Online retail giant Amazon is pulling out of Quebec, a spokesperson confirmed to CTV News.
The company says it will cease operations over the next two months in seven operation sites, one fulfillment centre, two sorting centres, three delivery stations and one AMXL (extra large) delivery station that is co-located with a sorting centre.
Barbara Agrait, a spokesperson with Amazon, denies that the decision was made following the unionization of 200 employees at Amazon’s DXT4 warehouse in Laval, Que.
This qualifies as a case of FAFO.

The competition can use illegally imported cheap labour so might as well cut a losing proposition right away, lots of workers in canada may soon enjoy this fate, and consumers can enjoy waiting for their packages if they show up at all. Voters spoke and will be getting what they wanted good and hard.

The first time fwenchy got his elbows out and threatened to separate a good number of it’s anglo residents bid adieu along head offices. It looks like the PQ is poised to form government in quebekkie. Maybe Amazon is just voting with their feet. There’s no future there.

Step 4: Quebec secedes (perhaps unilaterally)
Step 5: Alberta is free to go it’s own way.
Step 6: Quebec loses energy exports from Alberta, as the country disintegrates.
Step 7: Alberta joins U.S.?
I hate unions, but I also hate Amazon more. Good riddance to the worst company in the world.
Jeff Bezos is not going to let any union tell him how to do business. It’s his business; he built it, and he runs it. Quebec just lost a shitload of jobs, and they deserve it. Sorry, not sorry.

I don’t know if Amazon is going to farm out the Quebec area deliveries, or if they’re simply going to announce that Quebec has made it difficult to conduct business in their province.
Note these folks were laid off, and not moved to other locations.
We need a right-to-work law in Canada, making membership in unions optional. Half the states in the US have right-to-work. You know, the ones where all the jobs are.
