Is Trudeau resigning or proroguing on Monday?
This tidbit of news tells us to expect something. pic.twitter.com/tBN8bFpR8V— Brian Lilley (@brianlilley) January 5, 2025
I really would prefer he stay long enough to give the concession speech he so rightfully earned.
Trudeau expected to announce resignation before national caucus meeting Wednesday – The Globe and Mail https://t.co/HHlgDCw559

I’ll bet a Canadian penny (now defunct) that he prorogues, to give the New Liberal Saviour a chance to get acquainted with the MP’s.
I agree100%!
I agree
Dmorris -very surprising if he doesn’t do that
Well, it is Fife after all. Regardless of Trudeau, Fifer is a well connected LIEberal mouthpiece.
I can’t see the narcissist stepping down, but, would be happy to be wrong.
Or he/she declares martial law.
He might declare a climate emergency, and invoke the Emergencies Act.
Prorouge, so he can end his career as the Dictator he desperately has been desiring since he assended the Maple Leaf Throne.
He still has WEF/Black Hats/whomever assignments of destroying Canada left to accomplish…until he is ordered to fall on his kingly sword.
His mission is to set it up to become the 51st state by running up the debt.
Take it from a central banker: we know what we’re doing.
Hey is it just me, or does Brian have the eyes of a fairly heavy drinker. I see the same thing looking in the mirror every morning. Not to criticize , it is what it is
Nope. I have the same eyes and I’m a life-long teetotaller.
It’s just the look of an old guy who doesn’t get enough sleep and maybe has eye muscle problems too.
Nope. Brian is a good guy and a family man.
Prorouge? You Canadians talk funny.
Ohhhhhhh … he’s “punting”. Got it. That’s how my rag-tag rugby team won the Santa Barbara rugby tournament … we had an Irish soccer-playing kid who was our fullback and mannnnn could he punt. Up and under’s, kick to touch. Brendan was AMAZING !! He relieved a LOT of pressure from the opposition by punting … yeah, makes sense for your PM to punt.
I’m going out on a limb, but I think he is going to call an election. I can’t understand why none of the so-called pundits have put this forward as an option. Nearly everyone agrees the man is delusional, so why should he not think he can pull a rabbit out of the hat one more time? After all, he’s gotten away with everything else. To call an election, when no one is expecting him to do so, would prove, in his own mind, just how smart and daring he is. He is going to head everyone off at the pass: no committee meeting on Tuesday to declare non-confidence, no regional or full caucuses on Monday and Wednesday (why would he listen to those nobodies?), no resignation with all the political obituaries declaring him to be a failure and the most reviled prime minister in history, no humiliating leadership campaign which would force him to watch Chrystia likely take his place while all the others put as much distance between them and him as they can. He really thinks he can beat Poilievre, and that he’s the only one who can. He will force his caucus to fall in line and most of them will even if privately they think it’s a lost cause. Besides the named individuals who have come forward, most of the rest haven’t actually put their names out there. They will keep applauding like Stalin’s minions did. He will force them to declare it their patriotic duty to save Canada from the Conservatives. I think he has spent the last three weeks on the ski hills cooking up a campaign strategy with Katie involving a Hail Mary pass (like Universal Basic Income) coupled with a heavy dose of anti-Americanism. He really thinks he can do this. He wants to bask in the glory of the G7, become the most electorally successful PM since Laurier, and remain in office longer than Stephen Harper. Those are his goals, the country be damned. Of course he’s doomed, and everyone outside his bubble knows it, but this is the level of delusion we are talking about. If none of this happens, I will be the first to say that I was completely wrong, but knowing everything we know about him, doesn’t this make sense?
I suspect the same thing, and he’ll do it just because.
I hope you are right.
Are you all not entertained?
Interesting take. He is a such a delusional narcissist you may well be right. My alterant prediction is he resigns and prorogues (sp?) parliament for a leadership convention. Regardless PP will be the next PM. Happy New Year.
Can’t see him calling an election he knows he will lose. At least, I don’t think so.
I agree with you on this. I suspect proroguing is what’s on the cards. This supposedly will provide enough time for the Liberals to select a new leader. (I can’t imagine who would want it, given how thoroughly Justin has sh*t the bed.) He’s not going to run another election; he’s far too much a narcissist to tolerate the thought of losing. What he’s wrestling with is the notion that he will NOT be the greatest and most successful Liberal PM since Wilfrid Laurier a century ago.
So this likely is his version of Daddy’s ‘walk in the snow’.
[deleted. – ED]
Rishi Sunak did just that with completely predictable results.
Dave
Delusion has nothing to do with the Turd, he/she/it is just that stupid!
With any luck, they will copy the Heaven’s Gate cult.
Gee, I hope he’s not going to do anything crazy. Like, you know, a suicide vest in that room full of PMO staff!
Wouldn’t that be awful?
not really , I think staying the course is the worst option.
anyone else hear about the disaster of a ski trip he caused for everyone else.
I think his eye is on the G7 in Kananaskis AB. For the record, and given the same position as The Turd™ finds himself in now … I’d opt to do exactly this just so I could visit beautiful Alberta without being surrounded by protestors who clearly hate everything about me.

