Even so, only those who needed money like an extra hole in the head could afford EVs and Hybrids regardless of subsidies.

Not unless there is a major breakthrough in battery technology, but for the foreseeable future, cordless power tools and portable technology still favours it.
It’s when its FORCED upon us, like the electric cars were to be, that the problem arises. Let it stand alone on its own merits or let it fail in favour of something better. It would be nice to invest in something because it is GOOD, PROVEN and RELIABLE, not because you have to, just to get your money back, or keep your head above water..

It should. All my 120v/1/60hz power tools work for decades. Battery stuff lasts maybe 7 years, and then the battery can’t be replaced, gotta chuck the whole tool?
Most tool batteries can be rebuilt even after being discontinued.
I rebuilt NiCads for my Hilti SB10.
Also, ebay has sellers that will rebuild them for you. You ship them your batteries, they replace the cells and ship them back.

Government subsidies are taxpayer theft and nothing short of criminal.
Without tariffs, the Chinese EVs would sell for around C $15,000. For urban runarounds until their batteries needed replacing, they could sell quite well. As for the Ontario battery plants, I suspect the government loot is not all spent but it’s game over. I love it!
