We’re From The Government And We’re Here To Help

The company they purchased from was only incorporated weeks before it was selected.

    1. Absolutely, Edward.

We had a little exchange in comments here on SDA about ordering tiny homes from Amazon a few weeks ago. It was pointed out at the time that they were made in China. They had some decent units priced from $10,000 to $12,000, USD I think, and some nicer units in the $20,000 range.

If commenters on SDA can joke around about ordering Chinese-made houses from Amazon, Hamilton certainly could have gone online and bought the houses themself. And at quantity, probably could have bought them at a discount for $10k – $12k Canadian.

Nope. No kickbacks possible when ordering direct so, no can do.

      1. That we are even discussing this is beyond insane. People wonder why I am so down on the stupidity that is Canadian, here you are as usual.

      2. I have said it repeatedly … but many government employees have a side-hustle of selling methods and strategies for defrauding the government and extracting massive illicit sums of taxpayer largesse. My guess is that they take at least a 50% cut for the vig.

    2. Looking at the video Anyone want to bet some of those are recycled Covid shacks from Wuhan or elsewhere?

Answer: Hoo haw, don’t be silly.

  1. I’m guessing that $1,100 should be $11,000 because $1,100 wouldn’t come close to covering the cost of materials, even in China. A simple search came up with a range from $6,000 to $37,000 of Alibaba small houses through Amazon.ca.

    1. I can put together a complete kit to build a wood framed, single story, pitcher roof, 1,100 sq ft, slab on grade, home for $6,000.

      Included

      Simpson tie hardware as needed.
      Two 3⁰4⁰ windows
      One 36×72″ door.

      Not Included
      House wrap
      Sealant
      Insulation
      Roof tiles
      Door lockset
      Toilet
      Interior appliances

      Below grade plumbing and electrical
      Electrical hookup

      1. I can do it for $5,950

But … 1,000 sq.ft.!!?? To paraphrase Obama … who NEEDS 1,000 sq.ft.? Esp. the “unhoused”

  2. what did Thomas Sowell say about bureaucrats and decisions? Why is it that private sector companies have their employees required to take ethics/conflict of interest training yet it seems that governments either don’t require that training, or they do not take enforcement of violations seriously. start an investigation!

  3. The mayor of Hamilton is the former Ontario NDP leader. So wasted money is to be expected.

    1. Her only attribute is dropping a Bush doll on the floor and stomping on it. No intelligence.

That is a tidy profit even taking shipping and delivery into account. A good portion of it must have made its way into Lieberal coffers.

  4. Certainly not $1,100 but it doesn’t matter. Who incorporated 2 weeks before they won the contract because 40 x $35,000 = $1.4 million which is no longer chump change. Somebody is laughing all the way to the bank.

  5. So it’s okay for Hamilton to get ripped off, so long as it’s by Indians. That’s what I take away from this. They seem awfully concerned that it was a fake indian business.

  6. Hangings first.
    Trial later.
When independent persons try to audit this cute little fraud, the city bureaucrats will be “Unable to find those records”.
A pattern with all our Minions of The state.
Yet they only had one job..
    To keep those records.
So whenever a bureaucrat cannot find the records they are paid to have kept, we must assume corruption.
    And hang them.
For were it not corruption, cover for systemic theft, these records would be available to all tax payers.

I suspect “Records will be found” after the first 5 sudden vertical stops.

  7. $1,100 China home, built with the finest toxic materials and first rate organ harvest labor.

Now do the same in Toronto and resale them for $110,000!

  8. 1. Make a non-profit charitable corp.
    2. Solicit donations (with tax receipts, and a nice virtue-signal plaque) from local suppliers like Rona, Chisolm’s, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Castle, Home Hardware or whatever.
    3. Get kids from local trade schools and vocational schools to slap ’em together as part of their schooling, and they can get some pretty plaques, too.

Minimal cost to taxpayers, corpos and schools get to virtue-signal about helping the homeless.
Of course, this would never fly because there’s not enough opportunity for envelopes full of cash to float about.

    1. Very much back in the day, local high school – of which Dad rose to VP – had courses geared to the vocationally-inclined as well as the university-inclined. The vocational kids (okay, boys) were looking at getting apprenticeships at the local industry; one of Dad’s annual chores was sitting them all down and telling them that – much as they didn’t see the need – they DID have to pass all the academic courses (and they were geared to the non-academic) so buckle down and do the work. But the school also gave the vocational kids extras on that side. Every year, the carpentry students built a small but decent house (three bedroom) which would be auctioned off at year-end for someone in the community to acquire. The year Dad retired, sister and husband were able to buy that year’s house which they still have as a cottage.
Vocational training went by the wayside and was almost despised as being to low-class to be considered. Which has done immense damage to young Canadians for whom the trades were and are a natural harbour. Fortunately, this is changing.
