Our ancestors (British) were loyalists, more appropriately described as people who either were terrified of opposing George III, or had secured a comfortable sinecure within his landed gentry. This is manifestly another form of cowardice, ”I’ve got mine, eff you”.
         Our American cousins were the type who just said “eff you”, we’ll take it all, thanks. They are bolder, braver, and yes, less polite. The world has unfolded as you would suspect, with them dominating it. They may now succumb to the lesser among them, time will tell. We have nothing from which to succumb, having done that 200 years ago. The contribution from the French didn’t stiffen our spines either. /sarc.

         1. Yes, that Loyalist heritage is what sets Canada apart from the West. It’s not that there’s no anti-Americanism in the West, but it’s all second-hand. This country has never had hostile relations with the US, and they’ve always been good neighbours. If you don’t inherit anti-Americanism from your ancestors abroad, you won’t pick it up here. There is nothing at all that compares with the historic battlefields of Ontario and Quebec, nothing to be proud of or to resent. Just ongoing good relations. If anything, Canadian anti-Americanism strikes us as bogus, which it really isn’t. I mean, I’ve seen those battlefields.

8. I don’t like hockey, I don’t like professional sports generally, I barely knew who Don Cherry was, and mostly because of his flashy suits. And I never watch CBC.

   But, hearing about this occurrence, it seems entirely in keeping with the rest of Official Canada. #RonMacLean helpiong to throw #DonCherry under the bus so he could have the TV show all to himself? And then lying about it years later, to cover up what was done? Oh yeah. That’s right on point.

   Lie, deny, clutch pearls, view with alarm, betrayal, and then more lying to cover over the betrayal and the original lies. Perfect encapsulation of official Canada. And corporate Canada too, let’s not forget. #CTV, same schlitz different pile.

   That’s why the stench of corruption from the Canadian media is so intense. It’s gotten to where I won’t even watch media clips on Youtube if there’s a newsreader talking. I skip to the video and ignore everything they say, in case it might make me dumber for having listened.

   Let’s put it this way: Compared to the 1970s, Hamilton and Toronto right now have the kind of crime level we used to only see in Detroit and New York City. People are getting shot by gang-bangers in the middle of downtown at 2pm on a Tuesday. The -media- is all pretending that A) this is horrible!!!! and also B) this is completely normal, nothing to see here move along, #wipeepoe are bad, vote #Lieberal. Both at the same time.

   Your tax dollars at work. Because if it was down to private enterprise they’d all have gone bankrupt in the ’90s.

10. If anyone had any doubts about MacLean being the ultimate piece of work his latest antic should remove any such doubts. He can now add liar to his resume to accompany despicable POS, coward, ass kisser and douchebag.
    Don Cherry has more integrity and courage in his little finger than MacLean possesses in his entire useless body.

11. I think Don Cherry is an honorable man… perhaps one of two who I’ve known worked for the CBC
    Rex being the other.
    There “may be” others, but in their silence it’s difficult to tell, and I don’t find keeping quiet to be an honor for this cause.
