  6. I’m going out on a limb, but I think he is going to call an election. I can’t understand why none of the so-called pundits have put this forward as an option. Nearly everyone agrees the man is delusional, so why should he not think he can pull a rabbit out of the hat one more time? After all, he’s gotten away with everything else. To call an election, when no one is expecting him to do so, would prove, in his own mind, just how smart and daring he is. He is going to head everyone off at the pass: no committee meeting on Tuesday to declare non-confidence, no regional or full caucuses on Monday and Wednesday (why would he listen to those nobodies?), no resignation with all the political obituaries declaring him to be a failure and the most reviled prime minister in history, no humiliating leadership campaign which would force him to watch Chrystia likely take his place while all the others put as much distance between them and him as they can. He really thinks he can beat Poilievre, and that he’s the only one who can. He will force his caucus to fall in line and most of them will even if privately they think it’s a lost cause. Besides the named individuals who have come forward, most of the rest haven’t actually put their names out there. They will keep applauding like Stalin’s minions did. He will force them to declare it their patriotic duty to save Canada from the Conservatives. I think he has spent the last three weeks on the ski hills cooking up a campaign strategy with Katie involving a Hail Mary pass (like Universal Basic Income) coupled with a heavy dose of anti-Americanism. He really thinks he can do this. He wants to bask in the glory of the G7, become the most electorally successful PM since Laurier, and remain in office longer than Stephen Harper. Those are his goals, the country be damned. Of course he’s doomed, and everyone outside his bubble knows it, but this is the level of delusion we are talking about. If none of this happens, I will be the first to say that I was completely wrong, but knowing everything we know about him, doesn’t this make sense?

      1. I agree with you on this. I suspect proroguing is what’s on the cards. This supposedly will provide enough time for the Liberals to select a new leader. (I can’t imagine who would want it, given how thoroughly Justin has sh*t the bed.) He’s not going to run another election; he’s far too much a narcissist to tolerate the thought of losing. What he’s wrestling with is the notion that he will NOT be the greatest and most successful Liberal PM since Wilfrid Laurier a century ago.

        So this likely is his version of Daddy’s ‘walk in the snow’.

    Is there an “over/under” for prorogue/resign?
    I see dmorris already has a penny on this, I keep a jar of those to use as washers/spacers when installing some plumbing items as they’re particularly corrosion resistant, most of the penny’s corrosion has been gov’t inflicted.

  11. I have to admit, as a stupid American, I wasn’t overly informed on Prorogation. However, after doing due diligence, it would seem to me that there are few positive attributes associated with that process. Or, maybe there are positive attributes, but for the most part it seems to be used divisively by those in power. Halting investigations, countering voting blocs, punting down field with the hopes of a change in public opinion over time…

    Which leads me to a simple question for you Canucks…. My understanding is that Trudeau would request the prorogue….but your Governor General would have to approve it. So, my question:

    Is the current Governor General in Trudeau’s back pocket…or is there a chance it would be declined? I noticed that Harper tried once and was declined after a little grandstanding (wait period) by the Governor General.

    1. It basically is an end to the parliament to have the government come back later with a new agenda with a throne speech (a confidence measure) to reboot.
      However all legislative bills not yet given royal assent into law are DOA, and they have to reintroduce the legislation if they can get past the first confidence vote on the throne speech.

        Orson, any Governor General is bound to accept the recommendation of a Prime Minister. There is zero chance of a request to prorogue being declined by the GG. This was established as an unbreakable principle in the King-Byng Affair of 1925. No GG will ever refuse any legal request by any PM, ever.

    He will announce that he has advised the party to hold a leadership convention in the fall to choose his successor.
    Fall like in October when the next election will be called so if the government falls before that he’s still the leader and will be on the ballot.
    Telford will be getting the media minions to push the narrative that it would be unfair for the opposition to trigger an election until the liberals can select their next leader.

      Jordan Peterson discussed that with Pollievre in a recent (and excellent) podcast. PP’s take was basically, “Nuts to that: the libs have had ample time over the last year to choose a new leader with every castreau screw-up, and that they were fine with all the scandals doesn’t take away the right for the country to go to the polls and vote their displeasure and send the libs packing”. I paraphrase but it’s sound: to hell with giving the libscum more time to set their house in order, they don’t deserve one more minute in power after the permanent damage they’ve done to this country.

      Their cabinet can’t go to hell quick enough to suit me.

Some say he wants to hang on until Kananaskis in June (G7) but my optimistic side says that his Christmas ski extravaganza sung to the tune of “Get the F*ck out of BC” may have been this decade’s version of the nation-destroying Trudeau dynasty as his “walk in the snow” moment.

    1. Unlikely, John. June is far too long for a government to operate on warrants with no House of Commons whatsoever. Remember, the Government is still in contempt of the House over its refusal of the demand by the House to turn over documents.

  16. Here’s my prediction: Trudeau has agreed to to step down and hand over the reins to a particular Liberal MP or advisor who has acceded in advance to a particular list of NDP policy demands. In exchange, Singh will put forward the promised non-confidence motion but will ensure that a sufficient number of NDP MPs either vote “nae” or sit out the vote so that the Liberals can hang on until next October.

    Ironically , if his thoughts dance upon Modern Liberalism he along with many others drove the nail home pretty easily and successfully.
    He might be disliked but for what reasons thin wallets, or little girls wanting to be boys etc?
    I find it unsettling that older Conservatives don’t harbor the notion that building back better in a real sense starts on the social level starting at home with the family and if that’s not the case.
    The progressives have already won.
    Sad to think so many never seen how hard of a battle this ever was, and is even harder now.
    Maybe common sense doesn’t disappear through the ages, but maybe it can? The people just have to get weak in the head enough, and just let their humanity slip away, while they are fondling their wooden coins?

    Seems we just witnessed a similar occurrence last year with the DNC, how did that work out again?

      But a) she doesn’t have Great Hair®, and 2) she’s not ‘dreamy’. I doubt she will get many men to vote for the ‘Hot Chick’ no matter how tight her dresses are.
