   1. The most compassionate conquerors the primitive Indians ever saw were white. Other Indian tribes killed them on sight and in some cases had them for dinner. Part of the reason the NWMP came west was to keep Indians from killing each other. At the Battle of Belly River in present day Lethbridge in 1871 the Blackfoot Confederacy killed 200-400 Cree with a loss of 40 of their own. That’s more dead Indians in one battle than the white conquerors of western Canada did in 300 years.
