Burlington, Vermont is Falling Apart

Over 170 businesses signed letter urging action over crime in Burlington, Vermont:

Business owners in a New England college city are reportedly close to a breaking point as crime affects its downtown, potentially bringing trouble for students’ parents and leaf-peeping tourists in the area.

Officials in Burlington, Vermont — home to the University of Vermont — have said they are working on new strategies to combat crime in the city’s downtown, where business owners have raised concerns about graffiti, shoplifting and open drug use. While Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak has noted there is no simple solution, she has argued that a heavier police presence could undermine progress, local news outlet WCAX Channel 3 reported.

Jimmy Baldea, a deputy with the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office, about 65 miles south of Burlington, told Fox News Digital that the mayor should reconsider her stance and that a greater police presence could be helpful for keeping crime at bay.

Styx, who lives in nearby Rutland, weighs in.

By the way, let’s have a mini “Let Me Correct That Headline” contest. Here’s my submission: “Leftist Policies Destroy Lovely Communities”. What’s yours?

  1. Read your mayor’s comments. You voted for this! She obviously thinks what they are doing hasn’t contributed to the decline.

  2. Those dedicated to the criminal enterprise of the state, fertilize and nurture such behavior wherever elected.

  3. Progressive politicians seem to think that business owners have an infinite capacity to tolerate crime.

But each offense is another step towards closing the doors.

  4. The solution is pretty simple : arrest and jail repeat offenders, send addicts to rehab, treat the mentally ill at mental health facilities, assist the homeless who do not fall into the previous categories. It’s the implementation that’s politically tricky and expensive. I think it’s worth the cost to have safer, more peaceful communities. The economic and personal cost of crime and chaos is way too high in North America right now.

  5. Styx (whom I quite enjoy) … says that once the folks lose their jobs and the bad element move into a city … all the people of means MOVE OUT. The term for that is “white flight” … and they don’t just flee “blacks” … they flee collapsing demographics across the board. It’s “people of means flight”.

Here in “progressive” CA we have a flaming homo State Sen. Scott Weiner who has single-handedly eliminated all single-family zoning throughout the State, and demanded that every quiet, safe, and peaceful, suburb build “their fair share” of low income housing by stripping-away all local zoning controls and density limits.

The “progressive” homos in our State are targeting suburbia for a bullet to the neck … just as Charlie Kirk was targeted. They aren’t builders … they’re destroyers. They want to destroy all that is good, righteous, and worthy of praise. These people are EVIL … in the guise of “doing good”.

  6. How soon before we enforce the obvious?
If you contribute nothing to a community.
If you refuse to contribute to your community.
Or if you openly seek to destroy the community..
What does that community owe you?
“Run outa town on a rail”.
When did I owe the freeloader and destructive parasite sustenance?
Every community has the right to protect itself.
Those that choose suicide need to be ring fenced,so the residents can enjoy their chosen fate, without damaging everyone around them.
    Forward!
    To your glorious future.

    1. So true John! That is the unspoken contract between civilized peoples living together in communities. We may all be different colors, cultures, even different socioeconomic strata … but we are all in our particular place for intentional purposes. We all share that.

And if you don’t? In the olden days you’d have been ridden out of town on a rail. Now we “celebrate diversity” as if that has ANY objective purpose whatsoever.

  7. Headline:
BURLINGTON: Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak argues that a heavier police presence could undermine progress towards official “hellhole” designation.

  8. I spent a few days there two years ago. It was very disappointing. It stank of pot and looked like it was invaded by a pack of 20-something zombies. BLM signs everywhere. Pride flags. Homeless encampments. The general tone of the locals was far left so they can enjoy their decline.

The rest of the state was beautiful. Worth the visit. Avoid Burlington.
