Schadenbroken

Via Instapundit;

In a state-level party conference meeting on Saturday, Mr Merz said: “The welfare state as we have it today can no longer be financed with what we can economically afford.”

Once the export champion of Europe, Germany’s economy has slowed dramatically since 2017, with GDP growing by only 1.6 per cent since then versus 9.5 per cent for the rest of the eurozone.

Germany’s economy shrank by 0.2 per cent last year following a 0.3 per cent dip in 2023 – the first time since the early 2000s the economy has retreated two years in a row.

Industrial production fell under the Left-leaning “traffic light” coalition of Olaf Scholz and continues to slide under the new government, with GDP declining by 0.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2025.

Meanwhile, spending on social welfare has exploded, and is set to increase further this year as Germany’s population ages and unemployment rises. Although the majority of benefit recipients are German, large numbers are non-German citizens.

  1. pffft. well, whatever is destined to happen to good ol’ deutchland we can be sure its going to happen faster and harder with all the immigration that the communist merkel let in. WITH FULL COOPERATION AND DIRECTION FROM THE VOTERS WHO ARE GOING TO GET REAL BELLY FULL OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES.
sooooo congratulations germans, this could make the soviets in 1945 look like a picnic. AT LEAST THEY LEFT EVENTULLY. THIS BUNCH IS GOING TO SIMPLY ASSUME OWNERSHIP AND CONTROL OF ALL YOU PUT IN PLACE AFTER THE ALLIED BOMBERS AND RUSSIAN ARTILLERY WERE DONE.
    YOU BLOODY STOOOOOOPID WOKE LEFTISTS

  2. All the welfare states require a productive and growing population to pay for the parasites, layabouts, and the bottom quintile.

No current states have that, and importing a bunch of people incompatible with the existing society doesn’t work.

  3. Remember the goal because we have the same problem here in Canada and are not far behind the German state.

    1. We are living in a glass house. Probably shouldn’t throw rocks.

Canada’s real GDP per capita decreased by 1.4% in 2024, following a 1.3% decline in 2023, indicating a continuous downward trend in living standards.

There has been a sustained decrease in real GDP per capita, with it declining in five of the last six quarters, returning to levels not seen since 2017.

The consistent decline in GDP per capita suggests a negative implication for the standard of living and wage growth in Canada.

  4. Ohhhhhhh Mommmmmmaaaaaa … but, but, but … we have it so good here in Europe. We have peace and prosperity. We are all living the sweet life. So we feel so guilty that we have it so good … but those poor unfortunate souls in Muslimlands have it so bad. We “stole” their resources. We made steel from their dirt, and put diamond engagement rings on our half naked free-spirited (sex crazed) women that little black children dug from deep, dangerous mines. We bombed their Minerets!

Ohhhhhhh mommmmaaaaa … we acknowledge that white Christians did that to them. We owe them. They would be just as peaceful as us … if they could just live among us. We owe them reparations. The guilt, ohh the guilt. It stings the hearts of every German who holds and displays their virtue for all to see. We’ll show those bad, mean, Christians. We’ll open our borders and our treasury to every refugee delivered by quasi-governmental NGO’s.

If our personal lives suffer, then it serves us right for being so mean to those people ovvvvvvv culller. We acknowledge that capitalism is selfish, exploitive, and destructive. Here. Here’s a nice apartment, house, and wad of Euros. We acknowledge that black and brown people are more noble than us. We acknowledge the Catholic Church is baaaad, mmmmKay. Come one, come all.

    1. Oh ma is just oh sh*t in chinese, ma de (pronounced moth’ er) is also oh shit.
we are definitely in a Oh ma moment
      – and how many of us said Oh Ma when we were caught doing something never realizing we were speaking chinese?

    1. Yep. Bankrupt Capitalism … and then claim it is a flawed system of economics. And elect a Communist mayor who will install a “white tax”

    2. “Cloward-Piven” in de deutsche is “Cloward-Piven”.

But yes, you are correct in your observation.

  5. Past wisdom: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.”

Present reality: “The problem with socialism coupled with mass immigration is that we’ve already run out of other peoples’ money.”

    1. I would classify the present reality as “Germany is running out of its own money. And when Germany runs out of money…”.

I would not want to be a a retiree in Europe right now. Or a nurse. Or an immigrant in Germany.

  6. If your GDP is “growing” by 1.6% and inflation is 2.8% isn’t your GDP falling by 1.2%?
