  1. —solar is required on all new builds,
—the easement from the property line. It’s got to be five feet now and ours was only three
—Soil sampling is now required, and that tacks another $5000-$8000 onto the process
—(not in this article) The municipality contracted with debris removal services that inflate prices. The Home owner has no say in what contractor to use on removal. If they are not paid immediately, they are attached to the property tax notice. Failure to pay the full price will put the property into default. Additionally, failure to set up the debris removal will result in the property being condemned. Both processes allow the municipality to put a lien on the property and auction it off…(likely to commercial developers for multiple family low income dwellings)

Suck it up California. This is your just dessert.

    1. Suck it up Maui … this is your just dessert.

      https://www.city-journal.org/article/maui-wildfires-recovery-rebuild-homes-businesses

Two years … and virtually ZERO rebuilds. The survivors are running out of time and money. Their insurance won’t keep paying for the time delays. They can no longer defer paying mortgages on homes which no longer exist. They will ALL SELL OUT in the coming year.

The time delay IS the punishment. They can no longer afford to rebuild.

    2. Solar … AND … residential Fire Sprinklers are required. And those Fire sprinkler systems ADD the need for an enlarged water meter which costs $40-50,000.00 … just for the water district “capacity charge” in my EBMUD District. And PS … Residential, CPVC (plastic piping) residential fire sprinklers won’t “save” your house from a wildfire … but actually make it WORSE as your pipes melt and start dropping fire fighting water pressure throughout your neighborhood.

Yes, these “safety-sounding” rules and codes ARE invented by do-gooders incapable of game-playing out ALL the implications of their do goody ideas.

And … Title 24. California’s massively aggressive Energy regulations. Too many upgrades to mention here … but … windows, roofing, insulation, furnace, appliances, water heater … EVERYTHING going back into these new homes are at least TWICE as costly as the original (replacement cost) building elements … in the mildest climate in the USA.

      1. I must admit I’ve never seen a house with a sprinkler system, but I don’t see how anyone’s code would allow anything but steel piping. The bulb in the sprinkler head breaks when it gets heated.
And how does a water meter cost that much?

        1. It’s the law of diminishing returns.
A domestic water service and meter were never meant to be dual duty, i.e. fire protection. But someone sold the idea that lives could be saved with a sprinkler head in your house.
Our house built in 1912, we bought in 2000 is now valued 4x that purchase, 25 years later.

        2. The cost of the water meter is pure PUNISHMENT for expanding the overall water demand. It’s a “capacity charge” ostensibly used to fund expanded water storage/supply. Some years ago, EBMUD proposed a plan to extend the height of Pardee Dam by 26 ft which would have provided all the water necessary for another 100 years of unchecked population growth. But a leftist Judge scuttled the plan … because it would wipe out a tiny amount of whitewater rafting river.

26 ft. would have impacted almost ZERO river area of whitewater river rafting. No … the Judge insisted that ALL the water hitting the Sierra go out to the sea. Because that’s … natural. Well tripling California’s population in the last 50 years isn’t “natural” either … you simpleton FOOL.

So EBMUD simply PUNISHES expanded water use and users … even though the expanded water use is for emergency only. Yeah … ALL bureaucracies are the enemy.

  2. I told you so.

The supermajority of leftists who have complete and total control of this State and MOST city and County governments in the State of CA have …

    Declared WAR on suburbia.
    Declared WAR on success.
Declared WAR on prudent personal economics.
Declared WAR on the ‘white’ and ‘white’ adjacent.
    Declared WAR on morality.
    Declared WAR on our schools.
    Declared WAR on the Family
    Declared WAR on the Taxpayer
    Declared WAR on heteronormativity
Declared WAR on the freestanding single family home and property
Declared WAR on ‘The American Way’
Declared WAR on Global Warming “deniers”

Why should this matter to the people of Canada? Because you have a supermajority leftist government as well. This is coming/has already arrived to your country as well.

    1. The Liberals are “Canada’s natural governing party”.
75 0f the last 100 years have been Liberal government.
Canadians abhor freedom and success, so that’s partly why most canadians hate the USA and for those that don’t, there’s the constant media barrage on television..

    2. Well and accurately stated Kenji. We stopped some of this nonsense in our Saskatchewan Rural Municipality but I’m not confident it’s forever. One positive thing is all the complaining by land owners in surrounding RM’s. Word gets around. The Brad Wall sask government was challenged to revisit the NDP legislation by a conservative think tank and make changes. Crickets.

    3. The Chicago Way: the city council and county board pass tough zoning codes, permitting and licensing regulations. There purpose in these tough rules is not for residential or commercial building safety but to fascilitate kickbacks and bribes to government officials who insure your property is grandfathered into the books under old code.

  3. As many have declared here over the last twenty years or more is that little by little, Canadians have been conditioned to believe government is the answer to all problems. The result of the California wildfires was foretold here by many of us who understand that the ultimate aim was for governmental control of everything just as it has been happening in Canada. Time will tell if the American voter is as dumb as his/her Canadian counterparts.have been.
