  1. Ah, Yes. I remember as if it were yesterday. How I was denied visiting relatives on the other side of the Mercier bridge for what seemed to be months on end because of that blockade. People living in Chateauguay and points beyond couldn’t commute to work in Montreal, unless they took a 40 Km detour to cross the neighboring Champlain bridge (when I say “neighboring,” I’m not saying that you can actually see one bridge from the other. Not that kind of neighboring).

    Back then, society saw the blockade in a different light. Quebecers were not too fond of the blockades, especially when the longhouses killed a Surete du Quebec police officer, which prompted the government at the time to send in the army. Betcha you didn’t read that in the linked article, no-siree-bob, you didn’t.
    Yes, for once, Quebecers got it right. They saw the blockades for what it was… and act of terrorism.
    And now, emboldened by “truth and reconciliation” from our effeminate and weak-kneed pm, these people are demanding yet another apology. They’ll likely get it, along with another countless billions of dollars of our hard-earned tax money for “compensation.”

    I think you can guess where I stand on this issue.

    2. I am 72 and am so tired of apologizing for something which I had nothing to do with (paternal grandparents immigrated to Canada before World War 1 and the maternal grandparents immigrated in 1924 from Ireland – life was not so great in that country).
      On another note, I so enjoy coming to this site and as a quiet Christian I wish all a very Merry Christmas and a very good new year for 2026!
