As former finance minister Chrystia Freeland prepares to launch a Liberal leadership bid, a source close to her [that would be Freeland] says scrapping the controversial consumer carbon tax will be one of her policy planks.
“She is ready to make difficult decisions to meet our emissions targets and make sure big polluters pay for their outsized emissions. But she will not fight Canadians on a policy they have been clear, they do not support,” the source tells CTV News. “That’s why Chrystia Freeland will replace the consumer carbon price with a system that will work within our federation and will be developed collaboratively with provinces and territories.”
Meaning, the consumer still pays the carbon tax and she thinks Canadians are idiots.
I hear “cap and trade” in there somewhere. So no benefit, but with a grift, the Liberals will love it.

She is hedging because it was leaked not directly from her but from Mr highly placed unnamed liberal ™.
The back fire may happen if she gets cornered on this and is asked to confirm or deny said rumour.

The carbon tax is the only thing Trudeau can claim as a legacy, to eliminate it is akin to striking his name from liberal history.
Canada is a Confederation, not a Federation. Since the first Trudeau, the Liberals have ruined the country by ruling over Canadians as if the country was a federation.
The country is past being economically broke. If the federal government needs money, change the taxing more of people to shrinking the government.
Try taxing electricity consumption instead of ‘carbon pricing’. That would cast a wider net and be much more fair (13 million Quebecers).
Making up a problem so governments can steal even more of the citizenry’s wealth is criminal.
