  1. You also should never eat canola. This would be a good time for farmers to grow something useful instead.

    1. The end of the canola market will be the best thing to come of this.

Sometimes for moments I wonder if Trump is really playing 4D+ chess and targeting real problems like this.

Of canola and soy are eliminated, you have a giant boost in both human and animal health, reduction in land degradation, reductions in chemical consumption, possible eliminations of Alzheimer’s and dementia, reduced cancer and obesity. It’s going to hurt the pharmaceutical giants (including the ones acting as agricultural inputs).

Most farmers don’t feed cities because most farmers don’t produce food anymore.

  2. Awesome! The DOW is DOWN 715 points today!! Fantastic! And I am still standing-by … cash in hand … ready to buy the deeper dip … because I know the American Stock Market will crater even LOWER as we lurch toward the April 2 D-Day and beyond. Right on BABY! It’s going just as I predicted! The BIG (leftist) Pension Funds and other behemoth institutional investors are SELLING SELLING SELLING !!! mainly to “punish” the Trump Admin. for interfering with their globalist corporations … wahhh wahhh wahhh … but make no mistake their trading desks will ALSO buy the dip they’ve created.

I RARELY get gold-plated buying opportunities like this … because I’m just a nobody, retail investor who gets trampled by the big boys. But I know their game and I’m gonna do what race drivers do … I’m drafting with em … I’ve got my cash ready to deploy … and I will go hard when my own personal BUY signals all go off!

Thank you Trump! I haven’t had a BUY opportunity like this since Dr. Fauxci SHUT DOWN the entire US economy. This is FANTASTIC!!

Maybe there will LOTS of panicky 401k investors who Panic Sell instead of waiting out this FALSE “correction”. Please!! Sell, sell, SELL!!! Crash the market!! That’ll show that rotten Orangemanbad!

        1. Kenji, what the indexes show is that everything is down: DOW, S&P, Nasdaq. Bitcoin is also down about 4%. The only thing rising is gold. All of these indexes have been on a steady decline since about mid-February.

And forget about tech being any kind of safe haven. The biggest declines have all been Amazon, Tesla, and Google. It will be interesting to see how long Trump’s government can hold out before the internal pressure from the big US investment firms and trusts insist on putting a stop to the trade war.

Trump’s economic advisors are not very bright. A couple of Congressmen in 1930 decided to use tariffs as a way of redressing trade issues. The result was the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, and it created chaos and a global depression for a decade. It’s unclear to me why Trump would imagine that repeating this disaster would have a different outcome.

          1. The world couldn’t be any more different than 1929. And … America actually had manufacturing and a middle class in 1929. And was coming through the BOOM of all Booming decades. The greatest buildings and architecture in the nation (certainly in CA) were built in the 1920’s.

Everything is different today. Everything. Anyone, anyone … ?

  3. West under bus, East…riding and driving bus……..fare paid by the West. West pays and East benefits…..equalization etal……Canada. Its broken and toast.
West, collect funds, taxes, CPP, anything else, WE KEEP IT HERE….WE DO NOT REMIT anything re equalization etc to EAST.
Over contributions to CPP, ALBERTA is OWED, PAY IT TO ALBERTA………Sask as well possibly.
Hold funds “out” here, use here, and screw the East parasites……..WE Are Done and Done……the extortion game is over. GO AWAY Quebec etal….fund your own stuff.
HELL, we have been paying you all extortion money (equalization) from when the Equalization game started….DONE…..fund your stuff….yourselves……WE ARE OUT….WE ARE….DONE.

    1. Alberta should have taken over CPP around 30 years ago when it was broke. Contributions were like 3.8 % instead of today’s 11% and every penny ever contributed had been paid out. I can guarantee one thing, if Alberta took over its own pension plan, Alberta ain’t getting a penny out of the federal government.

  4. Francisco your analysis is so correct! Help for the Auto sector in the East! And no help for the food sector in the West! And Liberals wonder about Canada’s Unity or likely they don’t give a dam!

  5. $920 million worth of Canola Meal and $21 million worth of Canola Oil.
$486.6 Million worth of Pork Products
$303.6 Million worth of pea exports (dry an fresh)

Now taxed by China at up to 100%.

$1.96 B worth of vehicles were imported to Canada from China in 2023, representing about 5.12% of the market, most of which were probably Chinese Teslas

    1. only saving grace is china imports much more raw canola than meal, i see them doing more value added work on their side of the pond, im sure plenty of other countries will want our meal and oil by the time its on that side of the pacific for a small margin higher than its currently sold.

  6. “Step one: Lift the tariffs on Chinese EVs. Step two: Re-engage with China diplomatically, and quickly. If the goal is to become more economically autonomous and less dependent on the United States, as some in Ottawa have hinted, then it’s time to act like it”

Because nothing screams “more economically autonomous and less dependent” like crawling on your knees back to the only nation in Canada’s trade wars who is actually doing Canada real, tangible economic harm right now, and apologizing for straying from their path. The only thing China truly wants from Canada is proximity, and maybe a little potash, oh.. and to drive a wedge between them and their sole credible protector.

  7. Personally, I would prefer to see our cities sacked by American troops than Chinese.
As far as who would give us more economic freedom, well, either would be better than the lickspittle corruptocrats who currently run the country.
I don’t think there is any saving the west. It will fragment, and the entire hemisphere with the exception of the USA has gone into terminal woke decline, and even the USA is currently fighting for its life, which is more than I can say for anyone else.

    1. I think I would prefer that our Canadian women be raped by American soldiers rather than be raped by Chinese troops. Rape has always been part of war.

      1. Looking back through the pages of the UCMJ, it seems that the US military actually takes a rather dim view on r*pe, as well as any servicemen who would participate in such an act. I cannot speak for the Chinese, perhaps the PLA has battalions dedicated to the act.. I don’t know, but I doubt it. That being said, I fail to understand the point behind your post, but I personally would prefer that Canadian cities remained ‘un-sacked’ by anybody’s troops.. either foreign or domestic, and of course their women not be defiled by either.
