffs were still sometimes needed, in order to force free and fair trade.
Ford really crapped the bed here.

      2. “Every action he has taken, every word that’s come out of his mouth since his fake re election has made things worse.”

I agree. But he -couldn’t- be that stupid and have achieved all the success he has over the years, so it does make one wonder what is actually going on. Maybe his poll numbers go up with his elbows? People in Toronto are that stupid, I must admit.

        1. Agreed, it can only be that he knows Toronto people are indeed that stupid, and he just doesn’t care about anything other than having them vote for him.

  4. How many F-bombs do you think The President threw when he heard/saw this ad from tier 2 Canada?

How much does “Land ‘o Lakes” butter from Arden Hills, Minnesota cost in tier 2 Canada?

How many jobs will the next series of tariffs cost tier 2 Canada? How many drub busts for fentanyl related products has tier 2 Canada announced since the PM said they’d look into the border problem? Has anyone checked in on tier 2 Canada’s drug czar who was named this spring and hasn’t been heard of since? The RCMP shorts Alberta 400 officers compared to what it has contracted to, and nobody calls them out for breach of contract? All those RCMP guarding a BC ostrich farm from prying media eyes, and there’s carnage on the highways every day from bogus certified long haul truckers from over there? Every day there are new revelations of how Brookfield is doing great by not following tier 2 Canadian tax law and Marx Carnage announces we’re going to have a harsh budget to follow soon, after already enduring a decade of #Librano madness.

  5. My spidey sense is tingling over that Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute announcement. There’s a chance that it is fabricated, as…

    1. There is no such announcement on their web page nor their twitter page:

    https://www.reaganfoundation.org/

    https://x.com/ReaganInstitute

    2. The Foundation can not take legal action as the video is almost certainly in the public domain, and if it weren’t, the government would own it. The Foundation would not have legal standing.

    3. The announcement is not in the spirit of Ronald Reagan, who took free speech and individual freedom rather seriously.

      1. There appears to be two X sites that represent the RRPFI. But mine has a gold checkmark, which in TwitterSpeak means it’s a verified organization. It carries more weight than simply a blue checkmark.

Also, why would your X site repost the announcement from Dan Scavino rather than simply post it themselves.

I’m confused. This needs sorting out.

          1. You’ve got far too much invested in being ‘right’ … and not nearly enough invested in the TRUTH. I’ve been watching ‘Ontario anti-tariff’ advertisements for many, many, months. Speaking of how we are all brothers across the border … and how Canada loves us … yet just the OPPOSITE is true … elbows up Canadians HATE our guts … and don’t mind lying about it to save their asses.

            Too little, too late.

          2. Kenji:

Actually, I try to start with the facts, and work out from there.

The RRPFI announcement appears to be legit. The X account provided by Kate is real, although I don’t know why the RRPFI has two accounts.

But so much about this still doesn’t make sense. Trump just drew everyone’s attention to Reagan’s video, which runs exactly counter to his own trade policies. Nor do I understand why the RRPFI thinks it has legal standing to take action.

          3. Per Grok
Yes, Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s government launched a $75M US ad campaign featuring a selectively edited clip from Ronald Reagan’s 1987 radio address criticizing tariffs’ long-term effects, omitting context where he affirmed presidents’ broad tariff authority under trade laws. Trump called it a “fake” misrepresentation, leading him to terminate Canada trade talks and accuse interference. The Reagan Foundation has flagged it as misleading, threatening action. Alberta’s push for independence makes sense amid such provincial overreach.

          4. Reagan’s tariff speech was in 1987. Smoot Hawley was passed in 1930. The idea that tariffs are ALWAYS and forever bad … EXCEPT when committed against the USA … is simply not accurate. The times have changed. The trade landscape has changed. American corporations hadn’t yet outsourced all their manufacturing to dirt poor, communist dictatorships where workers have no political voice or protections. Where countries impose no environmental controls. Where nations deliberately devalue their currency.

Selectively dredging up old speeches as if the sound byte is relevant to today’s trade landscape is intellectually weak. But I would expect nothing less from Ontario. However, I hold SDA readers in higher regard.

          5. “Actually, I try to start with the facts, and work out from there.”

No, you invariably start with “will this subject allow me to take a cheap shot at Donald Trump?”….everything else is secondary. No one else here had any difficulties figuring out the truth, just you.

          6. No, you invariably start with “will this subject allow me to take a cheap shot at Donald Trump?”

No, sometimes I comment approvingly of Trump’s actions, such as his efforts to secure the southern border. These comments don’t attract much attention because people are far more sensitive to comments they disagree with than comments they approve of.