Is there an “over/under” for prorogue/resign?
I see dmorris already has a penny on this, I keep a jar of those to use as washers/spacers when installing some plumbing items as they’re particularly corrosion resistant, most of the penny’s corrosion has been gov’t inflicted.
I don’t know yet if current PM of Pedoland UK Keir Starmer will be at the G7 or if he’ll be in jail, or sent to St Helena to live out his days like Napoleon,
yes I know he didn’t spend his time there but that’s where he’s been made to be unalived since.
Left unsaid, What does Xi want El Turd to do?
And the WEF.
I have to admit, as a stupid American, I wasn’t overly informed on Prorogation. However, after doing due diligence, it would seem to me that there are few positive attributes associated with that process. Or, maybe there are positive attributes, but for the most part it seems to be used divisively by those in power. Halting investigations, countering voting blocs, punting down field with the hopes of a change in public opinion over time…
Which leads me to a simple question for you Canucks…. My understanding is that Trudeau would request the prorogue….but your Governor General would have to approve it. So, my question:
Is the current Governor General in Trudeau’s back pocket…or is there a chance it would be declined? I noticed that Harper tried once and was declined after a little grandstanding (wait period) by the Governor General.
It basically is an end to the parliament to have the government come back later with a new agenda with a throne speech (a confidence measure) to reboot.
However all legislative bills not yet given royal assent into law are DOA, and they have to reintroduce the legislation if they can get past the first confidence vote on the throne speech.
Quite right, Joseph.
Orson, any Governor General is bound to accept the recommendation of a Prime Minister. There is zero chance of a request to prorogue being declined by the GG. This was established as an unbreakable principle in the King-Byng Affair of 1925. No GG will ever refuse any legal request by any PM, ever.
Guess who appoints the Governor-General? No, guess. Yup. Gou guessed it, the PM!
Looking for theories are we?
Ok how’s this?
He will announce that he has advised the party to hold a leadership convention in the fall to choose his successor.
Fall like in October when the next election will be called so if the government falls before that he’s still the leader and will be on the ballot.
Telford will be getting the media minions to push the narrative that it would be unfair for the opposition to trigger an election until the liberals can select their next leader.
Jordan Peterson discussed that with Pollievre in a recent (and excellent) podcast. PP’s take was basically, “Nuts to that: the libs have had ample time over the last year to choose a new leader with every castreau screw-up, and that they were fine with all the scandals doesn’t take away the right for the country to go to the polls and vote their displeasure and send the libs packing”. I paraphrase but it’s sound: to hell with giving the libscum more time to set their house in order, they don’t deserve one more minute in power after the permanent damage they’ve done to this country.
Their cabinet can’t go to hell quick enough to suit me.

He’ll step down after a leadership campaign.
Butts has been speculating that the Spawn will resign soon. Some say he wants to hang on until Kananaskis in June (G7) but my optimistic side says that his Christmas ski extravaganza sung to the tune of “Get the F*ck out of BC” may have been this decade’s version of the nation-destroying Trudeau dynasty as his “walk in the snow” moment.
Unlikely, John. June is far too long for a government to operate on warrants with no House of Commons whatsoever. Remember, the Government is still in contempt of the House over its refusal of the demand by the House to turn over documents.
I’m hoping for a Reverend Jimmy Jones kind of thing.
Here’s my prediction: Trudeau has agreed to to step down and hand over the reins to a particular Liberal MP or advisor who has acceded in advance to a particular list of NDP policy demands. In exchange, Singh will put forward the promised non-confidence motion but will ensure that a sufficient number of NDP MPs either vote “nae” or sit out the vote so that the Liberals can hang on until next October.
Good theory, but how about jagmeet is named interm leader, thus, NDP keep parliament going until the fall…..
Hey, that’d work too. If they can toss enough money at Jagmeet I’m sure he’d be down with that.
Witnessing this pathological narcissist in his final death throes is delicious!
Er, he’s in somebody’s death throes, but we sort of have to hope they’re his and not ours.
He’s going to challenge Pollievre to a charity boxing match.

