    1. Trump is real good at business, he has a very good grasp of economics, but when it comes to trade, he’s ignorant. He considers the trade deficit of $200 B per year to be a subsidy of Canada.

      Bullshit!

Firstly, they have nearly 10 times the population that we have, which means 10 times as many consumers so there’s no way we could buy as much from them as they do from us.

Second, most of that is oil and gas, which they need. If you remove those from the equation, it turns out that the trade deficit goes the other way, to the tune of more than $50 B. worth of goods coming to Canada than we ship south. (Not sure about the accuracy of that number.)

I applaud just about everything Trump is doing in the US, except the tariffs. That is just totally irrational and ignorant.

      1. The US only needs Canada’s oil and gas because when the liberals take power in the US they virtue signal by shutting down American sources of energy even though we have to then buy our oil and gas from other sources like Canada (and worse, places with more political implications like the Middle East).

        Easy fix.

      2. Dirtman-
Trade deficits are paid for with an outflow of capital ( savings ). A mature economy should be increasing savings, not blowing it on imports.

Whether a country needs the imports does not change that fact.

The fastest way for Canada to end this is an immediate no confidence vote in Parliament, and removal of Trudeau.

Everything could be worked out with a NON – GLOBALIST premier. This is about national security for Trump.

Shouldn’t any President have national security as his first concern?

  1. For the last four years the official policy of the US government was “all are welcome.”

If the US didn’t want illegal immigration the US should have stopped it. It’s not Canada or Mexico’s job to decide who can or cannot enter the US.

    1. That’s Biden’s doing. Trudeau is cut from the same cloth. By the way, I’d suggest you look into the Safe Third Country Agreement. Trump is now in control. It’s time for both Canada and Mexico to pay the price because both countries were not only allowing, but encouraging transit through their countries for entry into the U.S.

      1. Art

        The US wanted that immigration.
Why should Canada and Mexico “pay the price” for something the US wanted? Perhaps Trump should charge Democrats for permitting illegal immigration?

I have no idea why the Biden government, and Dems in general want lots of immigrants.

Perhaps it’s because the US birth rate is 1.66 per woman, which is less than the population replacement value of 2.1 births per woman.

Perhaps it was Dems trying to secure an electoral advantage over the Republicans.

But the decision on number of immigrants, and who gets in and who doesn’t, is an American decision, and not a Canadian or Mexican decision.

The US should control its own borders and not blame others for what was an American government decision.

        1. However, Canada has had a similar lax immigration policy. Getting into Canada totally unvetted is a first stop to entering the US illegally. Apparently, more people on the terror watch list have entered the US from Canada than Mexico. Those that have been caught that is.

          1. How do they know the number of people on the terrorist watch list even entered the country by land or sea, when no one was there to document them. Countries have never monitored they outflow of people via land routes. Thirty years ago, I was stopped by a US border guard, while I inadvertently strolled the beach at Tsawwassen into Point Roberts territory, tide out, far from any border marking cairns. If they had been as stern as they were that day in the intervening years, they wouldn’t have the issues they have today.
I understand why Trump is doing what he’s doing, but he is a bully and our politicians are cowards with the intellect of children.

    2. So, Trudeau has been allowing only the finest people in as immigrants? Ha, ha. And let’s talk about the red Chinese agents throughout Canada. Canada under Trudeau has become a threat to US national security.

      1. Under Biden and the Democrats, the US said “Come one come all. All are welcome.”

In 2023 the US issued 417,000 non-immigrant visas to mainland (i.e. red) China.
        Plus 47,000 to Hong Kong.
How many are Chinese government agents?

Scroll to the bottom of the pdf file for totals.

In 2023 the US issued 1,387,000 non-immigrant visas to India. How many stayed?

On immigration, Trumpy’s arguments should be with Democrats, not other countries. Dems even said they weren’t illegals, they’re just undocumented. Personally I think that was stupid of the Dems.

All over the world, people did what the US wanted them to do; they came to America.

It was an American decision to let them in and to let them stay.

    3. Perhaps, but we could help keep the wogs away entirely.
And stop supplying drugs to street people.
Good neighbor stuff, do you remember that sort of thing.?

From here I can’t tell if he’s coasting to 9th of March, the day of the new #Librano leader
Some have mentioned the two having a meeting, though I think The Turd™ is just phoning it in, without too much more to add to the conversation and countervailing tariffs. It’s worse than negotiating with someone you don’t like, to negotiate with someone you don’t respect.

The President appears to have entered the FAFO phase of negotiations

  3. woke leftist culture is getting the beat down it wholeheartedly deserves.

    Thank you President Trump !!!

    1. Puhleeze. I cannot go to a Wells Fargo instateller anywhere in Canada. I cannot go into a Wells Fargo Bank anywhere in Canada and make more complicated transactions.

Several US banks have operations in Canada. But they offer only wealth management or corporate services.

Don’t you READ the articles you post?

    2. That is a typical Canadian liberal half assed effort.
Q: Why do Liberals let Google do their thinking?
      1. Too lazy to do it themselves
      2. Google is smarter
      3. The government hasn’t got a program to do it
      4. All of the above

      A: 4

  4. Trump wants to renegotiate the USMCA. He was saying that back in October. At the six year mark in Jul 2026 it is possible to ask for a review. But he wants to do it now. Well, within the agreement is the stipulation that one of the participants can break it for national security reasons. So, he finds a national security issue to allow him to impose tariffs, which will bring Canada and Mexico to agree to having the USMCA renegotiated before 2026. Listen to the statement to Fox when asked about the EU, not timeline but soon. He is wanting to get things done quickly.

Is this issue really immigration and fentanyl? Probably in part and certainly where Mexico is concerned, but they are not the biggest issues for him. Vance mentioned yesterday that we are not honouring our defence spending commitments. Look for this to be something that comes out in renegotiations. And on the economic side look for things like dairy, telecommunications and banking (as he just said) to be key points of discussion in the new negotiations.

The border and fentanyl are only springboards for Trump to talk about all the other things he wants addressed. Thinking that simply solving these will make the US happy is incorrect.

    1. “The border and fentanyl are only springboards for Trump to talk about all the other things he wants addressed. Thinking that simply solving these will make the US happy is incorrect.”

That’s true, but stubbornly refusing to address the border and fentanyl issues gives Trump exactly the ‘national security’ issue you mentioned as an excuse to break the USMCA. Hiding behind the flag while you do so will only make things worse.

Rumor circulating that Justin Trudeau has locked himself in his office and can be heard crying. //
Given this sort of output, I’d go elsewhere for confirmation.

  6. This is Trudeau’s plan. The Liberals want to be seen as “Captain Canada” fighting for Canadians against the “evil” Trump. The idea is that Canadians will vote for the Liberals. Trudeau will fight to the last Canadian dollar (free money to all Canadians impacted by the US tariffs–a policy which will water down our currency until the face value of the play money in Monopoly will actually be worth more).

    1. “Man oh man! Just wait till Pee-Pee grabs an apple and takes him on mano a mano!”

His handling of this crisis so far clearly exposes both his judgment and his character.
