Get Losta, Acosta

Report: Acosta out at CNN

“The anchor, I’m told, signaled to associates in private conversations over the weekend that he intends to depart the network after its chief executive, Mark Thompson, booted him from the morning programming lineup — a move that conspicuously coincided with Donald Trump’s return to power.

“CNN brass, as we first reported earlier this month, decided to strip Acosta of his 10am show, which he has anchored to great ratings success over the last 11 months, at times even seeing higher viewership than programs in the channel’s prime time bloc. Acosta was instead offered the less-than-desirable option of anchoring a show from midnight until 2am ET. CNN pitched the gig to Acosta as anchoring during prime time on the West Coast and said he could move to Los Angeles to host the program. But the reality is the program would have aired at a time in which cable news viewership is at its lowest levels.”

  1. Acosta’s ego wrote cheques that his intellect just couldn’t cash. Good riddance.

Next up…Joy Reid, Sunny Hostin and that Rachel Maddow guy.

(although Kaitlin Collins would be my first pick if it were up to me)

  2. “…which he has anchored to great ratings success over the last 11 months, at times even seeing higher viewership than programs in the channel’s prime time bloc.”

This is another way of saying that sometimes Gary Coleman could run faster than Stephen Hawking. Here, look at this:

(((CNN’s primetime lineup plunged -62% in total viewers (1.79 million) and -72% in the demo (522,000))))

No exaggeration. The Food Network was pulling in more viewers than the CNN prime time line-up.

    1. Come on now. Jim had “the best ratings on the network” which is kind of like that old joke about running faster than your friend when a bear is chasing you.

  3. I’m with Acosta! He deserves a promotion, and should become CNN’s top anchor. Then CNN will return to nonstop, over the top TDS. That outta seal the fate of the dinosaur network

Yeah, Acosta (and Tapper, and Collins, et al…) really IS that dumb. The owners of CNN, however, are not. They’ve seen their ratings and revenue plummet and realize the folly of continuing to do the same tired old TDS thing when the public is clearly rejecting it.

Some of this may even be due to the fact that Trump himself seems to be, if not ‘mellowing’, then at least moderating himself and his opinions (at least in public). This is what I and many others have always wanted from him…to act with some gravitas, like he takes the job seriously. I have always liked what Donald Trump *did* as President, just not the way he sometimes spoke or acted. If I were American I would have voted for him all three times anyway, but I would be more proud to admit it now. The Democratic attacks on him now are half-hearted at best; aside from them still being stunned at the size of his win he has given them very little ammunition against him to work with.

It’s going to be a very interesting four years. I hope Canada gets with the program.

  4. CNN is just making sure Acosta is unable to hector Trump. Can’t stalk Trump at 2:00 am.

Acosta’s rude, combative, stupid “have you stopped beating your wife” “you’re evil and doing it all wrong” lectures to Trump jazzed up CNN’s core demographic, the batshit crazy demographic. But it turned off their legacy viewers who still had 3 or 4 functioning brain cells.

And here they are. As Orson pointed out above, CNN’s ratings are lower than the Food Net work.

  5. I suppose I should actually care but truth be told I haven’t watched CNN for so long I couldn’t pick out any of their on air personalities if they were in a police line up.