Fife says resignation
The longer he stays on before the inevitable 2025 election, the more damage he does to the Liberal brand. So I want him to stay
His replacement may be worse
Name one – ONE – thing that will change if Justin (PBUH) hands over his premiership to some other member of the Liberal Party. NAME ONE THING.
ONE.
I rest my case.
The longer he stays on before the inevitable 2025 election, the more damage he does to the Liberal brand. So I want him to stay
This. In spades. I want the egotistical little prick to be Kim Campbell’d.
He’s going to announce that he sold Baffin Island to Tump. Proceeds to go to the Trudeau Foundation.
The Libersls under Trudeau tried to jail Norman. Nothing is beneath them at this point. What ugly scandal will they suggest to harm the opposition Consevatives? And will the ugly Legacy Media cooperate yet again?
PM Trudeau expected to announce his stepping down on Monday

From the Glob& Flail:
“A separate Liberal Party source said a leadership race would take at least three months, although the party constitution requests at least four months”
https://archive.is/ANXwH#selection-2895.0-2895.150
Guess the government is going to have to prorogue, and then dip into their slush funds to keep it running after March 31st.
Fun fact. No spending limits until the writ drops. If the Libs want a three month leadership race, that’s three months of unlimited beat down.
Why couldn’t he be a little more like his father.
Go for a long walk in the snow… but don’t come back.
That’d be more like his late brother. That’d work, too

As someone who lives on the other side of tall mountains, I opposed naming one of our mountains after any Trudeau.
A variety of tomatoes or any vegetable that spoils before it matures would have been more apt.
https://www.upi.com/Archives/1982/08/09/Prime-Minister-Pierre-Trudeau-faced-demonstrators-heaving-tomatoes-and/2710397713600/
Good riddance you rat bastard.
There goes Fords early call for an Ontario election
Excellent! One good turn begets another. Ford doesn’t deserve to have it his way.
Maybe Ford will run for fed Liberal leader. He can hold hands with Freeland and gaze into her eyes.
Who lets off smellier farts?
Simple and succinct. I could write a thousand words heaping my scorn and loathing at the narcissist who’s done more damage to this country than any other federal “leader” but you summarize it perfectly, ABT.
Well done.
Slightly o/t, but in other election news you can text Alpacatoes Ofwillie at this number (310 861 2977) and you get a message from Kamala inviting comments.
One could urge her to do the right thing and certify the Donald.
The crisis is so great, Trudeau will be told to request immediate dissolution of Parliament. They believe this will buy them a little time to decide how best to deal with President Trump.
“What he’s wrestling with is the notion that he will NOT be the greatest and most successful Liberal PM since Wilfrid Laurier a century ago.”
Ironically , if his thoughts dance upon Modern Liberalism he along with many others drove the nail home pretty easily and successfully.
He might be disliked but for what reasons thin wallets, or little girls wanting to be boys etc?
I find it unsettling that older Conservatives don’t harbor the notion that building back better in a real sense starts on the social level starting at home with the family and if that’s not the case.
The progressives have already won.
Sad to think so many never seen how hard of a battle this ever was, and is even harder now.
Maybe common sense doesn’t disappear through the ages, but maybe it can? The people just have to get weak in the head enough, and just let their humanity slip away, while they are fondling their wooden coins?
Frankly I could give two shts what happens to that commie piece of sht.
Modern Liberalism has had their big steaming dump, and someone has to try and get it down the drain.
And that’s left to be seen.
We can speculate on his departure date whether it’s within the hour or on the night of an election loss, but regardless of the when it’s now inevitable there will be a contentious leadership race on a tight timeline in an election year.
Seems we just witnessed a similar occurrence last year with the DNC, how did that work out again?
I think Freeland has been setting herself up as his successor.
But a) she doesn’t have Great Hair®, and 2) she’s not ‘dreamy’. I doubt she will get many men to vote for the ‘Hot Chick’ no matter how tight her dresses are.
