National Post- Kevin O’Leary is on a mission to revive Canada and he’s starting in Alberta
Mr. Wonderful — as he likes to call himself — gets a lot of air-time, cast as the heartless a–hole on “Shark Tank.” But it’s Kevin O’Leary, the clear-eyed dealmaker who I need to meet, to explain why he’s backing a $70-billion AI data centre industrial park near Grande Prairie in northwest Alberta.
This might be a big deal…someday. Right now it’s vaporware. No investors, just a website.
““I know Trump,” Kevin continues, “he’s a rational guy. He’s just starting to negotiate for NAFTA 3.0, that’s what he’s doing”
Pure delusion. He doesn’t know Trump. He knows the Trump that exists only in his head as some platonic ideal.
It may be just an idea, but so was SpaceX.
In fact Neil deGrasse Tyson, said SpaceX really wasn’t doing anything NASA couldn’t do better.
Look up SpaceX launches Vs rest of world. Go down to section on orbital launch statistics in link below.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is a guy who pretends to be a scientist with expertise in every field.
“Neil deGrasse Tyson is a guy who pretends to be a scientist with expertise in every field.”
Just another guy who hasn’t earned the right to be anywhere near as arrogant as he is. In softball interviews he is okay, but he falls apart when seriously challenged.
Weirder things have happened, look at the Grid Scale battery in Rycroft, of all places!
Would it hasten the build out of grid infrastructure and generational capacity, and thus, ensure stability?
So what’s he planning on powering it with. Wretched Rachel’s many windmills? Sunny Ways solar panels?
Read the article. It gives an answer.
Have you ever been involved in trying to get the go ahead on any project like a power plant? It is horrendous. Years are spent and millions and billions of dollars are spent to protect the common housefly from the environmental impact such things will produce.
“Have I ever been involved…”
Yes.
It’s not as difficult, or as time consuming, as you think if you know what you are doing.
He’s not dealing with drunk Rachel. He is dealing with smart Danielle. Don’t you know that, Joe the “Albertan?”
And yeah, read the article, which explains how they will power it as well as why they have a permit and related requirements, despite Trudeau and his anti Alberta minions.
That’s right; gas now and nuclear power a decade from now. This is why Alberta is in a partnership with Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick to build new nuclear power plants. These will be the first in Canada since Darlington was completed in 1992.
If the Idiot Intellectual at the top says its fantasy, then its not.
The aforementioned IYI (intellectual yet idiot) is one of those ‘scientists’ who believes that the proper way to do anything is:
– pay a bunch of scientists to research and study it for 10-20 years
– then hire consultants (McKinsey?) to prepare a detailed feasibility study
– then have governments finance it
– then the project goes broke.
No social licence
No business case
No nada
Show me the money!
Eetz for Bananada
Someone said McKinsey in this thread?
What could possibly go wrong?

Sure, they’ll build gas & nuc powered AI data centres, while the balance of the province is stuck w/ intermittent bird & bat choppers & solar panels. Danielle Smith, pull your head out of your backside & breathe the air. It may clarify your thinking.
Well it’s on the table, actually talked about by ordinary Albertan’s & I see by other’s. It may be a step in the right direction, seeing how TruDope is losing his power now.
“the Trudeau peso” That’s the quote everyone should read coming up to the election.
7 MAD = $1Cdn
Maybe the power will come from wind and solar to make that AI function.
Nice positive comments. Let’s not even try and do something – it won’t work anyway. How Canadian.
Back in the day when oil and gas boomed in Alberta we had risk takers who ‘made it happen’. A lot of them were Americans. Hell 10% of Calgary were Yanks. They built downtown petroleum towers. You could catch a direct flight to Houston every day of the week.
Along came the laurentian elite and their mouthpiece trudeau. They were threatened by Alberta’s new found wealth and set about to destroy it. If there’s nothing in it for quebek then it must be destroyed was their mantra. They damn near succeeded.
Today things are different the world has changed. Attitudes have shifted. The stars are aligning. PP, Smith, Trump etc are not whining defeated elites constantly seeking solutions from government. They have vision and could ‘make it happen’. It’s worth the shot, it may be our last shot.
Nat Post jornolithp downplays Danielle Smith’s efforts on this project which will go ahead. She is a talented, informed, treasure who openly despises communism, and all the pinkos know it; their time is running out and they’re getting desperate. She’s getting so much done under the radar because the media completely ignore her. Just watch.
