The Great Ship Chinada

Cruise Mapper;

The new cruiseferry of STENA LINE has been taken off the Holyhead-Dublin route for repairs and maintenance due to engine problems – just 4 months after entering service. The ship Stena Estrid (building cost EUR 185 million) started on the route in January 2020 after being built at China’s AVIC Weihai Shipyard performing its maiden voyage as Storm Brendan raged.

Via Harman Bhangu;

The Stena Estrid broke down just months after launch—engine failure, pulled off route, major delays.

It was built at AVIC Weihai Shipyard—now called China Merchants Jinling, the same state-owned yard the NDP just hired to build BC’s new ferries.

Eby is outsourcing billions to a shipyard with a track record of breakdowns—and ties to China’s military-industrial complex.

The right people got paid, that’s all that matters.

  1. The NDP have years of failures on their doorstep, tragic outcomes for everyone on the Hastings St. strip, crime up, healthcare wait times up, a housing crisis (I know, “get in line BC”), debt massively up and BC possibly on their way to gaining “have not” status within the federal gov’t equalization scheme, they’re not likely to have to face the consequences of this offshoring of the BC ferries build for at least 5 years, so even if the NDP had to face a real media storm over this it’ll be someone else’s problem.
The electorate of BC’s problem for sure, but not “this” electorate, but “that” electorate.

Unless it actually sinks. That’ll be to big to ignore.

I’m not saying this doesn’t matter, only that there’s a lot on the BC NDP’s plate and this’ll just have to wait as there’s no shortage of crisis’ here.

  2. I wonder, since these are effectively being built by the Chinese military, will they have remotely triggered scuttling charges built into the hull? How would we ever know? Wasn’t there something something about Chinese built solar panels recently?

  3. The Chrystia Freeland has asked the NDP leader Eby about this… but Canada with a dysfunctional media… well what are we to do?

“Yesterday, @cafreeland said in QP that she had written Premier David Eby about his plan to allow BC Ferries to buy 4 ships from a Chinese state owned shipyard. I immediately requested in the House that she share the letter and make it public.

    People deserve that transparency.”

The idea of the most transparent federal gov’t ever, seems to be catching on in the provinces.
    uff

  4. I have American power tools that I bought in the 1970s that work just fine. After a few years, most of my Chinese made tools are long deceased. Good luck with the Communist ferry.

    1. “Good luck with the Communist ferry.”
That’s what Americans said when Canada elected Blackie.

  5. CCP = communist cesspool party
LDGB = lib dip green blockhead consortium
They are all the same pile
They all stink equally as bad

  6. Kind of makes you wonder about China’s mighty military, doesn’t it? One thing the US is showing the world? Our stuff works.

    1. The Chicoms target cities. The Americans target one window in a building in the middle of a city.

Also, the American stuff usually goes when you push the go button. Just sayin’.

    2. Great imitators…terrible innovators. They’re credited with inventing gunpowder which they thought was pretty cool for fireworks. Europe discovered that by tweaking it a bit walls would come down.

    3. Well … except we SUCK at building humanitarian floating docks constructed to deliver Food AID for Hamas to disburse with a 100% profit.

      1. I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy in Delaware.
I’m pretty certain some friend of the Biden Cartel profited handily from that failed enterprise.

        1. One would think that people who spend so much time on a beach … would know something about wave action ??

  7. Remember the “Fast Ferries”? The NDP put together a shipbuilding consortium of themselves and their friends and turned out some sexy-looking boats that went fast, but were unsuitable for the narrow waterways along the route. Tied up for years, sold for a song, and worth only the scrap price of aluminum.

    Will history repeat itself?

  8. L – The Canadian ship of state, out of its depth, stranded at sea, an economic hole in its side
and taking on water. But passengers, don’t you worry, your caliph… err, captain and crew have the hold chock full of fentanyl precursors!

Hey, you there Alberta and Saskatchewan! Don’t abandon ship! Stay away from those two lifeboats. You have options: 1. The federal government will provide trans surgery. Which can turn you a province like Wuhan… Or 2. M.A.I.D. …

  9. What should we expect from the communist party of British Columbia (AKA – NDP) but support for the great communist regime that enslaves the people of China and is our number one threat in today’s world.

To not recognize this evil will be our undoing.

    1. Carl, you are so right.
While our media and politicians of all stripes bemoan the eeevil American tariffs, there is nary a peep about the CCP tariffs on Canola, pork, and seafoods. This silence is the biggest scandal of the whole trade hysteria.
Some Canadians are more equal than others.

Re. the ships – at least they are not being built by the eeevil Americans.
If we had a media, we might have a country. If the media goes apoplectic, the politicians fall over themselves to appear to be doing something. (covid, et.al) If the media ignores a problem, it does not exist, no matter how many Little People it bankrupts.

    2. I understand your government has some business relationships with the Iranian Theocracy … perhaps you could open up the Iranian canola market?
