  1. Ever since the time of Catherine the Great, Russia has wanted/needed a warm water port on the Black Sea. That was the first invasion of Ukraine. Then in the 1850’s, Great Britain went to war with Russia over Crimea again (the Charge of the Light Brigade, Florence Nightingale and all that). Russia covers a large landmass and has been invaded from the West many times (Old Man Winter always saves them). They are paranoid because of their history. They are NOT giving up Crimea or the Donbass, just not in the cards.
Ukraine has not covered itself in glory either. Zelensky and his family would put the Mafia to shame with all of their grifting.

    1. ” They are paranoid because of their history. They are NOT giving up Crimea or the Donbass, just not in the cards.”

Exactly so, JJM. Anyone who knows anything about the Russian national psyche recognized this years ago, and Putin’s popularity at home wouldn’t baffle and confound the warmongers here so much if they took the time to read some history. We won’t know for some time just how many lives were needlessly lost in the last two years because of the stubborn intransigence of those who desperately sought to keep this fiasco going, but I hope they are publicly identified and shamed (if not prosecuted).

  2. Learn more about Trump and geo-politics in half an hour from VDH than you would if you read every Canadian Liberal MSM ‘analyst’ and watched every Canadian politics show.

He really does cut through the BS and get right to the heart of the matter, doesn’t he?

      1. Hanson’s view was garbled re Trump and Ukraine.

        – Not fair to accuse Trump of appeasement because the others pragmatically appeased Putin first.
        – Look, Trump was a tough guy; supported Ukraine and deterred Russia.
        – But Trump should now pragmatically appease Putin.
        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When an interview is just two guys agreeing with each other it doesn’t have much more value than antagonistic gotcha ambushes from the opposing club. It would be nice to see a civilised discussion between Hanson and someone of similar demeanor from the other side. If there is anyone . . .

        1. “– But Trump should now pragmatically appease Putin.”

It’s not appeasement, it’s just pragmatism.

This ends no other way, and everyone with an IQ above double digits knows it.

  3. He has ALL Canadian politicians and media running in an ever decreasing circle.
    The end result stinks.
Advice to politicians. When the hole is getting too deep to crawl out of “stop digging”

  4. VDH is great at explaining the Big Picture but he sometimes misses an important factor. He doesn’t recognize the latter day loyalist knee jerk reaction of Canucks to MAGA’s “ugly American” bombast .. and similar push-back in Europe. Of course it is good to dress down establishment politicians as Vance did, but attacking the populace of a failing nation is counterproductive to people wising up and voting out their own Obamas, Bidens, et al.

    1. Many Canadians are indeed are doing that knee jerk reaction but those are almost surely all “orange man bad” folk. Do the Canadians here on SDA react that way? Here’s one who hope it helps hasten government change and thinking change in Canada by the experience of the smack on the bottom.
      Insightful video btw.

  5. Can VDH explain stuff or what? I now understand the Greenland issue and the tariff against Canadian commodities. The government can’t argue against Trump using facts so let’s get on a patriotic high horse. All my friends think any Liberal-imposed price rises in US products are Trump’s fault. Another smoke screen foisted on Canadians by Liberals and their media…another of many, of course.

  6. Another useful perspective (literally) on Greenland can be gained by opening Google Maps (or similar) and zooming out in the default Mercator projection. There’s giant Greenland sat off to one side – what’s it got to do with America? Then switch to Globe view. Ah; Greenland is basically the biggest island off of northern Canada. It has everything to do with America.
