Daily Sceptic- All Phones to Blast Out ‘Emergency Alarm’ in System Test as Government Warns UK to Prepare for War
Once the alert is sent, all phones in the affected area will make a loud siren-like sound, vibrate, and read out the warning. The sound and vibration will trigger even if your phone is set to silent.
The Government does not need to know your phone number in order to send the message, and all phones will automatically trigger the alert.

Here in the freedom loving USA we have the ability to turn this feature (bug) off, which everybody rightfully does.
But in Canaduh we are not allowed to do that. Big Daddy knows what is best for us.

Can I opt-out of receiving alerts?
No. Given the importance of warning the Canadian public of imminent threats to the safety of life and property, it is not possible to opt out of receiving alerts.
I have turned off every setting possible and still get blasted with emergency alerts.
Huh. My 15 year old iPhone 5 isn’t afflicted w/ this crap…
These And discriminate alarms or public nuisance and serve no useful purpose whatsoever. There an invasion of personal privacy and harmful to people who are trying to sleep or in the hospital or in a situation where they have to be quiet. I can see an opportunity here to develop an app that intercepts these pointless messages and stops them from sounding.
To me it’s preposterous the government can think that it can invade our private space at its pleasure for no benefit to anyone I can imagine.
In Alberta we’ve had Amber Alerts sent throughout the province when one or maybe two children have been thought to possibly be in danger. Ignoring the fact that at that very moment probably 10s or even hundreds of children in the province are at some risk or another the fascination with this one particular case, usually involving law enforcement seems to lack perspective. Add to the fact that almost 100 percent of the people being disturbed are nowhere near the incident or in any way involved this can be seen to be even more preposterous. Imagine if you’re on a holiday in Mexico and this Amber Alert blasted out on your phone because you have a number in the area in consideration.
I’m sure that in somebody’s small mind somewhere this is a very important exercise but I think for most of us who are being bothered this is just one more abuse of power by some nameless bureaucrat with no common sense, but a huge sense of purpose and a flimsy excuse.
Well that’s really annoying. I dictated that message and I noticed that it was a bit garbled so I was editing it and all of a sudden it seems the time window ran out and threw away my hard work.
The cold war air raid siren system redux and now improved and reduced to the stupid smart phones you are tethered to.
Yours truly, a land line guy, who records your call and doesn’t call back.
Heh,stick with phones that let you pull the battery.
Funny how “government help” is turning the convenience of the “mobile phone” into an obnoxious pain in the butt, while making us pay for it.
Wasn’t it Apple that had someone wearing earphones turned super-low (he mostly wanted the noise canceling IRRC) who suffered permanent and severe hearing loss when an emergency broadcast cranked the volume to max before stroking a siren in his ears? 7 figure settlement to the lawsuit I think.
There it is… https://www.vice.com/en/article/apple-airpods-hearing-damage-lawsuit-emergency-amber-alerts/
Did anyone ever say bureaucracy is clumsy?
To avoid this constant government nannying and surveillance, don’t carry a cell phone around with you. We didn’t used to.
It’s a Mossad operation. Tonight I’m removing the explosive charge they hid in my phone.
