    1. hire “customer greeters” to speak to shoppers when they walk through the door.

    2. Retails were also advised to hire extra security staff to be visible during the most “vulnerable” times.

    3. Other recommendations included putting up warning signs saying that thieves would be reported

    Their 3 recommendations are at a cost to the retailer. These costs get passed onto the consumer. More than that, they would be ineffectual.

    And, then the bonus from the article. They show a photograph of someone stealing a bottle of booze looking shifty. Any guesses? Anyone? Yup, it’s a white male. Another photo…black cop. No appearances from the minority youths who do most of the retail crime.

  2. Cool! Then the septuagenarian ‘Walmart’ greeters can get assaulted and injured (or worse) adding to the crimes that won’t be prosecuted. Good thinking coppers. Or should I say … ‘pension clingers’.

      Put a sign at the entrance saying that thieves will be shot, and emphasize it by having employees open carry.

    2. I’ve always thought the ratcheting of a pump shotgun is a very effective greeting…

  3. 5 years ago they had no problem arresting customers without masks. Today they won’t arrest thieves.

  4. ah. is the merely *being noticed* the deterrent. not some expectation of a reciprocal level of respect. got it. at least they werent sucked into any nonsensical ‘logic’
