  1. Carney isn’t buying anything. That requires an act of parliament. Parliament isn’t going to be sitting until after the next election.

    1. Agreed, he’s not buying anything.

      a) the article says most of the money is not new funding, but was previously approved under past budgets and not yet allocated.

      b) it’s a old Liberal trick to re-package and re-announce previous spending proposals to make it look like they’re doing something.

      1. So, same thing that they did so they could say “We put $1 billion into addressing border issues! Elbows up!” to make it look like they were doing something to make US tariffs look unjustified. You and I know it’s all BS, but it plays well to the low info, low intellect, Canadian public.

    1. pete
That was my first thought, and they will find out Russia and China are eons ahead in hyper-sonic technology.

      1. Like a fish finder and no fishing rod.
Like a trail camera and no gun.
Like a Prime Minister and no votes.

    2. Why am I worrying that the detection system will be re-tuned and turned to detect disobedient Canadians? I think it has something to do with Australia’s totalitarian response to COVID.

      1. Because you’re a moron who does not understand how radar works or because you’re desperately want to sound funny and witty?

  2. “The $6 billion to develop the Australian technology will set up a more “sophisticated” and robust threat detection system and was already booked in the Trudeau government’s plan to modernize the joint Canada-U.S. North American air defence co-operation alliance, known as Norad.”

So it’s just a retread of another Trudeau plan, which won’t be ready until 2029 at the earliest

  3. Of course we need it. Isn’t Trump going to nuke us first before the annexation invasion?

  4. That’ll wind up like the ongoing naval destroyer program. The cost is currently $7 billion per ship while the US paid $2.5 billion each for similar ships.

    1. The UK type 26 Frigate which is what the destroyers are based on are 850 million GBP each, or about $1.5 billion CAD each.

But then Irving Shipyards wouldn’t get enough graft out of it at that price.

      1. How dare you single out and accuse a private family living in a have not province of graft. Especially since they are down on their luck. They don’t even own all the English language newspapers in NB any more. Imagine the PTSD from seeing your family criticized publicly for the first time in 100 years. It’s a real shame how they’re treated. They can’t even travel in public. They have to take the more expensive private jets. It breaks my heart.

  5. Hey, early detection…it provides a primary target where there’s not a population.

Could spend a million and pretend it’s an early detection system, and it would do the same thing.

  6. We know fat Donnie’s servile little Canadian con cuck wouldn’t do anything like that unless he was given explicit orders from the white house first

    1. Psssst … Australia! The ChiCom missiles are coming from inside the house …
      Same with Canuckistan

      1. KK (King Karney) was in Keyloana and Edmunchuk early in his leeder ship Efort. Both places that were early trials for the Tell Us and WhoWhaWay joint venture Five jee monitoring systems. Koinkydink?

    2. Isn’t Australia that country that is surrounded by over a billion people that wouldn’t hesitate for one second to invade that place, rape and pillage and murder everybody there in order to take their land? And isn’t Australia the country that so stupidly did a massive, Canadian style, gun grab, in order to disarm all of its own people?

      1. Of course they have to confiscate all the guns, Mr. Greg.

If China invades Australia, they don’t want anyone to get hurt. Safety first. That’s why they are issuing foam pool noodles** to every citizen for self-defense.

**In a remarkable display of fiscal responsibility, the Oz goobermint nixed issuing pillows and instead went with the equally effective, but less expensive pool noodles, thus saving billions of dollars… which savings the pollies pocketed.

  7. President Trump’s tarrific plan to incentivize Canada to increase defence spending is genius.

    1. Yup.
Suddenly all this pretend defence spending,by the liberals and applauded by the “Presstitutes”.
So are they conceding that President Trump is right all along?

Suddenly Liberals are “The Defenders of Canada”,after nearly a century of starving, abusing and shrinking our military?

And Trump has not even imposed any tariffs yet.
Amazing… “Bad Orange Man” points out how defenceless, dishonest and weak Canada is …
Canada spazzs out ,”How dare you call us ..what we are?”
Shrieks, flings faeces, call Americans all kind of vile names…
And then start pretending to rebuild our national defence.
      All this from “Nasty tweets”..

  8. Great, great, a warning system.
They can then assemble the pea shooters and slingshots for the primary attack system

  9. Excellent news IMO. First off, the JORN system is state of the art. The US was in line to purchase it originally, but the unofficial protocol down at the Pentagon is currently, “No new toys until you pass an audit.” Canada purchasing this system is just what the current administration has been trying to get other countries to do. More good news is that the UK is, also, throwing their hat into the ring and considering a purchase. Another win IMO as the current administration has been trying to get the UK and the EU to look to their own defense without relying on the US.

One other thing. The price tag isn’t $6 Billion. It’s $6.5 Billion. And, it’s the biggest defense export ever by Australia. Also, good news for them.

  10. a national emergency will soon be declared …..
carnage will be declared dictator ….
and there won’t be any more bothersome (S)elections …. jmho
it’s the final stage of marxist commies

  11. Carney has not spoken to Trump since he was sworn in as prime minister last week.

That’s the sentence that stuck out the most to me when reading the article. Presumably, tariffs are on everyone’s mind. The fragile Canadian economy is a strong issue across the provinces. The relationship between the US and Canada is strained and becoming more so. And, yet, there hasn’t been any attempt at communication between the leaders. Gamesmanship from both sides, obviously. Carney can’t initiate the call because he’ll appear weak in advance of a perceived election. Trump has no ambition to call Carney presumably because he hasn’t truly been elected, and doing so would only result in non-productive platitudes and a Canadian leader in no position to make promises or statements reflective of the office until elected.

Still, it’s rather intriguing to watch.

  12. Seems though the plebeians are positively giddy with the unelected guy that pretends to be Prime minister.
There will be no demonstrations of disapproval.
    Everything is cool.
That is how dicktatorship (sic) works.

  13. A step in the right direction. Nowhere near enough but a necessary investment.

    1. Your stupidity knows no boundaries. This money will never be spent on this.
We can’t even live up to our NATO obligations and haven’t for almost 70 years, mostly under Liberal rule as they knew the Americans would keep us safe from the commies.

  14. Carney talking to Trump would end with him being publicly humiliated.
He knows it, everyone knows it and there is likely a betting pool on when tte dressing down will take place with a 50-50 draw on what name Trump will give him.
    I’m guessing Pee Wee Carney.

  15. “Given the geopolitical environment, given the fact that there are options, given the need for value for money, given the possibility of having substantial production of alternative aircraft in Canada, as opposed to, say, as we have been sending on average 80 cents of every dollar to the United States, it’s prudent and in the interests of Canada to review those options,” he said.”

Somebody please tell me where this “alternative aircraft production in Canada” is located.
And the assembled MSM minions say nothing…

    1. Viking Air?
A whole fleet of “The Fastest twin Otters evah”?
Naturally the Liberals will use this “Emergency” as an opportunity to give more handouts to their old comrades at Bombardier..