But I must ask, Fred From BC: where have you ever posted disapproval of some action taken by Trump, and if so, what action was that? Or are you just a cheer leader?

  6. For people that don’t yet understand, and there are still plenty, particularly “boomers”,,, the “elbows up” thing was just another slick Madison Avenue type, advertising campaign (think Mad Men), to get the Liberals reelected to power once again. It had nothing to do with patriotism for Canada, as Liberals consider Canada, a post-national state,,, a country they are willing to sell out to whom ever slips them the biggest side envelope.
The ad campaign, targeted the “boomers” and new Canadians who have taken the oath of citizenship in recent years, as those groups have the most patriotic emotions.
Many Canadians have been so thirsty for some sign of nationalism from their government since the Turd was elected in 2015. Our Canadian history denied, or revised, statues of heroes and leaders torn down, street and place names changed, Canadian culture diluted or erased by mass immigration in such a short time period, and government policies that seem to care more about foreign affairs, than the needs of Canadians.

Canadians were marketed nationalism, and they bought it !

Elbows up, was just a slick advertising campaign.

    1. “For people that don’t yet understand, and there are still plenty, particularly “boomers”

Don’t speak for people you neither know nor represent. Particularly boomers? Shut-up, Doofus.

      1. I am a boomer, and I know plenty of boomers that are still doing the chicken dance, because,,, they’re suddenly ” new patriots” !
( including some of my own, urban dwelling siblings )

        1. I’m a boomer and an Albertan and I don’t personally know any idiots like you, Carl.
All of the boomers that I know voted Conservative, or what passed for conservative, for the last 40 years.

    2. Kanadians went from “Sunny Ways!” retards to “Elbows Up!” retards. There is absolutely no hope that anything will improve in the Lieberal Democratic Peoples Republic of Kanada.

  7. Looks like Rob Ford was the smarter brother.
It’s clear that Thug Ford ignored the dressing down from Lutnick a few months back. He just can’t help himself, being an oaf and a boor.
He’s got the reverse Midas touch.
So, the fallout. Trump puts the Libidiots on call forward to 1800BITE-ME.
USMCA deal is dead in the water, guaranteed.
Autopact firms and parts makers will shut down their northern operations, relocating/mobilizing operations south of the border. Serves Morontariowe right.
They will take the biggest hits, along with Queerbec.
    BC is already fcked.
    Nuclear economic winter.
Wow, this country has idiotic leadership. Martin Armstrong has called leadership throughout the world, the worst, most incompetent in all his years in business.
He ain’t wrong. In that, Canada leads the pack!

  8. Agree that Rob Ford was the smart one…
In terms of lost Ontarian auto worker jobs, what’s the cost?

I think this move from The President advances separation sentiment in Alberta/Saskatchewan
so I’m thankful for Premier Ford’s “sampling” of portions of President Reagan’s speech and insertion into what is clearly federal gov’t jurisdiction.

  9. Trump: Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs.

Me: I watched both the advert and the full Reagan unedited. Reagan WAS speaking negatively about tariffs. And rightly so IMO, they are a form of cutting your own nose to spite somebody else’s face. The advert was fair comment – why such a squawk in response?

Canada “only did this to interfere” in with ‘Merka’s courts – like, when did the US ever interfere in another country’s internal affairs? Hypocrisy or what?

One looses supporters one at a time…

    1. ” Reagan WAS speaking negatively about tariffs. And rightly so IMO, they are a form of cutting your own nose to spite somebody else’s face.”

Unless they are not, as in countervailing tariffs.

Everyone overlooks the fact that President Trump imposed tariffs on a number of nations who were already imposing their own tariffs on the US. The whole idea was for *neither side* to use them.

“The advert was fair comment – why such a squawk in response? ”

Because it deliberately distorted the actual truth of the situation.

  10. Trump should retaliate with a $75million Ontario ad campaign saying Saskatchewan and Alberta have to remain in Canada. We’d have our independence in a week.

  11. Apparently, not a single political leader east of Saskatchewan understands how diplomacy works.

Personally, I think that politicians in central Canada are trying to use the same tactics with Trump that they’ve used for decades in their treatment of Alberta and Saskatchewan : arrogance, obnoxiousness, ignorance and propaganda campaigns. To no one’s surprise (outside of central Canada) it is having a the exact same effect : resentment, retaliation and backlash.

In the end, Canada will lose. Alberta and Saskatchewan are moving towards independence (within Canada like Quebec or outright separation). And central Canada is losing their lucrative trade relationship with America. Congratulations to politicians and voters in central and eastern Canada. Great job.
