Gout is often associated with drinking too much or not eating healthily enough, but research suggests genetics play more of a factor in developing the arthritic condition than previously thought.[…]
“Gout is a chronic disease with a genetic basis and is not the fault of the sufferer – the myth that gout is caused by lifestyle or diet needs to be busted,” said epidemiologist Tony Merriman from the University of Otago in New Zealand, when the study was published last year.
Pssst … everything is down to genetics … EVERYTHING. Like being born with a pennnis doesn’t make you a woman.
In my life, I’ve met a surprisingly large number of people with French backgrounds who’ve suffered from gout.
I guess I have enough; swedish, german, scottish, and english to counteract my frenchie. I’m the classic Euro-mutt … the kind of BORING 23 and Me that my exotic-ethnic in-Law kids mock mercilously
I thought they all get it. Don’t they say, “Chacun a son gout”?
Correlation means causation????
How about this?
Masters degrees awarded in education correlates with US bank failures

I suspect someone, somewhere, will produce a DNA study that shows (proves) obesity it genetic.
Obesity is genetic.
We’re programmed by selection pressure to pack on weight as fast as possible in times of abundance, to help survive the inevitable times of famine that will follow. It’s only since agriculture and the introduction of mass-produced food that a significant percentage of the population world-wide are overweight.
That’s funny, My brother developed gout when he lived off nothing but deli meat and mtn dew.
Went away as soon as he stopped eating BMTs and keeping salami in the house, got some vegetables.
Try tart cherry extract to clear up gout in about 15 mins. as an alternative to big pharma prescriptions. You can get this at a health food store or tart cherry juice from some grocery stores.
This paper is not as ground breaking as the article author tries to make it. It’s been known for a while that both environmental and genetic factors are in play, like this paper:
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41584-018-0004-x
Presumably the study has increased our understanding of the genetic component, but it doesn’t mean environmental factors do not play a part.
Looking through the articles, it appears that Science Alert is prone to sensationalism.
The news article (not the study) comes out the day after RFK Jr is confirmed.
It’s not diet that makes us unhealthy, it’s our genes.
The start of a Big pharma and the processed food industry campaign to undermine RFK?
That would be my bet.
Where would we be without experts? Happier.
Gout is an imbalance of the ph in your body and can be rectified easily by adjusting to a more alkaline diet. It is an easy fix, drink lemonade, eat more green leaf, stay away from too much meat, wine, sugar etc and voila it gets fixed. Add some more magnesium to your diet (250 mg) and your bones will absorb nutrients better to help adjust ph.
