Ottawa Citizen- Federal changes could result in a sea change in delivery of primary care
On Friday, federal Health Minister Mark Holland released a long-awaited Canada Health Act interpretation letter and announced a new Canada Health Act Services Policy. The policy, he said, confirms that if a service is considered medically necessary it should be covered by a patient’s provincial or territorial health care plan “whether the service is provided by a physician or a physician-equivalent.”
That means nurse practitioners, midwives and pharmacists could be paid directly through OHIP and other provincial and territorial health care plans, something that, until now, has been reserved for physicians.
More free stuff to fool the gullible Canadian voter.
My guess is this is the start of a future planned program that will be used primarily for taxpayer-funded sex change operations, hard-drug “prescriptions”, and the like.
My thought was that MAID will be at the top of the list, to reduce wait times for everything else.

That was my very first thought when I read the words “medically necessary”. The trans activists (aka child mutilation enthusiasts) seem to love throwing that term around.

I suspect pharmacists give most injections in Alberta followed by LPNs and RNs. Pharmacists have the drugs so just inject it. As an outpatient at the University Hospital in Edmonton, my wife had to go to the hospital pharmacy, buy the drug and bring it back to her specialist to inject. I’m sure the MD scammed another $100 in the process.

I know this is off topic (mostly), but I always had a hard time determining the aggressive motivation to apply Canada’s MAID program. It made no sense to me that such an effort should be made to kill people in an expedited fashion. What was the motivation?

So about the only change is that pharmacists will now get paid by OHIP for giving an injection, instead of getting the $20 cash for doing it? (the only reason to do it at a pharmacist is speed and availability)
Because Midwives were already covered by OHIP if they were your primary care practitioner during pregnancy, and if you are getting an injection at a doctors clinic, and it was done by a LPN or RN, it’s also covered by OHIP.
